A past president of the International Food Wine and Travel Writers Association (SW), Sybil travels the globe on the “Eats Beat” in search of her next great meal.
LeeAnne Locken, born in Texas, she moved to Chicago to pursue modeling. Later she lived in Los Angeles where she developed her passion for acting. She currently resides in Dallas where she continues to host television programs, make films and serve on the board of Women in Film - Dallas. LeeAnne recently competed on the reality TV show "She's Got The Look" a modeling competition for women over 35 and made it to the top 3! Brandy Nunes, a Dallas native, spent six years in Southern California "discovering herself" before returning to the "Big D." She holds a Journalism degree from Long Beach State and is passionate about music, concerts, food, wine, and charity work. As an openminded, free-spirit she loves discussing her passions, as well as sexuality, romance and relationships. Andrea Reich, writer, photographer and artist, came to Dallas by way of Los Angeles. She holds two degrees from Pepperdine University in Art and Advertising and is the great-grand niece of Oscar winner and silent film actress Mary Pickford.

Rolando Diaz art — an expression of life While discovering life, we find ourselves looking for the things which we can relate to. It is this thought that becomes the basis for the work of Rolando Diaz, a native CubanAmerican artist. Born in Havana, Cuba, to a Cuban immigrant businessman who fled an oppressive Communist regime, Diaz learned early that there are those who will go through life with little or nothing they can call their own. This thought has touched the heartstrings of the artist, who has traveled
through cities in the U.S. and other countries, including Cap Haitian, Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world, recalling and painting those images, and raising funds through his art for the poor. Diaz believes that, "art is an expression of life." Everything we see, feel, touch, smell and hear‌in one way or another becomes part of the images expressed on the canvas. Much of the subject matter for his work comes from influences from God, his extensive travels and personal experiences. 30 pure
Diaz' work can be found in the hands of private collectors and clients including Liza Minelli, Rob Thomas (lead singer for Matchbox 20), Reggie Williams (Vice President of Disney World Attractions) and many others.
He has exhibited in museums, galleries and private residences. He has also been able to raise extensive money for special non-profit organizations. Diaz' will create an original oil on canvas for this special event that will each be unique. By hearing the music played on piano, his emotions will execute a work of art starting from a complete white canvas to completion within one hour and fifteen minutes. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by enjoying the British – not the Irish. One of the UK’s most popular bands Muse is playing at the Ft. Worth Convention Center with Los Angeles’ own Silversun Pickups on March 17th. Having both of these bands tour together will be one of the best shows of 2010. This is a show not to be missed!!! Muse just released their fifth album titled The Resistance. It debuted in September and has been a massive hit. Peaking on the Billboard Charts at No.3, the band has seen continued success with the album - following up the sensational Black Holes and
Revelations. With the same type of synth-pop rock that put them on the charts, The Resistance’s second single “The Uprising” has been at the top of the Billboard Alternative Songs Charts - sitting at No. 1 for over 20 weeks! The songs empowering lyrics and revoltinspired riffs have an innovative and inspirational quality for those looking for the “Damn the man” anthem. Overall, the album brings together a combination of sounds encompassing everything from David Bowie to Queen and Depeche Mode. The glam rock, disco-inspired, synthetic sounds of the past and the future have finally 46 pure
united for a new and fresh take on today’s modern alternative rock. It’s a sound most of us have been looking. Influenced by a tour taken in the summer of 2008, the band traveled to several countries including South America, South Africa and the Middle East. The band started writing songs for The Resistance earlier that year but put recording on hold to tour. The music the band encountered while traveling helped them to hone their sounds and create the masterpiece that is now in the top 100 songs and albums on iTunes as well as the Billboard Charts. It’s no wonder Muse will be headlining at one of the biggest concert festivals in the U.S in April - The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival held in Indio, California. Opening for Muse is the Los Angelesbased rock group Silversun Pickups. This is one of my favorite bands. Touring in celebration of their newest album titled Swoon, the band has toured relentlessly for the past five years. Only now are they finally getting the recognition they deserve. Their first single off of Swoon “Panic Switch” was a huge success, selling over 200,000 copies, it landed them at No. 2 on USA Today’s alternative airplay charts for 11 weeks, and got them nominated for the “Best New Artist Grammy” (even though they’ve been together 11 years). They lost but are still proud to have accomplished as much as they have. They first got radio play when the song “Lazy Eye” (off their album Carnavas) hit radio stations in 2006. The pure
song peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in 2007 and has since been downloaded over 500,000 times - giving the band a fan base that was eager for more. With the release of Swoon, the band tried to “step outside the box” and experiment with new sounds. Yet, they also kept the same romantic and grungy rock guitar distortion fans fell in love with originally. I believe that this is the reasoning Swoon debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard’s Pop charts and the first released single from the Album “Panic Switch” has stayed within the top 20 on the Alternative Rock charts since its release. Together with Muse, this concert is a no miss event. I have seen Muse perform in Vegas and SSPUs perform twice – once at Coachella and once at ACL. These bands are two of the best live acts in the market – both having a very unique sound. Thrive Nightclub Dallas’ downtown Crowne Plaza Hotel is doing all it can to draw attention to itself after its transformation from the West End Hotel. Owners Patricia and Terry Tognazzini know as well as anyone else that you can’t have a “destination” hotel without a “destination” nightclub. Hence the debut of Thrive, a brand new club in the former space of a 10,000 square foot theater space. Club promoters and PR agents have been quick to compare Thrive to Las Vegas nightclubs (a comparison that has
never been as favorable as club promoters would like to think), and crown it THE place for Dallas’ elite, but it kind of strikes us as, well, a nightclub. Sure it’s nice – we’re as impressed by a stretched reflective vinyl ceiling as much as the next haughty travel guide – but, I mean, there’s not much here we haven’t seen before. The multimillion-dollar design reins were handed to Charles Doell of Mister Important Design (who, to his credit, has designed some clubs in Vegas), and he responded with all the hallmarks of 58 pure
punchy one syllable nightclubs: VIP areas, expensive lighting displays and a large, custom designed dance floor. The aforementioned stretched vinyl ceiling (a concept stolen from France) works in concert with metallic wall coverings to reflect and deflect colored lights, surely disorienting more than a few well-dressed club hotties. Naturally there are some private bottle-service booths, but if that’s not VIP enough for you (we know you need the validation), then you can check out the private lounge complete with black one-way glass so you can surreptitiously (and kind of creepily) peer on other clubgoers. Spyker C8 Aileron "What is it? Where's it from?" If I had a dollar for every time I was asked those questions during my time with the Spyker C8 Aileron in and around Dallas, my bank manager would be my new very best friend. The Spyker C8 Aileron is a handbuilt sports car powered by a mid-mounted Audi 4.2-liter V-8. And it's made in ...Holland.

