Heritage projects in Hong Kong are continuing to benefit from an increase in the range of available funding streams. This funding plays a critical role in helping people, projects and communities ensure the long-term sustainability of sites that face evolving challenges in respect of land pressures, climate risks, and adapting to a post-pandemic environment. Why are funds so critical to heritage projects? Grants have been made available in recognition of the importance of preserving Hong Kong’s architectural heritage. They can be used to undertake pilot studies; to cover essential costs for maintenance, repair and improvement works; implementation of digital advancements; and towards innovation, research, and development. Some of the examples of available funding includes Financial Assistance for Maintenance Scheme on Built Heritage (“the Maintenance Scheme”); Lord Wilson Heritage Trust; Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme; and Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme.
