Finca de Normalmente me encanta poder cubrir sobre aventuras alrededor del mundo y si es una aventura en Puerto Rico mejor todavía. En esta ocasión me tocó cubrir una aventura diferente, para mí, la más desafiante que jamás he tenido. Se trata de una hermosa finca de girasoles ubicada en el pueblo costero de Guánica. Al llegar fui recibido por Froylan Ávila, hijo del dueño de la "Finca el Girasol", nombre que muy bien describe lo que allí se trabaja. La idea de una finca de girasoles surgió cuando Froylan y su padre decidieron cosechar algo completamente diferente. Teniendo clara la idea, emprendió un viaje a Europa en busca de las mejores semillas y trajo a su regreso 4 hermosos colores de girasoles. El más que me impresionó fue uno llamado "Pinto", es el más

Normally I love to cover adventures around the world especially when its about our beautiful island. This time, the assignment was different and particularly challenging. Its about a beautiful sunower farm located at the coastal town of Guánica. Upon my arrival I was greeted by Froylan Ávila, the son of the owner sunower farm. The idea of starting this endeavor was born when Froylan and his father decided to grow something different. Once they decided on it Fryolan travelled to Europe to nd the best seeds and found 4 different colors of sunower all very beautiful, and the most gorgeous and unique one I've ever seen in my life is the “Pinto”. When you get to see this particular sunower you will agree wholeheartedly. Every day they cut owers to sell 1 for $3.00 and 2 for $5.00 and now they have added vegetables and minor fruits to their farm. As a Puerto Rican, I try very hard to consume what our land produces, so I make sure I buy locally produced fruits and vegetables. Arecibo – “EN EL 2016 LO RECUPERO TODO” con este lema la organización cristiana Bodyboarding Pro Circuit Challenge (BBPCC) retoma las cosas donde las dejó. Hace 8 años que no se realizaba la importante competencia de la tabla corporal Margara Bodyboarding Challenge en la marginal de Arecibo. Esta competencia tiene como mecanismo de asegurar las olas buenas, el famoso sistema de Waiting Period. Este periodo de espera se extendió del 16 de febrero al 22 de marzo como consecuencia el lunes 7 marzo tuvieron olas de 10 a 12 pies en condiciones perfectas y con los mejores bodyboarders de la Isla e Islas Canarias. Para sorpresa hubo mucha fluidez de personas a pesar que es un evento que se convoca por las redes sociales y vía teléfono. Las personas pudieron ver olas que solo en Hawái podrías ver al igual del calibre de competidores, ya que no es una competencia para principiantes sino que todos son profesionales del deporte. En énfasis de esta competencia fue la vieja escuela contra la nueva escuela pero al final lo que se logró fue una unión de deportistas y un impulso al deporte del bodyboarding local. El evento comenzó a las 7:30am en punto según el horario y se extendió durante todo el día en eliminatorias donde finalizó ganando en la categoría Open Pro Bodyboards, el camuyano y ganador del Encanto Pro, Rafa Rivera. En la categoría Dropknee o arrodillado sorprendió el joven Troy Donovan llevándole la victoria a muchos veteranos del

deporte. Otros ganadores fueron Quique Illobre con el mejor tubo, también Carlos Andrés Fernández fue el MVP de la competencia y el mejor movimiento en el agua fue para Kuko Font, quien vino de Australia a competir en su patio. También hubo un momento donde se homenajeo al joven de 16 años y futura estrella de este deporte, Abner De Arce quien es el campeón actual del Encanto Pro 2016 y quien obtuvo un perfecto en una ola tomada en una competencia profesional en Hawaii. Esta organización se caracteriza por llevar la palabra de Dios en sus eventos y así se vio en sus camisas y versículo de la biblia Isaías 51:15, el cual reclaman victoria por el mismo. La BBPCC quiere darle las gracias a Crash Boat Surf Shop que desde el principio dijo si vamos pal agua, al DRD estatal, Municipio de Arecibo, North Shore Surf Shop, Liz Crowley, Starbucks, Kalichee Surf Shop, Pan Pepín, Blast, FJ Off Road, Ozone, Margara Frozen, Ballistic Bodyboards, Black Flys, Hubbards y Manta Bodyboards, Wave Rebelz Surf Shop, Yano – Sureste Bodyboarder, LiveShot, EuroPart, Vuelta & Vuelta, FJ Exterminating, Tulum, la Catrina, 360 Clothing, la revista Puerto Rico de Aventura, ExtremaRD, Radio Joe, Riptide Magazine, Vert Magazine, La Regata, a sus héroes anónimos, también a Boogie Family y Surf-A-Turf.

