ProjectStree 2024 Impact Report

Project Stree is a 501(c)(3) certified nonprofit that fights for women’s empowerment in India through menstrual hygiene education. We hold educational workshops for women and girls in rural villages in India.
We envision a future where every Indian woman fully accepts that her body and its processes are not something to be ashamed of. We advocate for a future where each woman feels empowered to take ownership of her own menstrual health.
Project Stree's mission is to empower Indian women and those who menstruate by increasing awareness about menstrual hygiene habits and challenging the stigma around women ' s health.
Project Stree is fortunate to work with partners, donors, and collaborators that share our goals of promoting menstrual health and education, allowing us to create meaningful change for women in India. We hope to continue tackling period poverty and the menstrual stigma in the coming years with your support!

Since 2020, Project Stree has been working with Saalt to promote a more sustainable period. Saalt shares Project Stree's mission to make having a hygienic and eco-friendly period accessible to all. With Saalt by our side we have been able to introduce menstrual cups to young girls in schools in urban Gujarat and address the stigmas surrounding the usage of menstrual cups.
One of the main contributors to poor menstrual hygiene in rural India is lack of clean underwear. Since 2021, Project Stree has partnered with Wear Equal, a sustainable underwear company, to provide up-cycled underwear to underprivileged communities in Gujarat. Together, we have been able to provide over 4,250 pairs of underwear to girls in need.
At Project Stree, we bring our mission to life by conducting interactive menstrual hygiene workshops designed for women and girls in Gujarat.
These sessions provide indepth knowledge on essential topics, including the anatomy of the uterus, the science behind menstruation, natural remedies for cramp relief, different types of discharge, and effective period tracking.
To wrap up each workshop, we facilitate thought-provoking discussions that explore reallife scenarios highlighting the stigma around menstruation.
By fostering open dialogue & a safe space, we challenge misconceptions, normalize menstruation, and empower participants with confidence and knowledge.
Five years and 100 workshops later, we ' re humbled by the impact we ' ve made together in breaking the stigma around menstrual health
This milestone is a testament to the power of education, and women’s empowerment.

This year, we held our fifth annual Diwali Drive where we were able to provide 300 Diwali care packages to underprivileged girls and women in Ahmedabad and Vadali. Our care packages included menstrual products, handmade divas by Andh Kanya Shala, bindi packets, traditional Diwali sweets, and savory snacks! Thank you to those who donated, volunteered, and spread the word - your kindness and generosity have made all the difference to these girls.
