Sanpete Pantry’s new fundraiser ‘3 AND ME’ The Sanpete Food Pantry is serving more people than ever. Families with children are particularly in need, and the Sanpete Pantry has started a new campaign to raise funds to feed more kids. This grassroots campaign is an effort to rally the people of our county to donate to the new “3 And Me” initiative. The campaign is a challenge of sorts; you rally 3 people to donate with you and your donation is matched with donations from these 3 friends, colleagues, or neighbors, with everyone giving the donation 4
times a year. That is a donation once a season, or once every 3 months from each person. Marty McCain, director of fundraising at the Sanpete Pantry eagerly points out how these donations can add up quickly. With thousands of residents in Sanpete County who may be willing to share what they can spare the food pantry can reach its goal to feed hungry children for the sustainable future. An estimated one in five children in the county are food insecure. The food pantry distributes “Kid Packs” to
hundreds of children from the age of 4 through High School. The children receive breakfast and lunch and snacks for Saturday and Sunday with distribution being handled by the school they attend. Currently the Sanpete Pantry is providing 400 Kid Packs a week, at a cost to them of $8 per pack. Newly elected Utah Gov. Spencer Cox from Fairview, along with Lt. Gov. Diedre Henderson and their families, spent Saturday, January first in St. George volunteering CONTRIBUTED IMAGE Please see PANTRY, Page A2

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson took the oath of office on Monday as they were sworn into state office on the 125th anniversary of Utah’s statehood. Cox, formerly lieutenant governor, became Utah’s 18th governor, while Henderson, a former state senator from Spanish Fork, is the state’s second female lieutenant governor. Cox replaces Gov. Gary Herbert, who served as Utah’s governor beginning in 2009. The outdoor inauguration ceremony took place at the Tuacahn Center for the Arts in Washington County, marking Utah’s first inauguration ceremony not held in Salt Lake City. smarter than we ever could have imagined, as scientists, chemists and medical professionals developed and mastered new technologies to create multiple life-saving vaccines in record time.
“And yet,” the governor continued, “at a time when we have more knowledge at our fingertips than any generation in history, we have somehow become more susceptible to disinformation, conspiracy theories and lies, as too often we all struggle to find accurate sources of truth and unbiased information.” Cox also praised government officials and business leaders for finding “ways to adapt and innovate through impossible circumstances to restore critical supply chains and keep businesses open, and friends and families safe and employed.” “And yet, we have also seen real weaknesses as too many people have lost their lives and
Development adds tech community feel to rural Utah setting EPHRAIM — A unique, multi-purpose hub is coming to central Utah. Ephraim Crossing, developed by Camino Verde Group, is a mixeduse campus featuring business, retail and residential living in the historic city of Ephraim. The project, located on 90-acres an hour south of Provo, will bring a new technology hub to the home of Snow College and the Ephraim Campus of Utah State University. “Ephraim Crossing is perfect for tech companies looking for a new location in Utah,” said Mike Ballard, partner at Camino Verde Group. “It will have world-class amenities in a small-town environment that has been shown to attract top tier tech employees. They will enjoy an environment that balances innovation and work with recreation and relaxation.” A recent study by the University of Utah Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute showed that tech employment grew in the state at an average annual rate of 4.9 percent from 2008 to 2018. Currently, more than 310,000 Utah jobs are based in the tech industry. In Ephraim, Snow College recently added a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering program to their curriculum, allowing for local internships and development of future employees. The first building planned for the business sector at Ephraim Crossing is a two-story, 32,000 square foot tech office and co-working facility. Several incentives are also available for businesses looking to relocate or create a remote office including tax credits, financing, Rural Economic Development Incentives and others.