Arecibo - “In 2016 we will take it all back” with this motto the Christian Bodyboarding Pro Circuit Challenge (BBPCC) returns things to where it left it off. It's been eight years since the last Margara Body Boarding Challenge that took place at La Marginal, Arecibo, a surng competition that has as its Fotografía por Andres Ballet mechanism to ensure great waves by using the famous Waiting Period system. This waiting period was from February 16 to March 22 and as a consequence on Monday, March 7 we had waves of 10 to 12 feet, perfect conditions for the best local body boarding athletes and from the and Canary Islands. Surprisingly, the event was full of people even though the only medium of promotion of the competition is social media and by phone. They were able to see waves that usually are thought only to be seen in Hawaii and great professional caliber competition. This competition is not for amateurs. The focus of this competition was the old school against the new school but what was accomplished was the joining of talents in this sport and the promotion of bodyboarding locally. The event started at 7:30am sharp and continued all day as until winners began standing out. Rafa Rivera won in the category of Open Pro Bodyboards, and has also won events such as the Encanto Pro. The young Troy Donovan surprised us all when he won the Dropnknee category outcompeting many veterans of the sport. Other winners were Quique Illobre with the best tube ride, Carlos Andrés Fernandez, MVP of the competition and the best movement in the water went to Kuko Font, who came from Australia to compete here in his backyard. Abner De Arce, a young 16 year old was paid tribute at the Margara Challenge event. He is the current Encanto Pro Champion and has done outstanding performances like getting a perfect score on a wave ride for this sport in a professional competition in Hawaii. This organization is known for bringing the Word of God to these sporting events y we could see on the T-Shirts the Bible verse from Isaiah 51-15, as victory was claimed in His Name. The BBPCC wants to thank Crash Boat Surf Shop that said “yes” from the very beginning. El Viejo San Juan está lleno de historia y una magia peculiar de trascendencia española que enamoran al más exigente de los visitantes. Es así que hoy día este pedazo de nuestra capital recibe miles de turistas en cruceros y es uno de los destinos preferidos en el Caribe. En un pedacito de muelle ahora puedes disfrutar de un paseo en el Amazing Grace, un velero del mismo tamaño de la Niña, el barco usado por Cristóbal Colón en su primer viaje a América. En esta excursión experimentas en un viaje marítimo con vistas increíbles del Viejo San Juan mientras una narradora te deja sorprendido con la historia, cultura y arquitectura que reúne los fuertes y edificios que observas. Definitivamente te hacen sentir que exploras un tesoro de forma divertida. La guía mostró mucha pasión
en lo que hacía y realmente capturó toda la atención de la tripulación durante todo el recorrido. Nos contó desde los conquistadores, los edificios históricos y hasta sobre el récord Guinnes que hay en el Viejo San Juan, el cual es la casa más pequeña del mundo. También aprendimos que La Fortaleza es la única mansión del gobernador que todavía sigue en uso y hasta pudimos escuchar los cañones que usaron los conquistadores en el pasado. Old San Juan is full of history and a peculiar Spanish magic that enchants even the most demanding visitor. This small part of our capital receives thousands of tourists that arrive on cruise ships making it one of the preferred destinations of the Caribbean. artistas e historiadores, hemos conocido seres hermosos que han hecho de este viaje la experiencia más transformadora y enriquecedora de nuestras vidas. Nos han ofrecido hospedaje, comida, aventuras, historias, información y lo más importante de todo, su amor. A través de todas estas conexiones, hemos logrado ir a lugares y tener experiencias que jamás nos hubiésemos imaginado. Desde subir al Cerro Norato en Utuado un día nublado gracias a la ayuda de la familia Diaz Jiménez, conocer por primera vez La Silla de Calderón en Adjuntas junto a nuestros anfitriones Jochi y Marielisa, llegar a la impresionante cascada La Vieja en Ponce junto a nuestro guía ponceño Lucas Gerardo, practicar el cañonismo en La Garganta del Diablo en Peñuelas con el grupo Canyoning Puerto Rico y Del Sur Adventures, hasta toparnos con las vistas impresionantes del Barrio Jagua Pasto en Guayanilla gracias a la recomendación de nuestro nuevo amigo Héctor Nieves, la gente sin duda alguna ha sido un elemento crucial para nosotros hacer lo que hacemos.

