JUBILEE EVENTS

Congratulations and jubilee-tions! You’ll can’t fail to have noticed that our monarch is celebrating a very special milestone this year, and the nation will join Her Majesty the Queen in marking her Platinum Jubilee between June 2 &5. Here is a peek at a few of the events happening across Northamptonshire to celebrate. Thursday, June 2 Lamport Hall is turning to a programme of music to mark the Jubilee, with the trumpets, drums, horns, oboes, and strings of the Fiori Musicali Chamber Orchestra and Musical Choir. The programme of plenty, beginning at 8.15pm, will include music by Handel, Tippett and Purcel. For ticket information visit lamporthall.co.uk

Friday, June 3 The Paulerspury Players are kickstarting the village celebrations with the Jubilee Variety Show, Singing In The Reign. See what they did there?!

The music and comedy starts at 7.30pm, and tickets are ridiculously cheap – visit paulerspuryplayers.com to see how cheap. For a little extra, they’ll sort out a Ploughmans Supper for you too.

Saturday, June 4 The focus will be on Northampton town centre from 11am when a spectacular countywide pageant, featuring military and emergency services personnel, youth and community groups and businesses from across Northamptonshire, will begin. The pageant will start at the top of Abington Street before heading along George Row, up The Drapery and onto the Market Square where a celebration service will be held. > A fun day out for all the family is promised at the Towcester Jubilee Fayre, running between 11am and 5pm at the Towcester Recreation Ground. > Northampton & Lamport Railway is on track to host a ‘Strawberries and Steam’ event, with free portions of the sweet treat, and steam train rides between 10am and 3pm. Sounds like a lovely way to spend a little time. Can’t make it today? The event is also running on Sunday. Visit nlr.org.uk for more. > Make the journey to Rushden and be rewarded with a Platinum Party at The Goods Shed, from 7pm. The Platinum Party at the

Palace is being streamed live on the big screen and the bar will be open. If you are heading over, get a free souvenir photo of you and your tribe superimposed onto the Royal Balcony to take home.

Sunday, June 5 A Big Picnic Lunch is being held at Delapre Abbey with music and arts performances, stalls and activities. The bad news is that all tickets to the event have sold out, but the slightly better news is that a waiting list is in place, so it’ still worth making contact in the hope of availability. > Wicksteed Park is the venue for a Big Picnic Lunch hosted by North Northamptonshire Council. > Rushden’s Big Jubilee Lunch is being held at The Walled Garden. Pack a picnic, or purchase refreshments on site, while you enjoy entertainment from artists including Bubble Love, Michelle Gibbs Dance Academy, magician Peter Gardini, New Harmony and Laugh Out Loud Theatre Company.

And a little later... The town’s Bach Choir will deliver The Jubilee Proms at The Derngate on Sunday, June 12, with firm favourites like Zadok the Priest and Jerusalem figuring in the ‘Last Night of the Proms’ type event. The Wellingborough Singers and Orchestra de Camera will also bring their talents to the musical party, and other compositions will come from Vaughan Williams, Parry, Rutter, and Elgar – a flag waving event simply must have Pomp and Circumstance March No1! unique nationwide tree planting initiative has been created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, with the catchy tagline, Plant a Tree for the Jubilee. Whether individual or school, scouting group or corporate, we are all encouraged to help improve the environment by planting a tree, helping to create a legacy to benefit future generations.

The Queen’s Green Canopy will also dedicate a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the UK and identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s seven decades of service. Tree planting will now begin again in October, and run to the end of the Jubilee year. All you need to know to help grow this brilliant idea can be found at queensgreencanopy.org
