Camp with Custodians at these nature-based campgrounds.
Camping with Custodians is an exciting, Australian-first initiative providing high-quality campgrounds on Aboriginal lands. Visitors can stay on Country, tour with local guides and experience first-hand one of the world’s oldest, continuing cultures. The campgrounds enable participating communities to share their culture, lifestyle and stories. There are currently seven Camping with Custodians campgrounds in Australia’s North West:
Djarindjin Campground
Highly accessible on the newly-sealed Cape Leveque Road, Djarindjin offers powered and unpowered sites, extra-wide drivethrough sites that cater to larger RVs and caravans, with modern facilities for you to wind down at the end of a long day on the road. Lombadina Campground
Lombadina provides both powered and unpowered sites and the opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the lifestyle and culture of this established community. This latest addition to the Camping with Custodians network opened in early May 2024 and is an exciting new tourism offering on the Dampier Peninsula. Easy access from the Cape Leveque Road and state-of-the-art camp facilities enables visitors to stay in comfort as they explore this wondrous landscape and learn from the community about the rich, extensive history and culture of this region. Doon Doon Campground
Located on the Great Northern Highway 110km south of Kununurra, the Doon Doon Campground and Roadhouse offers a range of creature comforts for visitors travelling through the East Kimberley region. Mimbi Caves Campground
Located 90km east of Fitzroy Crossing and 200km west of Halls Creek, nestled at the foot of the Emmanuel Ranges and just a short drive off Great Northern Highway, Mimbi Campground offers modern amenities, secluded camp sites and a friendly welcome. Arrive early to take part in a Mimbi Caves Tour, an inspiring guided tour of one of Australia’s most spectacular and significant natural geological sites. Peedamulla Station
Situated 7km from the North West Coastal highway just off the Peedamulla-Onslow Road, the Peedamulla Campground offers modern amenities, powered and unpowered sites and wonderful views of the expansive countryside. From Peedamulla there are opportunities to explore isolated coastline, wetlands and heritage-listed ruins. At night, marvel at the expansive Pilbara sky, where billions of stars sparkle like diamonds on a sheet of black velvet. Imintji Campground
Stay at this sheltered location at the foot of the spectacular Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges. The campground has wonderful views of the escarpment and is well situated to explore nearby natural attractions like Bell Gorge, Tunnel Creek, Windjana Gorge and surrounds.