Mientras continuamos en nuestro viaje y vamos profundizando en nuestro propósito, unas preguntas se responden y preguntas nuevas surgen. ¿Cómo es que con tantos recursos
Cuando originalmente me propuse la idea de #OneIslandOneJourney, mi propósito era bastante simple, quería viajar en mi propia tierra, conocerla mejor y conectar profundamente con ella. A la vez, quería servir de instrumento para que los puertorriqueños reconozcan lo que tenemos, se enamoren de nuestra hermosa naturaleza y se inspiren a conocerla y cuidarla. Me interesaba mucho, además, demostrar que no necesariamente tienes que viajar a otro país para tener esas experiencias transformadoras y mágicas que usualmente asociamos con un lugar lejos y extranjero. Con esa simple meta, el 26 de noviembre del 2015 me lancé en esta aventura junto a mi compañera de vida, videógrafa y musa, Bárbara Cruz. Luego de tan solo tres meses de viaje y nueve municipios visitados, hemos visto como nuestro propósito inicial no tan solo se ha ido cumpliendo, sino que ha evolucionado a algo aún más profundo y significante.

naturales y humanos, aún no existe una infraestructura eco-turística sustentable en nuestra isla? Si cada pueblo tiene tanto por ofrecer como hemos evidenciado en tan solo tres meses ¿Cómo no hemos aprovechado para promoverlos y así crear una fuerte economía local?

A la vez que nuestro país va atravesando momentos difíciles y buscando nuevas maneras de mover la economía, nosotros vamos experimentando de primera mano una de muchas posibles soluciones como es la creación y fomentación de una industria de turismo ecológico y consciente a nivel isla. ¡Recursos hay de sobra!
Si algo siento en cada pueblo que visito, en cada río que me baño, cada cima que alcanzo y en cada alma que me encuentro, es la esperanza de que vivo en una isla de infinito potencial y posibilidades de transformarnos. Este sentimiento se hace aún más fuerte cuando veo con mis propios ojos que la gente que forjará el nuevo Puerto Rico ya está trabajando fuerte hacia eso.

When I set myself the goal I called #OneIslandOneJourney, my purpose was a simple one. I wanted to travel my own country, get to know it better and achieve a deep connection with it. I also wanted to serve as an instrument for my fellow Puerto Ricans to get them to recognize what we have, to fall in love with our amazing beauty and to inspire all to want to get to know it well and to become better stewards of our lands and waterways. I am very interested in proving that to achieve magical and transforming experiences we don't necessarily need to travel to far away countries, we can get that all right here. With that as my intent, I dove into this endeavor assisted by my life companion and inspiration, the videographer, Bárbara Cruz on November 26, 2015. After only 3 months of travels and 9 municipalities visited, not only have we seen our initial goal met but, an evolution to something more meaningful and deep has blossomed. These travels are not only designed to connect with nature, we also are creating connections with our people. In every single town we have visited we have found the warmth and sense of kinship that is characteristic of Puerto Ricans. Farmers, teachers biologists, adventurers, artists and historians, we have met beautiful people that have made of this undertaking the most transforming and enriching experience of our lives. We have been offered shelter, food, more and different adventures,

stories, invaluable information and most importantly, their love. Through these connections, we have been able to go to places and have experiences that we had not even imagined, like going up the Norato Mountain in Utuado on a cloudy day with the help of the Diaz Jiménez family, see for the rst time the Silla de Calderón in Adjuntas with our hosts Jochi and Marielisa, get to the impressive waterfall La Vieja in Ponce with the expert guidance of Lucas Gerardo, practice Canyoning at the Devils Throat (La Garganta del Diablo) in the town of Pueñuelas assited by the Canyoning Group of Puerto Rico y Del Sur Adventures and, thanks to the recommendation of our new friend Hector Nieves we were able to see the splendid views at Barrio Jagua Pasto in Guayanilla. People have been, without a doubt, the most crucial element that enables us to do what we do. As we continue our journey and becoming even more committed to our purpose, new questions and are answered and even more questions arise: How is it that with such an abundance of natural resources and talented people we still don't have a sustainable eco-tourist centered infrastructure developed on our island? If every municipality has so much to offer, as we have been witness of, how is it that we haven't taken steps to promote all of this to create a strong local economy? Puerto Rico is going through very difcult times and our people are striving to nd ways to develop and strengthen our economy.