Holland is famous for many things, but automaking is not one of them. But Holland does have an automotive history. Truckmaker DAF once built cars, and company founder Hubert van Doorne invented the continuously variable transmission. Spyker predates DAF — coachbuilders Jacobus and Hendrik-Jan Spijker built their first car in 1898, and the 60/80-hp model of 1903 featured a six cylinder engine, all-wheel drive, and four wheel disc brakes. Spyker also built fighter planes and aero engines during World War I. Spyker cars enjoyed a reputation for quality engineering, but the company went out of business in 1925. Fast forward 75 years. Victor Muller, a Dutch lawyer with a talent for buying and selling companies, and a passion for cars — his personal collection has included Ferraris, Rolls-Royces, Lancias, Maseratis, Alfa Romeos -- unveils the Spyker C8 at the 2000 Birmingham Motor Show. The name might be old, but the extravagantly detailed roadster it's bolted to is all new. It would be easy to dismiss Victor Muller as a wealthy dilettante with an Enzo Ferrari complex. In the nine years since launching the C8, his tiny company has made just 257 cars and has yet to turn a profit. But spend a few minutes with Muller, and his passion, his enthusiasm, his sheer determination to succeed are obvious. The Spyker C8 Aileron looks an evolution of the original Spyker C8, but is pretty much all new. It has a 5.9 -in. longer wheelbase, a 6.1-in. wider front track, and the aluminum space frame now features cast nodes instead of riveted joints for improved rigidity. It shares its forged aluminum control-arm suspension with the new Lotus Evora, and the big disc brakes are AP Racing items. The mid-mounted Audi V-8 develops 400 hp, and drives the rear wheels through either a six speed Getrag manual transmission or a six speed ZF automatic from the Audi A8 sedan modified for two wheel drive. Living Your True Life With Ashley Berges
Be Yourself — And by the Way, Who Are You? When you know who you are, you act accordingly. When you don’t understand yourself you can’t begin to understand yourself or others. Who are you and why do you categorize yourself as so? What makes you laugh and smile, what makes you cry, and what makes you, you? When evaluating these questions, we must allow internal insight to play a large part in putting the puzzle pieces together.
What makes you a unique individual? 1. Present. Living our life in the present tense is so important. Our past and past experiences can cloud our actions and judgments. Sometimes, it is necessary to use past events to shed light on present situations, but we can’t act out of fear when dealing with the present. The present allows us to make all changes we need in order to have a true life that allows for our happiness, our progress, 96 pure
and to better ourselves daily. All we have is the present moment, we can’t go back and change the past, we must focus on the moment we have and create what we need for ourselves. Lets not confuse the present with the future. The present moment is truly a present, a gift, which we can do what we choose. We can choose to appreciate it and open it and go with the flow and not against it. Or we can choose to look back and concentrate on the past or look beyond it and conjure up a possible future. In order to live truly, we must live in the moment, have our past for the memories and the learning curve, and focus on the present and make the best out of this moment that we’ve been given. 2. Environment. Our Environment can definitely impact our thoughts and emotions. When our environment is peaceful, we are able to feel safe and not threatened. We can focus on other pursuits and not worry or be controlled by fear. However, sometimes we can’t change our environment, we must learn to live within it and thrive. In order to do that, we must see the positive in our environment and not dwell upon fear. The way we see our environment is the way we see the world. In order to have a good life outlook, we must have a good environmental outlook and if things need to be done to better our environment, then we need to do them. Because our environment shapes us so much personally, we must strive to better our environment anyway we can. Whether we help with city programs for pure
children or animals, give a sandwich to a homeless person, recycle our waste, demonstrate kindness, be an active participant in community programs, etc. We can all find several ways to make our environment better for everyone. Living in a peaceful and clean environment is necessary for quality human growth, and we can all do our part to supply that. 3. Friends. The friends we select have a huge impact on our lives, theories, beliefs, experiences, and the present moment. A good friend helps us become wiser, gives us constructive criticism, and provides sound and unbiased advice. We need friends who care about the things we care about and care about us. Friends must also share our commitment to truth, growth, and love. A friend must have your best interests at heart and you for them. Our friends really help to color and vitalize our lives. When our friends are mindful and living truly, we are able to thrive in a positive and growth driven environment. It's always difficult for those trying to read their partners mind on what gifts to give to show affection — flowers, candy, perfume, lingerie, jewelry—this list is endless. I’d like to offer this little tidbit of advice — flowers will die, candy will get eaten, perfume will get used, lingerie will wear out and jewelry can be expensive. This year I recommend giving your partner something more — a new and improved you!
