What background knowledge do I need to study Music 1? Music mandatory course (or equivalent).
Why study Music 1? The curriculum structure of Music 1 is adaptable enough to meet the needs and interests of students with varying degrees of prior formal and informal learning in music. It accommodates the widely differing needs and abilities of students, ranging from the broadly based, to the desire to specialise, by allowing flexibility in the topic choice and areas of study. Students may enter the course from the Mandatory course as well as from the Additional Study course. Music aims to provide students with learning experiences that will enrich their physical, aesthetic, emotional, intellectual and social development.

Course description: In the Year 11 and HSC courses, students will study: the concepts of music through learning experiences in performance, composition, musicology, and aural within the context of a range of styles, periods and genres.
