Eight vie for 2019 Miss Fairview crown FAIRVIEW—Eight young, talented women will compete during the 2019 Miss Fairview Scholarship Pageant to be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 9, at the Peterson Dance Hall, Fairview. The chosen theme for this year is, “Superstar”. The winner will replace the current reigning Miss Fairview Malia Ah Kuoi, who has done a wonderful job representing the city of Fairview for the past year. The 2019 contestants are: Emily Kerksiek Emily Kerksiek is the daughter of Amber & Scott Kerksiek. She will perform a violin solo for her talent. Julia Clista Galecki Julia Clista Galecki is the daughter of Cindy & Greg Galecki. She will perform a piano solo for her talent. Daylight saving time begins

GUNNISON—A student at Gunnison Valley High School has pleaded guilty to eight counts of forcible sexual abuse. The 16-yearold football player was accused of abusing 12 other students and was charged in the fall of 2017. As part of a plea deal, the student was ordered to perform 288 hours of community service, complete therapy and move to another town. He was also ordered to write an apology letter and pay for any associated fees.

MT. PLEASANT — Sanpete Valley Hospital, in an on-going effort to support the students in our communities, is proud to announce the annual Sanpete Valley Hospital Scholarship program. This program will donate three) $1,000 scholarship awards to high school seniors in Sanpete County. Applicants must currently be a high school senior at a Sanpete County High School or participating in an accredited HS curriculum and reside in Sanpete County. Applicants must also hold a current GPA of 3.6 or higher, plan to pursue a career in healthcare and be actively involved in community service. MT. PLEASANT — Daylight Saving Time will take effect at 2 a.m., Sunday, March 10. It is suggested to set clocks one hour ahead before retiring on Saturday. It is also a good idea to change batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Daylight Saving Time is implemented so people may enjoy longer summer nights and save energy. Time will remain until Sunday, Nov. 3.

White Ribbon Week emphasizes online safety SPRING CITY — Students at Spring City Elementary recently observed White Ribbon Week, which reminds students that online personal safety is important and there are steps each individual can take to receive that protection. During the week the students were taught online safety behavior through discussions and fun activities. The point was made that each

student can be a superhero where media choices are concerned. Students learned that they don’t need to be tech savvy, because online safety is less about computer skills and more about decision making skills. Pleasant Aquatic Center include the following: Swimming lessons (public and private), junior lifeguard class, Scout merit badge classes, swim team, water aerobics and a swim camp. Water aerobics Water aerobics is scheduled to take place all year. Participants can sign up for morning or evening classes, but the evening sessions are only held seasonally. Morning classes are scheduled to take place all year each Monday-Friday, from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 8:309:30 a.m. Seasonal evening classes are scheduled on Tuesdays, Feb. 5-Nov. 20, from 6-7 p.m. Swimming lessons Public lessons are scheduled this spring and summer. Spring lessons will be held March 5, 7, 12, 14, 19 and 21, from 3-3:45 p.m., and April 9, 11, 16, 18, 23 and 25, from 5-5:45 p.m. All

sessions offer levels Pre 1-6 and Parent-n-Child. Summer lessons are planned to take place June 3-13, 17-27, July 8-18 and July 29-Aug. 8. Expected times are 9:30 a.m., 10:20 a.m. and 11:10 a.m. Private lessons are available yearround. Junior lifeguard Junior lifeguard classes for ages 1114 will take place May 6, 8, 13 and 15, from 4-6 p.m. Participants will be trained in first aid and basic rescue skills. Each junior guard is expected to volunteer to work for two-hour shifts that will be assigned around their schedule. For each shift worked, free swim time is earned.
