Looking Back…

A busy, productive, successful year :

1) As always, we are team players -- Continuing to act as substitutes for teachers & departments, handling multiple classes per period throughout the days/weeks, as well as regular library research and instruction.

2) Now to analyze some of the numbers:

A) Total circulation numbers were down slightly, although Freshman & Sophomore English classes (and their teachers!) greatly attributed to the high numbers for those grades.

B) Database usage remained consistent, depending on the particular resource and assignment/project.

For example, numbers increased for National History Day kickoff research and several major English research assignments, including specifically the Jr. English research paper.

C) Ebook & audiobook usage remained the same. More LibGuides were created with a great increase in views and usage, especially with remote access.

3) Another fabulous National Library Week of presenters and performances! Lots of positive feedback, encouragement, participation, & assistance from the entire MSJ community. Thank you!

4) Chess Tournaments, as well as informal pickup games, (checkers too!) hosted in the library continue to be very popular.

*5) Physical Inventory - in Progress. To be completed by June 2024.

Looking Ahead:

General Library Goals for 2024-2025

Seemingly inconsistent across campus, the Library will continue to enforce school-widerules (no phones, no food/drink, etc.) while fostering an atmosphere of quiet individual study as well as small group collaboration.

Will continue to work with Mrs. Bruce & Eng. Dept to promote and encourage use of The Writing Center located in the Library.

Will continue to advocate for upgrades to the 23 year old library space! EXTREME wear & tear of furniture. All day, everyday use of teenage boys require immediate repair/replacement.

● Soft seating needs to be steam-cleaned (non-removable cushions). Very dingy & dirty!

● Carpet was spot -steam-cleaned last summer by librarian and Mr. Tim Johnson. Request / Plan for same this summer.

● Over two-thirdsof our hard wooden chairs are loose, wobbly and/or broken. Approx. 20 new chairs are on order to be delivered soon (June). Paid for with Library Budget funds instead of as “Capital Expense”.
