So much to do, so little time!

This is an extra special term for us, with Boarders’ Week set to thrill in Week 3. We will be out and about and ready to celebrate our Boarding heritage and all those who make our lives in Boarding brighter. Either side of this, we will embrace and enjoy the program of fun and fabulous activities that have been put together especially for you. So get excited, ready to participate and make the most out of the opportunities on offer!

Week 1

FRIDAY 2 MAY

WHAT Evacuation Drill and Safety Briefing

You know the drill! Meet in the Boarding House promptly at 3.25pm for instructions, we will be having a briefing In the Science Lecture Theatre at 3.30pm followed by a 4.00pm evacuation. We will talk about some of the risks involved with Boarding and how you can ensure your personal safety, as well as what support is available to each of you and how to best access it. This activity takes priority over any trainings/lessons on this particular Friday afternoon.

WHAT Year 7 to 9 Social

Back by popular demand, join us and some of our Boarding neighbours for a night of fun, dancing and celebration of all things Boarding. With a theme of ‘What in the World are you Wearing?’, get ready for a burst of quirky outfits, fun and giggles. There will be prizes for the best-dressed group and plenty of opportunities to connect with friends and make some new ones.

WHAT Year 10 to 12 Social at Ravenswood

Our good friends down the road have graciously invited us to their social for Years 10 to 12. So while the Year 7 to 9 Boarders enjoy their social at Pymble, the older girls get this wonderful opportunity as well. The theme this year is ‘2000’s Icons’. We can have so much fun with this theme and we can’t wait to see the awesome outfits and creative ideas that everyone comes up with.

SATURDAY 3 MAY

WHAT Community Weekend

Community Days are special times in our Boarding calendar where all Boarders are required to be in attendance. For this special occasion, you need to be back at Boarding by 5.00pm on Saturday. You will then have time to prepare for a sumptuous dinner at 6.00pm followed by an evening of fun and dancing. Be ready to strut your stuff and win points for your house in the hotly contested Angus Cup Disco Divas competition.

WHAT Community Weekend

Today, we have a special treat: chapel with the congregation from Pymble and Gordon Uniting Church joining us for a special service followed by a delicious brunch. Special thanks to our Boarding volunteers for showing our extended community around the College. After brunch, Boarders will have their own time, with afternoon activities being saved for our social on Sunday 1 June that all Boarders will be expected to attend.

WHAT Boarders Get Baking – it’s back!

Boarders Get Baking is back for Term 2. We can’t wait to get back into the kitchens with Mrs Wiedemann on Fridays in Term 2. This week we will be making the famous BGB Rocky Road. Some for us and some for Mrs B to put away for the Boarding expos this term.

WHAT Year 12 Pizza Night in Lang

Brace yourselves for a term filled to the brim with excitement and challenges as our Year 12 students gear up for a whirlwind of activities and responsibilities. But before the hustle and bustle consumes us entirely, we’re carving out a special moment for our senior Boarders. It’s an invaluable opportunity for our eldest Boarders to unite, forge stronger connections, and create lasting memories before the demands of the term escalate. So, let’s seize this moment to bond, share stories, and fortify the bonds that make our community so special. Together, let’s kick off this term with a sense of unity and purpose that will carry us through the challenges ahead!

WHAT Big Sister, Little Sister Movie Night

An exciting opportunity awaits our ‘sisters’ to strengthen their bonds and create lasting memories. The Big Sisters have organised a fun-filled evening, complete with games, movies, and perhaps some indulgent chocolates. It’s the perfect chance to connect, laugh, and build friendships that will stand the test of time. Let’s join together in celebrating the essence of sisterhood and the joy of companionship!

WHAT House Decorating Competition

Boarders’ Week is next week, and it is time to paint the town pink. By that, we mean it’s time to decorate the houses. Each house has a budget, and this is the weekend to work with house staff to ensure the house is looking good. The best house wins a pizza night.

