MP city receives UAMPS award SALT LAKE CITY—Mt. Pleasant City Power Department was recently honored with a System Improvement Award during the annual meeting of Utah Associaterd Power Systems (UAMPS) in Salt Lake City. The System Improvement Award recognizes UAMPS member utilities for undertaking system upgrades, capital improvements and preventive maintenance measures to modernize facilities, improve system reliability, reduce losses, reduce outage times or improve power quality. Mayor Dan Anderson and Power Superintendent Shane Ward accepted the award recognizing Mt. Pleasant City’s system improvement accomplishments. Over the last year, Mt. ect has been a three-year deployment of a new Landis Gyr powerline carrier metering system known as the PLX (Powerline Express). In the last year, Mt. Pleasant Power accomplished its goal of installing over 2200 meters using the new system. The new metering system provides many benefits, such as: 15 minute read intervals, outage detection, and service disconnect and load limiting capabilities. By installing the new system, the power department has prevented the loss of thousands of dollars in revenue and has cut the delinquent billing accounts in half. The department has also reduced the time required during delinquent shutoff from two days down to one hour, a major savings of staff time. Another goal achieved during the last year under Triple “I”, is construction of a one-mile stretch of 46KV transmission line feeding from the new switch yard to the new ConToy Substation with the assistance of Manti, Ephraim, Fairview and Spring City. Mt. Pleasant City Power will continue to provide safe, clean and reliable power to Mt. Pleasant citizens under the Triple “I” project. Presentations and speeches at the UAMPS meeting focused on accomplishments, challenges facing public power, including new technologies and regulatory issues; and continued investigation of a small modular nuclear reactor energy project.
