Winter Linseed – the low input alternative to winter OSR Proven Winter Hardiness

In February/March 2021 the UK experienced a prolonged cold, dry period that damaged a lot of crops species, even wheat and barley.

Premium Crops agronomists monitored the winter linseed acreage closely during this period.

Many Winter Linseed crops did lose leaves, but a large proportion of the affected acres recovered well with new shoots appearing quickly in the spring.

In the end this harsh weather resulted in just 5% being written off – a figure that compares very well, if not better than most mainstream crops such as OSR and Winter Beans.

45% less Nitrogen (N) than WOSR

RB209 suggest that a 3.5t/ha crop of OSR on index 2 soil will require 220kg N/ha. That is nearly twice as much as a Winter Linseed crop yielding 2.5mt/ha.