These travels have allowed us to see rsthand possible and powerful solutions to these scal issues such as the creation and promotion of a eco tourist industry. We have the resources! With every town I visit, every river I dive into, every mountain I climb and every person I meet, hope grows in my mind and soul because we live on an Island of innite potential and the possibility to transform our future. This hope becomes even stronger when I see the people that will forge the new Puerto Rico and are working hard to get there. Want to see what I am talking about? El estadounidense Evan Thompson y Chelsea Roe de Barbados, se coronaron campeones de la edición número 29 del Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit O'Neill Series, celebrado recientemente en la Playa Domes en Rincón. Otro de los destacados fue Asher Nolan de Estados Unidos y la puertorriqueña Alexis Engstrom, en la rama masculina y femenina respectivamente, se convirtieron en los ganadores del Circuito 2015-2016. Al evento asistieron sobre 64 profesionales surfistas nacionales e internacionales. Según Ariel Avilés, productor del evento, “El nivel de competencia, la entrega de cada uno de los surfer, y la fanaticada que se dieron cita en la playa Domes, durante estos tres días, demuestra el nivel de de profesionalismo de este evento de gran magnitud. La fanaticada pudo disfrutar de una competencia de altura y de un ambiente único al estilo de Corona Extra”.

El Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit es el único evento de surfing profesional calificado dos estrellas más grandes en Puerto Rico y en toda el área del Caribe. La próxima edición del evento está programada a llevarse a cabo en el mes de octubre de este año, dando inicio lo que será el circuito 2016-2017. “Nos llena de mucho orgullo ver el desarrollo de cada uno de los participantes y el nivel de profesionalismo del deporte de surfing en Puerto Rico. Más nos enaltece, el contar con el apoyo de los fanáticos del sur. Esto demuestra, que Puerto Rico es la meca del surfing en todo el Caribe”, señaló Joseph Magruder, director de Corona en Puerto Rico. De igual manera, esta edición del Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit O'Neill Series implementó el programa, Corona SunRise Save the Beach, que presta atención al medioambiente y cuyo propósito es proteger y restaurar las playas alrededor del planeta. Con el apoyo del equipo de trabajo, voluntarios y el público, la Playa Domes se mantuvo en óptimas condiciones durante la celebración y posterior del evento.

Puerto Rico and USA Champions of the Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit Evan Thompson (USA) and Chelsea Roett (Barbados), won the championship of the 29th Edition Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit O'Neill Series that took place at Domes beach in Rincón. Other extraordinary performances were done by Asher Nolan (USA) and the Puerto Rican Alexis Engstrom in the masculine and feminine categories respectively. They all became the winners of the 2015-2016 Circuit. More than 64 professional local and international surfers were part of this event. Ariel Avilés, the producer of this event said, “The high level of competition, the dedication of each of these athletes and the great amount of fans that assisted to these competitions throughout the 3 days they took place are an illustration of the quality, professionalism and great reach that this event has. The fans were able to enjoy the highest level of competition and the unique ambiance provided by Corona Extra.” The Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit is the largest and only professional surng event with a two star classication in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. The next edition of this event is programmed to take place in October of this year which will begin the 2016-2017 circuit. Joseph Magruder, Corona Puerto Rico Director said, “We are very proud to see the superb development of each of the athletes and the professional level of the Puerto Rico surng sport. The southern fans solid support makes our commitment even more powerful. This shows that Puerto Rico is the Caribbean Mecca of surng”. During this particular edition of the Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit O'Neill Series the Corona SunRise Save the Beach program was implemented. Its purpose is to protect and restore beaches all around the world. Staff, volunteers and the general public helped to keep the Domes beach in optimal conditions, during and after the event in Rincon.

El Programa Bandera Azul Internacional actualmente cuenta con la participación de 49 países y con más de cuatro mil quinientas playas y marinas que son reconocidas por cumplir con los requerimientos de calidad de agua y servicios. En Puerto Rico, la Organización Pro Ambiente Sustentable (OPAS), es la que administra el programa de certificación como representantes únicos de la Fundación de Educación Ambiental (FEE, por sus siglas en inglés). Esta nueva temporada 2015 2016, la cual comienza durante el mes de noviembre, se certifica por primera vez con la Bandera Azul a Playita Rosada, parte de la Reserva Natural La Parguera en Lajas. Quiero resaltar que Playita Rosada se convierte en la segunda reserva natural en el Caribe y en todo el Hemisferio Occidental con este galardón; siendo la primera, Playa Pelicano en la Reserva Natural Caja de Muertos en Ponce. Además de Playita Rosada, la playa de la Isla de Palomino en Fajardo administrada por el Hotel El Conquistador, también logró certificar por vez primera con este galardón, convirtiéndose en la primera playa Bandera Azul administrada por un hotel en Puerto Rico.

