MT. PLEASANT — For nearly a year now, the Sterling Scholars that are representing North Sanpete High School (NSHS) have been preparing to showcase their abilities in the Central Region Deseret News Sterling Scholar competition. The 46th Annual Awards program will be held at 7 p.m., March 15, in the auditorium of Richfield High School, 495 West Center Street, doors open at 5 p.m. Prior to the program, during the morning and afternoon, the students will speak to judges and demonstrate their talents in the hopes of being chosen as either a category winner or runner-up and receive a scholarship to a school of their choosing. Under the tutelage of Ben Cox and Jori Turpin, students have been putting together their portfolios and polishing up interview and audition skills. Forest service offers cabin rentals near Gooseberry Closed EPHRAIM — Anyone who would like to spend a weekend on the forest, but doesn’t look forward to tent camping or want to haul the trailer all the way to the top of the mountain, just for a night or two. The forest service has good news. Two additional rental cabins on the Manti-La Sal National Forest are now available to reserve for dates beginning this summer. The Mammoth and Lake Cabins are located off SR264 near Gooseberry Reservoir, just off Skyline Drive. Constructed in the 1930s by the Civil Conservation Corp (CCC), the two cabins served as a forest service administrative site for many decades. Each of the refurbished cabins can accommodate up to four people and are available for rental in 2018 from June 16 to Sept. 30. The cabins can be reserved either individually or together. Both cabins have drinking water with a flush toilet and shower in the bathrooms; kitchens are equipped with sinks, stove, and simple cookware (pots/pans, silverware, utensils). A refrigeration unit is not available in either cabin so visitors should plan accordingly. Basic cleaning supplies are also provided along with toilet paper. Each cabin has two sets of bunk beds with mattresses. The Mammoth Cabin has a wood burning stove as an additional source of heat. Firewood will be provided. Between the two rental cabins sits a garage that is still being used by
