Headteacher’s Welcome

Interview with Mrs Cayless, HLTA/EAL Co-ordi t and Sanvitti in Yea

Mrs Cayless, what inspired you to be a teacher?

I wanted to travel so it made sense to train to teach English as a second language when I left university and I also genuinely love working with young people.

If you weren’t a teacher what would you be?

I would have been an artist because I love painting but the only problem is that I get so absorbed in it that I can barely think of anything else.

Why did you choose to teach at Bohunt Farnborough?

I came here 13 years ago, when I applied for a job as a Learning Support Assistant and immediately felt a strong connection with staff and students. I am now the EAL co-ordinator and I love my job.

Tell me a little about a teacher that inspired you.

I had an amazing English teacher who spoke to us like adults and we had the most incredible discussions in the lessons. He was called Mr Reed!

What is one exciting teaching method you use?

It’s not really a method but it makes me really happy. I run an International Club on Friday lunchtimes and the students are so enthusiastic, they create the most wonderful presentations about their home countries and we all learn so much together.

What are your thoughts on education today? Gosh! There is so much to say. Certainly I think it’s more important than ever to look outwards than inwards because we are all so incredibly interconnected.

Interview with Mrs Cayless, HLTA/EAL Co-ordinator and Sanvitti in Year10

Sanvitti, tell me about yourself in 30 seconds.

I’m from India. My hobbies are dancing and playing badminton and I’m quite good at Maths.

What are your strengths?

I believe in myself a lot. Sometimes I think I may be wrong about something but I always have a positive perspective and look forward to the future.

Give me one example of something you enjoy, respect or have achieved at Bohunt Farnborough.

How to be really really good and express yourself through studies, sports and extracurricular activities. I have done two solo Indian dances at the Global Fair. This year people cheered so loudly I could hardly hear the beat to the music!

What or whom inspires you?

Mrs Cayless because I feel safe around her. She hears my thoughts and does not judge me and also my tutor and head of year who help me academically.

What are your plans for the future after leaving school?

I am planning to go to the sixth form college and from there pursue electrical engineering. I am confident I can achieve this.

What is your favourite line from a book/movie/song?

Lord of the Flies – the line, ‘Maybe it’s only us ’ – this relates to me a lot because it highlights the inner evil and teaches you that life is not full of good people. We need to be careful and not naïve.

What one thing would you change about school life?

I can’t think of anything, to me it’s perfect.

Meet Bohunt Farnborough’s New Head Students

We are pleased to introduce our newly appointed Head Students. We asked them to tell us what it means to them to be part of the leadership team.

Meet Bohunt Farnborough’s New Head Students

PHOEBE: HEAD-STUDENT

I remember a time when I doubted myself, but with determination, encouragement and support I gained the confidence to keep going. That experience showed me that leadership is about courage, kindness, and supporting others. Being part of the student leadership team is about representing and supporting our school community, not just holding a position. True leadership means helping others to not only find confidence but to lead too.

LAURENTIU: HEAD-STUDENT

Being part of the student leadership team is an honour. Standing side by side with people who want to make a difference, see changes happen and watch as the environment around them flourishes, is truly inspiring. It pushes you to break out of your comfort zone and speak out on what you believe should happen. Being part of the student leadership team makes you realise how much really happens behind the scenes and just how busy staff are and how much effort gets poured into every single day. It is truly an experience that will change the way you see the world, and see the true value of people.

LILLY: DEPUTY HEAD-STUDENT

I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to our school community as part of the Student Executive Team. In the short time I’ve held this role, I’ve had the privilege of speaking in assemblies and working closely with both students and staff. I took on this position to support those around me, and I’m proud to say that we ’ ve already begun making a positive impact. Our team strives to embody the school’s core values of respect, encouragement, and success and we hope to inspire others to do the same.

Meet Bohunt Farnborough’s New Head Students

MAX: DEPUTY HEAD-STUDENT

I love being a part of the senior leadership. It's an honour to have the role, in my opinion there's nothing to lose, you're only ever gaining whether you're speaking in an assembly or discussing future plans for the school. If I had to say one thing I love about it is it would be the trust people have in you to provide the best possible future for them and the responsibility you have with it.

EVIE: DEPUTY HEAD-STUDENT

With the student executive team is a place where I feel confident enough and comfortable enough to express my thoughts and ideas. To work in collaboration with staff and other students is such a privilege and overall a wonderful experience. Although I have only had a short time with this role, the positive impacts we have made is something to be grateful for. I hope that when people consider applying for a role, they really appreciate how special it is.

REECE: DEPUTY HEAD-STUDENT

Being a part of this wonderful team is a privilege. Having the opportunity to discuss your opinions on a higher level whilst also building confidence whilst presenting to your peers. I am honoured to have this role and I would advise everyone to applying as everyone is special and with this role it can unlock your potential