The Blue Flag Beaches are getting ready for summer The Blue Flag Certication is is a highly respected and recognized international eco-label. Blue Flags are awarded to beaches and marinas that meet strict criteria for water quality, general public access infrastructure, environmental education, environmental management, and safety and services. There are more than four thousand ve hundred beaches and marinas that are recognized by The Blue Flag International program for their compliance of quality of water and services. In Puerto Rico the OPAS (Sustainable Pro Environment Organization) is the body that manages the certication program as sole representatives of the FEE. This new season 2015-2016, that starts during the month of November, Rosada Beach, part of the Natural Reserve of La Parguera en Lajas has been certied with Blue Flag for the rst time. Rosada Beach has become the 2nd natural reserve in the Caribbean and in all this hemisphere. The rst one of Pelican Beach at the Caja de Muertos Natural Reserve in Ponce. Palomino Island's beach at Fajardo which is managed by the El Conquistador Hotel, has also obtained this certication for the rst time, becoming the rst hotel managed beach to receive this recognition.

The following beaches and marinas have been recertied as Blue Flag for the 2015-2016 season: Punta Salinas beach, Toa Baja, Seven Seas beach, Fajardo, La Monserrate Beach, Luquillo, Sun Bay Beach, Vieques. Managed by the National Park Program now assigned to the Sports and Recreation Department: El Escambron Beach, San Juan, Carolina Beach. Both of these are managed by their respective municipalities, Pelicano beach at hte Caja de Muertos Natural Reserve, Ponce also managed by the DRNA (Department of Envirionmental and Natural Resources). The marina that has been recertied is Puerto del Rey, Fajardo. Since 2004 the Blue Flag Program has had the invaluable support and incontional colaboration of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. The decor is like what our grandparents would have. As you rest you are served a cup of coffee grown on the same lands you just rode through. Hace unos meses atrás tuve la oportunidad de hacer una aventura de ziplines con El Gran Batey Tours en Utuado. Una experiencia inolvidable para mí. En esta ocasión fui a conocer una nueva aventura que tienen a cargo y se trata de pasear a caballo por la Hacienda Horizonte, ubicada en el mismo pueblo.
Al llegar nos dieron la oportunidad de escoger los caballos y yo escogí a Palomo porque es un caballo blanco hermoso, aunque me dijeron que es el más difícil para controlar. Sin embargo, al final creamos una hermosa conexión y además resultó ser fotogénico. Tanto Jorge como su compañero, quienes fueron nuestros guías, contestaron todas nuestras preguntas. La excursión fue divertida, tiene unas vistas increíbles y la experiencia es mágica.
En el recorrido hay gran abundancia de árboles de china y fue muy especial cuando cortaron una del árbol y nos las dieron para comérnosla. Me llevé dos adicionales porque eran dulces y creo que posiblemente las mejores chinas que me he comido en mi vida. En la Hacienda Horizonte también cosechan café el cual tuvimos la oportunidad de probar cuando terminamos la excursión. Te invito a que vayas y quizás hasta tengas la misma suerte que yo de conocer al dueño de la hacienda, nada más y nada menos que Robi Draco.

Horse riding at Hacienda Horizonte Some time ago, I had the chance to live the adventure of zip lining through the Gran Batey Tours in Utuado, a highly unforgettable experience. This time, the adventure was a beautiful horse ride at the Horizonte Hacienda in the same town. The views we got to see were incredible and the experience was magical. Upon our arrival we were told to choose the horses we wanted to ride. I chose Palomo, a white, beautiful horse. I was told that he was the most difď€ cult to control but, in the end, a great friendship was born between us, and besides he was very photogenic. The tour was a lot of fun. Jorge and his co-worker were our guides and answered all of our questions. As we rode, we noticed that the place is full of orange trees and the guides cut some down so we could taste them. I took 2 more myself because they were sweet and probably the best tasting oranges I've had in my life. At Horizonte Hacienda they also grow coffee, and we had the chance to drink some at the end of the tour. When you come here, I hope you have the same luck I had and get to meet the owner, the singer songwriter Draco.

GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Tore Verde’s “Monster” The new attraction at Toro Verde is “El Monstruo” (the monster) in Orocovis was recently certied by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ as the longest zip line in the world. This zip line is 7,234 feet long and approximately 1,200 feet high. Close to the restaurant we can see a suspension bridge that will lead you to the main tower of the ride, once there you go up some stairs towards the exit. At this point you will be briefed on all security measures and how to position yourself on the zip line. La laguna es uno de los dos únicos reservorios naturales de la Isla (el otro es la Laguna Tortuguero), y es el hogar de una amplia variedad de especies. La laguna está conectada al océano a través de un pequeño canal en el sur de la misma. Esta reserve está protegida por el Departamento de Recursos Naturales.

Get to know the Joyuda Lagoon The Joyuda lagoon is a natural water reserve that is home to a great number of marine organisms and a variety of ecosystems. It is located in the municipality of Cabo Rojo in Puerto Rico. This lagoon is one of only two natural reservoirs on the island, the other one is the Tortuguero lagoon. Many species of plant and animal have made their home there. The Joyuda lagoon is connected with the ocean through a small channel on its southern portion and is protected by the Department of Natural Resources.

próxima aventura, la Bahía Luminiscente de La Parguera por medio de Johnny's Boats que fue nuestra transportación. Esta bahía luminiscente es 1 de 5 que hay en el mundo brillando a través de todo el año. Puerto Rico tiene 3 de ellas, Jamaica y las Maldivas tienen solo una en cada uno. Como ven, nuestra Isla está bendecida con ésta tan hermoso fenómeno en tres lugares a la vez.
Nuestro destino fue el oeste de Puerto Rico. Nosotros, el grupo de InstaWest deleitamos nuestra vista con el mar y su esplendor al quedarnos en el Rincón of the Seas. Nuestra misión, explorar y disfrutar de todas las aventuras que pudiésemos aguantar. Primero, Maricao, pueblo montañoso en el centro de la Isla. Allí un Jeep nos llevó al Salto Curet, una caída de agua en el medio de la nada, tal y como me gusta. Al llegar, nos tiramos al agua como si fuéramos unos chiquillos para disfrutar de la frescura de sus aguas. Luego, fuimos a lo que considero mi favorito, La Parguera. Como había hambre, hicimos una parada necesaria en el Restaurant Isla Cueva donde probamos de todo, hamburguesas hechas allí mismo, mozzarella sticks y mi preferido, tacos de pescado. Al terminar de comer seguimos hacia nuestra

