DR TARITA SHANKAR FOUNDER SECRETARY & CHIEF MANAGING TRUSTEE SHREE CHANKYA EDUCATION SOCIETY CHAIRPERSON, INDIRA GROUP OF INSTITUTES, PUNE

MESSAGE From Group Director’s Desk Dear students, As you are aware, we have just begun to acclima ze to the changes that our economies and socie es have undergone due to digital technologies. Ar ficial Intelligence is taking over rou ne informa on and manual tasks in the workplace. Decision makers have to put addi onal emphasis on quali es that differen ate human workers from AI — Crea vity, Adaptability and Interpersonal skills. Its a beau ful metaphor for the fact that no ma er how advanced our AI may be, Crea vity and Innova on are merely non-programmable skills. We s ll need an innova ve engineering mindset to make judgments and cri cal decisions. At Indira College of Engineering & Management (ICEM), we develop the key elements of the innova ve engineering mindset in our students, i.e. curiosity, discipline, experimenta on, problem solving and how to use wri ng and math to think deeper about challenges you face. All this environment is supported by our enthusias c and intellectual faculty team to make your learning be er and worthy. My best wishes to you and let ICEM show you the way how innova on will enable you to take advantage of the tremendous opportuni es in the new economy.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Mechanical Engineering is a diverse area that brings many disciplines of engineering together. Mechanical engineering ge ng the exposure centers crea ng technologies to meet human needs. Virtually every product or service in modern life has probably been touched in some way by a mechanical engineer to help humankind. Mechanical Engineers create sophis cated computer control robots, design ships and aircra s, design industrial plants and specialized devices for disabled people, study fluid flow pa erns, develop advance technology to protect environment and more. Many innova ons crucial to our future will have their roots in the world of mass, mo on, forces and energy – the world of Mechanical Engineers.

MECHANICAL SANDWICH The department of Mechanical Engineering has started an innova ve, industry oriented undergraduate program in ‘Mechanical Sandwich’ in the year 2013 which provides hands on training along with academic curriculum. The syllabi for this program is framed with a view to impart sound prac cal knowledge and industrial skills to help students in their professional career and entrepreneurial ventures. Student spends one out of year in industry and gets exposure to various Industrial prac ces and Manufacturing Processes. Sandwich Students Undergoing Industrial Training As per the syllabus of Savitribai Phule University, the course is designed such that the students will get the industry exposure with understanding of day to day working, ge ng exposure to various func ons of industry as design, manufacturing processes, quality control and tes ng of products, learning professional communica on etc. Students have to appear for one-year industrial training during their second semester of third year and first semester of fourth year.
