What background knowledge do I need to study Dance? Students need no background knowledge, only an interest in performing arts.
Why study Dance? Students learn about dance as an artform through performing dance, composing dance and appreciating dance. Students are able to study dance as a unique artform in which the body is the instrument for non-verbal communication and expression. Dance is an exciting medium for learning that fosters students’ intellectual, social and moral development. The artform of dance has a theoretical base that challenges the mind and the emotions, and its study contributes to the students’ artistic, aesthetic and cultural education.
Course description: Students study three inter-related components: Performance, Composition and Appreciation of Dance. Students engage with these components through experience and theoretical and practical knowledge.

In the Year 11 course, students study dance as an artform with core studies in the inter-related components of Performance, Composition and Appreciation.