Pa r a l l e g a r a l l í , p a s a m o s p o r manglares e hicimos una parada para disfrutar de un atardecer único. Hubo que esperar que oscureciera completamente para seguir ya que solo se aprecia esta bioluminiscencia en la completa oscuridad. Al caer el sol, procedimos hacia la bahía y comenzamos a agitar el agua para ver la luz azulosa que se produce en ella. Se nos prohibió tirarnos al agua por las lociones y maquillajes que nos ponemos para proteger a los organismos que producen las luces. Al siguiente día nos fuimos para Rincón, que tiene las mejores playas para practicar el surfing en Puerto Rico. Nuestro destino fue la playa Steps, una reserva marina, donde hicimos snorkeling. Más tarde fuimos para la Plaza del pueblo donde disfrutamos de vegetales orgánicos, música y comida criolla. También traté de aprender paddle board pero confieso que todavía me falta mucho. Al hambre apretar pasamos al restaurante Brasas, en el Rincón Beach Resort donde comimos carnes,
InstaWest Por Roberto Moreno mariscos entre otras delicias. Yo probé varios tragos a manera de i n ve s t i g a c i ó n p a r a p o d e r informarles sobre los mismos. Después de esa magnífica cena nos dirigimos a la playa y nos pusimos creativos con la fotografía, jugamos ajedrez con unas piezas gigantes al lado de la piscina y todo esto sirve para dar una escapadita a la realidad por un ratito. We, the InstaWest crew delighted our eyes with the magnificent view of the ocean on the western side of Puerto Rico. We stayed at the amazing Rincón of the Seas - Grand Caribbean Hotel. Our mission was to explore and enjoy all the adventure we were able to handle. First off was a trip to the mountainous center of the Island to the town of Maricao where we arrived by jeep and went to a water fall called Salto Curet, a pristine area in the middle of nowhere, just how I like it, and we jumped in the natural pool like children enjoying the cool fresh water. Next, we went to what I consider to be a personal favorite, La Parguera. Being hungry we stopped at a family owned restaurant called Isla Cueva and there we tried everything, homemade hamburgers, mozzarella sticks, and my preferred dish, fish tacos. After filling our bellies, we proceeded to our next adventure, the famous bioluminescent bay at La Parguera. Johnny's Boats was our transportation and we were informed that this bioluminescent body of water is 1 of 5 that exists in the world and that glows all year round. Just so you know, Puerto Rico has 3 bioluminescent bodies of water, Jamaica and the Maldives have only 1. We are very blessed to have this beautiful natural phenomenon happening in 3 places in our territory. On our way there we went through mangroves and made a stop to observe a one of a kind sunset waiting for complete darkness to go on to the bay. Darkness is needed to be able to see the glow that the microorganisms produce in this bay. When darkness was complete we moved on towards the bay and started stirring the water to stimulate the glow and it looks like a blue flame just under the surface of the water. Because of the all the stuff we put on our bodies, such as make-up, lotions etc. we are not allowed to jump in the water so as to protect the organisms that produced the lights. The following morning we went to Rincon, the town that has some of the best surfing beaches in Puerto Rico. Our destination was Steps Beach in Rincon a marine reserve. There we went snorkeling, a great visual experience and afterwards we headed towards the town plaza to enjoy some homemade food, organic vegetables, local musicians and more. I also tried to learn to paddleboard but, I suck at it. Maybe someday... That night, hunger made us go to Brasas Restaurant. It is located at Rincon Beach Resort premises. We had meat, seafood and more. I tried different types of cocktails; this is what I call research so I can inform all of you of these findings. This being our last night, we headed to the shore after the spectacular dinner, and started getting creative with photography, played chess with a huge chess set by the pool and all of this is a great way to escape from our realities for a little while. We want to thank the staff that made us feel great and at home while we were there. un país que te revela el alma uando se me informa que iba a l a I n d i a ya t e n í a m i equipaje hecho. Había visto tantas cosas interesantes sobre la India a través de programas de televisión como National Geographic entre otras que la noticia me tenía extremedamente contento. Fui invitado a visitar el país por el M.R.C.S. Pandey, el director de el 100 Mile Stage Race y ministro de turismo. Al llegar a este hermoso país viajamos desde Nueva Delhi hasta Agra y por supuesto me llevaron al Taj Mahal. El guía fue nos dejó saber lo que nos esperaba. Luego de una breve parada para comprar los boletos, la guagua nos llevó al Taj Mahal, la cual fue construida en el 1632 y dedicado a su esposa Mumtaz Mahal. En el camino vimos carruajes con camellos y

caballos. Un vez allí, nos dirijimos al mausoleo y no podía dejar de estar completamente fascinado con el lugar. Saqué mi cámara y como un típico turista comenzé a tomar fotos hasta que recapacité, bajé la cámara y comenzé a observar todo lo que había ahí con mucho detenimiento, absorbiéndolo todo. Este lugar estaba lleno de historia y fue construido sobre una base de amor, honor y lealtad. La próxima parada fue el fuerte del emperador Shan Jahan Agra. Al siguiente día vistitamos Qutub Minar donde que tiene un monumento a Mahatma Gandhi pero su cuerpo no está allí ya que la religión Hindu cree en la reencarnación y los cadaveres son cremados. Por último, nos llevaron a Darjeeling y allí nos llevan al zoológico que estaba lleno de animales fascinantes.
Despues fuimos de compras aprovechando las gangas que se consiguen allí. La última parada fue al templo buddista de ese pueblo que fue donde bendijeron a Tenzing Norgay, la primera persona en el mundo que subió el monte Everest. Vivir esta experiencia en la India me cambiaron de una manera fundamental y pude descubrime nuevamente en ese lugar. Logré concienciarme de lo magnífico que es nuestro mundo y tuve el privilegio de exponerme a diversidad de culturas y religiones. Podría llenar resmas de papel escribiendo sobre este viaje y de las personas maravillosas que llegué a conocer. Ud. lector, no deje de visitar la India y descubre tu alma a través de esta cultura y su gente. Namasté.
India a place to discover your soul
When I was told that I was going to India I already had my bags packed. I have seen so many amazing images of India in NatGeo, BBC, and other channels. I was super excited that I was invited by the M.R. C.S. Pandey Director of the 100 Mile Stage Race and the Ministry of Tourism of India and I was very grateful for the invitation. After arriving at this beautiful country, my rst trip was travelling from New Delhi to Agra and of course I was taken to the Taj Mahal. The tour guide was very good and on our way there he explained what we were to expect. We made a short stop to buy tickets, they took us on a small bus to the Taj Mahal that was constructed in 1632 and dedicated to his wife Mumtaz Mahal. On our way there we saw carriages with camels and horses and so much more. Once there, we went to the Mausoleum and I could not get enough of this place. I took out my camera and like a typical tourist I started shooting everything I could but then, I came to my senses and started carefully observing all the details, people that were there. The place has an amazing history of how it was built inspired by honor, love, and loyalty. Afterwards we were taken to the Emperor (Shan Jahan) Agra fort that was mentioned for the rst time in 1080AD. The next day we visited Qutub Minar where the rst mosque of India was implemented, Mahatma Gandhi's Monument his body is not here because Hindu religion believes in reincarnation and they cremate their dead. At the end we went to Darjeeling. Once there, we were taken to the zoo and we saw all types of animals it was astounding. Afterwards, we went shopping and enjoyed bargain prices on the things we bought. Then we went to see the Tea elds. Last but, not least, we went to the Buddhist Temple where Tenzing Norgay, the rst person in the world to climb Mt. Everest, got his blessing before climbing the mountain. India, and all these magnicent places we saw changed me and made me discover myself. This trip made me become aware that our world is great. I had the privilege to learn about other cultures, religions, etc. I could write volumes of the impressive sights and wonderful people I met. You need to travel to India and discover this wonderful culture and its people for yourself. Namaste

