It’s our great pleasure to invite you and your wonderful teams to join us at the Pullman Melbourne Albert Park this October 2022 to consider and celebrate together all that is great about independent Optometry. We look forward to meeting you over the course of the Conference. This is a great forum to exchange ideas and discuss new strategies. The Conference will also be an excellent opportunity for you to meet with the Board, and your colleagues, in a relaxed and engaging environment. Our Conference theme is Look Forward and to shine a light on what we believe is a prosperous yet challenging future for independent Optometry. The Conference program is designed to inform, challenge, and inspire through this prism. Our speakers are hand-picked subject matter experts outside the field of optometry:

We all look forward to seeing you and your team at this year’s Conference.
Ian was a fitting choice to be selected by the ProVision Board, to deliver the inaugural Micheal George Knipe AM Memorial Address.
Presented by Ian Bluntish
The Micheal George Knipe AM Memorial address has been established to honour Micheal and to remind us of the contribution that he made to optometry, ProVision and the welfare of people in Australia and overseas. The ProVision Board believes that his contribution to the community and the profession of optometry should be remembered, and it is our ambition that it will inspire others to follow Micheal’s lead.
Ian Bluntish has over 40 years’ experience in a wide range of optometric practices around Australia and has been based at Glenelg for over 20 years. Optometry has been continually changing over that time and Ian has a keen interest in, and commitment to, keeping abreast of these opportunities.
We extend our thanks to Caroline Knipe, son Henry and daughters Sophie and Eleanor for endorsing this Memorial.
He is a past President of the Optometry Association (SA and National), is the immediate past chair of the Optometrists Registration Board of Australia and the chair of ProVision.
MICHEAL KNIPE AM MEMORIAL ADDRESS INAUGURAL ADDRESS
In a long and distinguished career, Micheal was the longest standing chairman of ProVision serving for 15 years. He was elected to the National Council of OA and served a term as National President and was subsequently recognised in the 2015 Australia Day Honours list with the citation reading “for significant service to optometry through executive roles with professional organisations and to the community of East Timor”. As a practitioner, he was a principal in the largest independent practice group in Tasmania, Total Eyecare Optometrists, and was also the prime mover in the establishment of the optometric eye clinic at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

Throughout his life, Micheal led for change and inspired others to achieve the goals of both the profession and of ProVision. Micheal lost his battle with illness in February 2019.

DYLAN
SPECIAL EVENT
Australian of the Year 2022, Dylan Alcott AO, a dual sport athlete, has represented Australia on the international stage in both wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis since the age of 13. One of Dylan Alcott’s greatest achievements was being inducted as a member of the Order of Australia in 2009 at the age of 18. From there, Dylan and The Rollers followed up their win in Beijing with victory at the 2010 FIBA World Championships, becoming the first Australian basketball team to ever win the title. In 2017, Dylan created the Dylan Alcott Foundation, to help young people who are struggling to come to terms with their disabilities. Dylan is also an entrepreneur, and is the co-founder of Get Skilled Access, a training provider educating corporates and governments on how to better understand and treat customers with disabilities. In 2021, Dylan Alcott became the only male in any form of tennis to win the Golden Slam, winning the Australian, French, Wimbledon and now US Open Championships, together with his gold medal from the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
Proudly sponsored by Not many people can lay claim to being a Paralympic gold medallist and world champion whilst still being in their teenage years. Then again, there aren’t many people like Dylan.
Dylan’s true passion is his work as a motivational speaker, and through his inspirational storytelling, he is continually trying to alter and change the way people with disabilities are perceived in the wider community.
Dylan Alcott was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2022 for distinguished service to paralympic sport, particularly to tennis, and as a role model for people with disability, and to the community through a range of organisations.

It is time for us to own the space we were born into… starting with our physical space, it is time to remember what we already knew and acted with courage, conviction, and confidence. It is time for personal responsibility and self -leadership. It is time to let our light shine and lead the way. It is time for laughter, fun and fearlessness. It is time to allow ourselves joy. It is time to face our fears, move through our pain and sorrow, embrace our mistakes, grow through our failures, and nurture ourselves emotionally and mentally!
Julie is one of the most inspiring keynote speakers in Australia. She combines powerful insights into human behaviour with practical strategies that leaves audiences with powerful tools for living their best life and setting a higher standard in all aspects of their existence.
