SRHS SEPTEM BER STUDENT OF THE M ONTH JUNIOR M ARY KATE GEORGE Rol e Model : My sister Sarah is my role model because she can never be satisfied and is always working hard to achieve her next goal. She sets her sights really high and does not stop until she gets there. Teacher wit h t he Most Impact : Mrs. Koontz is another one of my role models and is my favorite teacher so far. Mrs. Koontz was my freshman year English teacher. Freshman year can be scary and she was always smiling and reassuring me when I got stressed. Mr. Labush's class had the most influence on me as a person. In his English class we learned about life and purpose through great books. It made me question the world around me in a way I had never before and it forced me to form my own opinions. Current Act ivit ies: Class President, Huddle leader (FCA) , The Beacon (SRHS Student Newspaper), Cross Country, Winter Track, & Lacrosse Fut ure Goal s & Pl ans: In two years, after I graduate from Shore Regional, I will go to Ohio State to play lacrosse. I would like to major in psychology or possibly criminal justice. I hope to have a family and live in the Shore Regional area. I hope to be happy in whatever I end up doing. Personal Quot e: "If it's meant to be, it will be."

SRHS SEPTEM BER STUDENT OF THE M ONTH SENIOR DEAN SM OLOKOFF Rol e Model : My role model is my mother. She continuously motivates me to do better than I had the previous day. She's worked and continues to work very hard to make sure that my siblings and I mature to be respectful, humble, honest, and hard working people. Teacher wit h t he Most Impact : Mr. Nicol, who I had for Geometry, Trig-Precalc, and Physics is the teacher who has had the most impact on me. He did what I thought was impossible and made math class a fun time. The way he could make the entire class laugh, and then continue to teach a productive lesson makes him admirable to me. At the same time, he also made me a better student by providing me with challenging assessments and giving me lessons that helped boost my confidence in math. Current Act ivit ies: Wrestling & Baseball Fut ure Goal s & Pl ans: My future goals are to graduate college, obtain a steady career, and travel the world with my family. Personal Quot e: "Find a way" -Mr. Porta

FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT MR.THOMASG.FARRELL IT?S A GREAT TIME TO BE A BLUE DEVIL! Shore Regional High School is buzzing with innovation. Over the past few years, we have dramatically improved technology infrastructure, facilities, security, and academic programming; the accolades keep coming in! Recently, Shore Regional and its stellar graduation rate, was recognized as one of America?s Top High Schools in ?Newsweek,? ?New Jersey Monthly,? and ?The Washington Post.? Our exceptional faculty continues to nurture, engage, and challenge our students throughout an educational program that is inclusive of a great degree of academic rigor. Shore Regional accepts students from different sending districts (as well as tuition-paying students), and this contributes to our well-rounded population. We are more ?parochial? in nature than many private schools, and our small class sizes are conducive to personalized learning. Shore Regional is proud to offer numerous college-preparatory, honors, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and embedded dual-credit college courses all on campus. As an International Baccalaureate School, Shore Regional participates in the International Exchange Program and I-20 program, affording international students the opportunity to attend on a tuition basis. Part of our A/ B block schedule, Shore Regional provides courses for students with interests in the fine, practical, and performing arts. Having been one of the first districts to establish a 1:1 Chromebook initiative in addition to offering diverse co-curricular and athletic activities, Shore Regional?s program is aligned with individual student abilities, needs, and career goals. At Shore Regional, we collaborate with all stakeholders to pursue a shared vision of high quality. We are a regional high school that puts students first. Our mission is to produce altruistic graduates who are lifelong learners, equipped with unlimited capacity to compete in a superior manner.

FROM THE BUSINESS ADM INISTRATOR MS.COREYLOWELL Since I started with the Shore Regional High School District on September 1st, it looks like I missed some of the excitement this summer! There were some big projects around the school. The most notable and clearly the largest is the replacement of the grandstand with press box for Feeney Field at Blue Devils Alumni Stadium. Not to be overshadowed, the track was also resurfaced this summer. One of my first tasks here was to secure financing for a security camera and door access system replacement project, which will kick off next week and take 3-4 weeks to complete. This is a much-needed security upgrade. I?d like to thank all of the administrators at Shore Regional and West Long Branch School District for their warm welcome into my first endeavor into shared services. We?ve hit the ground running by discussing budget philosophy and planning for the 2017-18 budget. I?m looking forward to a successful year at Shore.

SRHS SHORE PLAYERS TO PUT THEIR OWN SPIN ON SHAKESPEARE A Midsummer Night?s Dream comes to Shore Regional High School with the Shore Players from December 8 through 11. ?Lord, what fools these mortals be!? A Midsummer Night?s Dream, William Shakespeare's most popular and magical comedy, portrays the adventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with woodland fairies and a duke and duchess. Taking place in a mythical Athens and an enchanted forest, there is a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, star-crossed lovers, a weaver who's transformed into a half-donkey and more. This work is widely performed around the world, and no wonder - it's about the world's most popular pastime, falling in love. But as Puck

knows, falling in love can make fools of us all. This is the first time during his tenure with Shore Players that Director Todd Aikens has chosen Shakespeare for his student actors. ?I felt this group was up to the challenge. Many of them have been in several Shore Players shows, and we have a strong freshman class and saw a large turnout for auditions. We?re so excited to have seven students in Midsummer who are appearing in their first Shore Players production!? According to Aikens, Midsummer is the perfect play to showcase this talented community. ?This show has all the ingredients for a great night of entertainment ? broad comedy, high drama, love, heartbreak, music and