A la misma hora que le toca brillar la bahía bioluminiscente en la Parguera, nos vamos en busca de otro paraíso submarino. ¿Te atreverías a bucear de noche? Una vez cae el sol, mientras muchos de ustedes duermen o “janguean”, otros organismos despiertan, especialmente si buscas debajo del mar. Langostas, pulpos, caracoles, corales y hasta algunos peces toman otra vida más activa de lo usual que durante el día. La mayoría en busca de comida. Los pulpos por ejemplo salen de sus escondites y con sus

tentáculos están de cacería. Los corales y algunas anémonas también extienden sus tentáculos por la noche para lograr atrapar pequeños organismos llamados plancton. Mucho de ese plancton también se puede ver, ya que les atrae la luz de las linternas que se usa para el buceo nocturno. Si con cuidado alumbras de cerca una anemona o coral, podrás ver como se dan un banquete con el plancton atraído por la luz. Con otros animales, como las tortugas y los peces cotorros, hay que tener más cuidado pues están descansando y no los queremos molestar. La bioluminiscencia también brilla en las profundidades, solo que no

con la misma densidad que en la bahías. Apaga las luces por lo menos por 5 minutos y comienza agitar el agua para hacerla brillar. Pero no dejes de mirar al arrecife que de vez en cuando verás otros organismos brillar. Y si buceas bajo luna llena, casi no necesitas linterna para bucear. De los lugares más buceados de noche en Puerto Rico lo son Crash Boat y el Natural en Aguadilla y el Escambrón en San Juan. Para los más atrevidos pueden salir en bote hacia los arrecifes de Guánica y Parguera, sin duda una experiencia única. ¡Coteja bien con tu tienda de buceo más cercana si estás preparado para una aventura nocturna bajo el mar!

At the same time the bioluminescent bay at La Parguera starts to glow, we are in search for another submarine paradise. Do you dare scuba dive at night? At sundown, while many of you sleep or hang out, other organisms come alive especially under water. Lobsters, octopuses, crustaceans, coral, and even some sh will become more active at night. Most are in search of food. For example, octopuses leave their lairs to hunt. Corals and some anemones also stretch their tentacles trapping small organisms called plankton to feed themselves. These plankton are attracted by the light used for night diving so you may get to see them. If you carefully illuminate close to an anemone or coral you may get to watch them gorge on the plankton because of the effect light has on it. Be careful with other animals, like turtle and parrot sh, because they are resting and we wouldn’t want to disturb them. There is bioluminescence in the deep too, just not as dense as close to the surface. Turn off the ashlight for at least 5 minutes the start stirring the water and watch it glow. Keep your eyes on the reef because once in awhile you can see other organisms glow as well. If there is a full moon during your dive will hardly need the ashlight. The most frequently visited areas for night diving are, Crash Boat, el Natural at Aguadilla, en Escambrón at San Juan. For the more adventurous, try going out to the reefs in Guánica and La Parguera, you will have a very unique experience. Check with your local scuba store to verify that your ready for a nocturnal adventure under the sea!
