The School of Fine Arts of Cuenca at the Castilla-La Mancha University in Spain hosted the second session of the project. This young academic center was created in 1986 to reflect a totally new and pioneering spirit within an education context that needed to adjust to new artistic transformations. Relevant figures of the Spanish art, such as Luis Gordillo, Lucio Muñoz and Antonio López provided advise to the University and materialized a new method to teach Fine Arts within the university environment and the programs existing in Spain at that time. The development of this new teaching concept privileged the inclusion of new forms and art practices, fostering interdisciplinary exchanges and experimentation. The University also hosts the International Museum of Electrography -a space specialized in electrographic art, electronic art, as well as infographic, multimedia and Net.art creations. In the early 90’s, this place already spearheaded the experimentation field using new image reproduction techniques. Moreover, the Foundation “Antonio Pérez” and the “Museo de Obra Gráfica de San Clemente” 1, are also located in the surrounding, contributing to state Cuenca fertile grounds for the work on paper.
La Facultad de Bellas Artes de Cuenca de la Universidad de Castilla–La Mancha en España alojó la 2da sesión del proyecto. Este es un centro académico muy joven que nació en 1986 con un espíritu totalmente nuevo y pionero dentro de un contexto universitario en el que había que adaptarse a las transformaciones artísticas. Relevantes figuras del arte español como, entre otros, Luis Gordillo, Lucio Muñoz y Antonio López, asesoraron a la universidad e hicieron posible la concepción de un modelo nuevo de enseñanza universitaria de las Bellas Artes dentro de los ya existentes en ese momento en España. En el desarrollo de este nuevo concepto de enseñanza universitaria primaron la inclusión de nuevas formas y prácticas artísticas, la interdisciplinariedad y la vocación experimental. La Universidad alberga también el Museo Internacional de Electrografía -un espacio especializado en arte electrográfico, electrónico, creaciones infográficas, multimedia y Net.art.- que ya había abierto una puerta muy ancha para la experimentación con los nuevos medios de reproducción de la imagen desde principios de los 90. In this context, Self-Portraits was a seminar I offered to college students and graduated students. They were from Cuenca or were residing there during their studies. The second session ran smoothly because this academic environment had been experimenting with new technologies for a long time and the goals of the workshop were in line with those of the university. The young students had knowledge of the digital techniques; in fact they grew with them. In addition, they were immersed in an environment that encouraged to explore these techniques -this was no hurdle to be overcome-. Here we needed to work focused more on the image than on the technique, since students were in the process of creating their personal images. In this