SUNDAY 11 MAY

WHAT Mother’s Day Trip to Taronga Zoo

Come along to check out all the animals and views at Taronga Zoo, one of the most spectacular zoos in the world. The seal show is always a favourite, plus make sure you also check out the brand-new amphibian and reptile experience. There’s also lots of baby animals to go and visit including the pygmy hippo and chimp babies. Stroll amongst kangaroos, come paw to paw with the tigers and walk within the tree canopy to see the koalas.

This is an opportunity to invite your day girl friends for a special barbecue lunch and an afternoon of fun. Welcome the girls in from midday and explore the campus together on bikes or on foot. How about a spot of tennis, or perhaps some games on the lawn in the evening light?

SUNDAY 18 MAY

WHAT Annie the Musical

An exciting opportunity to see Annie the Musical at the Capitol Theatre in Haymarket. Annie is an old musical favourite with songs such as It’s the Hard-Knock Life and Tomorrow. The musical show runs for two-and-a-half hours with a 20-minute interval. Seats are limited so don’t miss out and look out for the email to secure your ticket.

WHAT Vivid Sydney

Vivid is back, and we are so excited to take our Boarders to experience all it has to offer. Vivid Sydney is an annual celebration of creativity, innovation and technology which transforms Sydney. In 2025, for its 15th year, Vivid Sydney will fuse art, innovation and technology in collaboration with some of the most boundary-pushing artists, thinkers, musicians and culinary experts of our time, united by this year’s theme of ‘Dream’.

SUNDAY 25 MAY

WHAT Balmoral Burn

Last term we raised money for the Balmoral Swim for Cancer as part of the Pymble Gives Back initiative. This term we are taking on the Balmoral Burn. Known as Sydney’s steepest hill run, this annual community fun run has raised over $35 million for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation. Every year, participants take to the ‘Burn’ to conquer Awaba Street’s 420-metre incline – one of the steepest streets in Sydney. Let’s come together to raise money and support the community!

WHAT First Nations Round of Sport

The Indigenous Round of Sport is a change to celebrate the role of sport in forging relationships, bridging divides and promoting inclusion. Situated in Reconciliation week, it also recognises the long-standing legacy of First Nations excellence in sport and the role sport plays in promoting social justice by bringing people together and raising awareness of important issues.

Year 7 and Year 10 Boarders enjoy an evening of games, movies and pampering in Marden House. It is a great time to mix year groups and spend time together doing face masks, painting nails, creating hair styles all whilst interacting in games or watching a movie.

WEDNESDAY 4 JUNE

WHAT Jersey Day

This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the passing of three beautiful girls, and we will be remembering them and the legacy that they have left us. We remember the three Boarders who tragically passed away on the June Long Weekend in 1993. Alanda Clark, Jane Gay and Prudence Papworth were travelling home for the long weekend when the plane they were in crashed on a hill just outside Young, killing all on board. We invite all students and staff to commemorate these special girls by wearing a jersey and bringing a gold coin donation. All funds raised will go towards The Alanda Clark, Jane Gay and Prudence Papworth Scholarship.

WHAT Travel Day for June Long Weekend – King’s Birthday

It’s home time! Enjoy being snuggled up in your own bed over the long weekend - we will be ready and waiting for you from 5.00pm on Monday 9 June. Have you thought about inviting a day girl or another Boarder to join you for the weekend? This year we are hoping that our rural families will look to host some other Boarders and day girls for the weekend. It’s always great to see our Boarders getting the opportunity to share their homes and regions with their friends.

Whether it’s a night out at a favourite restaurant, a trip to a local market or an inner-city expedition, get your ideas down on paper, suggest a date and we will do our best to make it happen.

We would love you to invite a friend from the Day School to stay over on a Friday or Saturday night. Propose some dates to your Head of House and make it happen!

BOARDERS GET BAKING

All of you seem to love baking and we know you LOVE yummy food. Take the opportunity to work with Mrs Wiedemann in our specialist Food Technology room and bake until your heart is content and your tummy is full. Each week she comes with interesting new recipes, from Mars Bar slice and brownies to Wallget’s famous Weet-Bix slice. Boarders Get Baking is the place to be on Friday afternoons.

We have brand new bikes - sign them out and take them for a spin around campus. Ask House staff to show you the various routes and away you go!