magic. Our students will have a very full theater experience and come away as more well-rounded performers!? Performances are December 8, 9, 10 & 11 ? Thursday at 7:00PM, Friday and Saturday at 8:00PM and Sunday at 2:00PM. A special preview performance for senior citizens will be offered on Wednesday, December 7 at 7:30PM. All seats are general admission. Advance Tickets: $10 Adults, $5 for Students/ Seniors. All Tickets after December 7: $15. Buy tickets online at https:/ / sp.booktix.com. Filled with lovers, fairies and rustics, A Midsummer Night?s Dream has something for everyone. Add a misapplied love potion, mistaken identities and the most famous play-within-a play

ever written, and you have a perfect recipe for mirth. The language, poetry, and wit of Shakespeare shine as bright and as lovely as the moon in this timeless classic. The Shore Players production showcases our truly talented high school performers. The cast includes Nick Troncoso (Theseus/ Oberon), Isabella Whitaker (Egeus), Gavin Hegglin (Lysander), Jake Cecero (Demetrius), Taylor Sniffen (Peter Quince), Jared Cohen (Bottom), Ryan Kozak (Flute), Jack Hester (Snout), Anthony Nannarello (Snug), TJ Macaluso (Starveling),

Maggie Harvey (Hippolyta), Gianna Cappillo (Hermia), Olivia Rescigno (Olivia), Ellie George (Titania), Colin Ahearn (Puck), Hope Allem (Peaseblossom), Rachel Primavera (Cobweb),

AROUND THE SHORE SRHS STUDENTS DIG INTO A "SEED TO TABLE" SCIENCE LESSON WITH THE SCHOOL' S FIRST ORGANIC GARDEN PROJECT

Mr. Aprahamian?s AP Environmental Science class planned, developed and executed Shore Regional's first organic school garden project. The garden serves as an extension to the classroom, as it teaches students the fundamental lesson of ?seed to table.? The first harvest was a success and yielded 71 sweet potatoes. Mr. Aprahamian then baked sweet potato pies for his students from the organic sweet potatoes grown in the school's garden.

SAW HOLDS "BARKTOBERFEST" RAISES FUNDS FOR "DOGS FOR THE DEAF" SAW (Students for Animal Welfare) held their annual "Barktoberfest" at the recent West Long Branch Fall Festival. SAW raised funds for "Dogs for the Deaf" through bake sales and basket auctions. They also held a pet costume contest, photobooth, and volunteered throughout the festival.

SRHS STUDENTS EXPLORE ELLIS ISLAND Students from Italian 4 Honors, English as a Second Language, and Shore's International Students all attended a trip to explore Ellis Island. Students had an opportunity to experience the same questions that were asked of the immigrants when they came through Ellis Island more than 100 years ago.

SHORE HOSTS GUEST SPEAKERS FOR ANTI BULLYING WEEK AND ANTI VIOLENCE WEEK Guest speakers from "You Can Not Be Replaced" presented to Freshman and Sophomore students as well as Shore parents and guardians. Melissa and Chip Dayton are the founders of "You Can NOT Be Replaced" that began after the 7th death of a student from their local high school. The movement began with passable wristbands that grew from a onetime purchase of 500 wristbands for local youth to over 58,000 across the country, Canada, UK and Australia 3 years later. Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office also presented to the Junior and Senior Classes.

SHORE STUDENT COUNCIL HOSTS SENIOR CITIZEN SPAGHETTI DINNER The Student Council representatives served senior citizens a delicious pasta dinner at the Autumnal themed Shore Regional cafeteria on Thursday, October 20th. Students transformed the cafeteria from their everyday lunch room into a Fall Festival inspired restaurant for their annual Senior Citizen Pasta Dinner. Over thirty senior citizens from the Shore Regional community showed up for a fun night of food, friends, and music provided by former Shore Regional student Artur Workstus. Giving back to the senior citizens from the local community, West Long Branch, Oceanport, Monmouth Beach, and Sea Bright, was the main goal of the event, and the entertainment and friendships made were a bonus too! Hosted every year by Shore Regional High School?s Student Council, the pasta dinner is continuously a success for the senior citizens, teachers, and students involved.

ALUM NI SPOTLIGHT SHORECONGRATULATESALUMRYANWHALENONJOININGTHEEKUBASKETBALLCOACHINGSTAFF SRHS Alum Ryan Whalen joined the Eastern Kentucky University men's basketball coaching staff in September of 2016. Prior to that Whalen served as Director of Basketball Operations at Seton Hall. Whalen is a graduate of Shore Regional High School where he lettered in basketball (shooting guard) and football (wide receiver and defensive back). "Shore Regional helped prepare me for my current career path in that it taught me responsibility and accountability," said Whalen. "The teachers and coaches there were all such fantastic people who really had my best interest at heart. They taught me what it meant to work hard in order to achieve my goals. I knew every morning when I showed up to either the classroom or practice, I was going to get better and learn. I would tell current SRHS students to never give up on your dreams no matter what people tell you. If you want something bad enough in life it is going to take a lot of hard work and sacrifice to get there. That is part of what makes any journey so enjoyable. When you can look back and see what you went through to get to that point, it makes it all worth it!"
