WELCOME BACK!

Throughout my career, the start of a new school year has always filled me with excitement. Just thinking about the positive direction Shore Regional has traveled in the past few years leaves me in great anticipation for 2009-2010.

New students, faculty and administrators will be brought together with the mutual goal of succeeding. Whether attempting to ace a test, explain a complicated concept or provide service to the community, all those who spend their days at Shore Regional High School carry an enthusiasm that lasts throughout the year.

Perhaps most noticeable to all will be the constructive facilities work currently taking place. Iʼd like to take this opportunity to assure our students and their families that our faculty and staff will do everything possible to ensure that the learning experiences provided will be just as rich as any previous year at Shore Regional. The structural improvement of the school will not come between our mission of educating the whole person to be self aware, culturally aware, and involved in life-long learning.

The 2009-2010 school year promises to be one of the most unique and exciting in Shore Regionalʼs history. New course offerings and extracurricular clubs are bound to heighten already strong programs. Just as vital to the growth of the school are our alumni, who continue to “get back in touch” with Shore Regional. Whether a graduate of Shore or not, I invite you to keep in contact with us and share in our communities joint effort to make Shore Regional High School a truly exceptional place.

REFERENDUM UPDATE

At this time last year, Shore Regional High Schoolʼs Office of Business Administration enlightened the sending districtʼs residents of the necessity of a new heating and ventilation system. Guided facility tours, phone calls and emails conducted by this office helped many understand the dire importance of September 2008ʼs referendum. After a heartening positive voter turnout, the goal of bringing Shore Regional High Schoolʼs classrooms into the twenty-first century truly began.

By the spring of 2009, quality, cost-efficient engineering and architectural firms had been retained. Their blueprints and plans have thoroughly reviewed and approved by the administration, Board of Education and state. The month of June saw the first steps being taken toward preparing individual classrooms for complete overhauls of heating, ventilation and lighting systems.Once students and faculty departed for the summer, work immediately commenced at a feverish pace that has yet to relent.

The process and progress of the referendum has truly exceeded expectations. By the publication of this newsletter, twenty-four classrooms will have experienced renovations. These improvements will immensely enhance learning conditions for Shore Regionalʼs students as well as the workplace for fac(above: a sample revamped classroom featuring brand-new ulty and staff. Ultimately, the entire building will have modern climate and lighting capabilities that infinitely perform more efficiently than the outdated and defunct system put in place nearly fifty years ago.

My confidence with the firms completing the referendumʼs work has never wavered. In hopes to instill the same optimistic assurance, I invite anyone seeking information regarding the construction process to contact me. Although the 2009-2010 school year may be transformative for our building, the quality education our children receive at Shore Regional will always be constant.

C e l e b r at i n g S u c c e s s : Monmouth Countyʼs First IB Diploma Recipients Hail From the Distinguished Shore Regional Class of 2009

After two years of intensive study and a continuous month of examinations in May 2009, Shore Regional graduates Kimberly Collier, Leanne Sullivan and Anne Thoma received the prestigious International Baccalaureate Programme Diploma. Notified of their accomplishment in July, the three talented young women were honored at the August Board of Education meeting. Board member Tadeusz “Ted” Szczurek spoke highly of their achievements and gave each an IB diploma and a special plaque acknowledging their tremendous success.

Ms. Collier currently attends the University of Maryland, Ms. Sullivan Fordham University and Ms. Thoma Barnard College. Each received special consideration from their respective institutions of higher learning having earned the notable IB Diploma. In some cases whole classes were waived, while in others placement testing was not needed based on the great proficiency exhibited on the IB Examinations.

Shore Regional High School extends heartfelt congratulations to each of these fine graduates and wishes luck to all of the Shore IB Candidates from the Class of 2009.
