Starting over again can sometimes be a difficult thing to do, especially when you don’t have all of the answers you feel you need to be successful. One of the most rewarding things we can do for ourselves is to simply, get started. Having faith in yourself and God is also an important factor. I am reminded by the words from a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King that said, “Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” That’s exactly what we are doing with The Praise Reporter News Magazine as we return, re-launch, and renew publication in Columbus,
the city where we originally began. We return with new management, new support staff, new thoughts and ideas and a renewed spirit of our motto, “Sharing Good News about Great Communities.” We are optimistic in believing that our returning to the city of Columbus, Ohio and its surrounding areas will reach more people, not just in the faith-based community but also families, businesses and organizations that continue to desire positive narratives and antidotes for life’s daily experiences. “Renewal requires opening yourself up to new ways of thinking and feeling” Looking forward to serving you! The Meals that Kill
BY CAMELA L. DOUGLASS, M.S. ED., C.P.T. It is inevitable that everyone will die one day. Human beings are mortal. Everyone is subject to death. Many have asked, “when will I die?” According to the bible, “the years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty..” (Psalm 90:10). Then the follow-up question is, “how will I die?” Even with cancer, murder, and vehicular deaths on the rise, people have more control over “the how and when” than they realize. There’s a preventable method of dying that has increased at a substantial rate over the past few years: eating too much! Americans are dying at an alarming rate from overeating. Most would rather sugar coat this statement because it’s too hard to grasp that someone can actually die from eating too much. Therefore, if you want to put a little sugar on it (which is in itself unhealthy), it is politically correct to say that people are dying from obesity-related complications. A prime example of the effects of this epidemic is the increase in the eating of junk food. Grab bags of chips, sodas and candy bars are stocked at every

checkout line, vending machine, and corner store. Eating junk food alone is one of the main contributing factors to the development of certain cancers. However, when you eat a poor diet, you severely impair the body’s ability—its immune system—to fight off toxins and diseased cells. As a result, those cells can become cancerous. It’s just like playing dominos without a winner. Eating too much of the wrong foods lead to obesity, obesity leads to other medical conditions such as heart problems, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Unfortunately, these conditions can ultimately lead to a preventable death. Therefore, overeating is literally killing people. See MEALS, on page 11

The World Famous Harlem Globetrotters Coming to the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio December 29 The Harlem Globetrotters will take place at the Schottenstein Center, at 555 Borror Dr, Columbus, Ohio. Next performance is on December 29, 2016. Gates typically open two hours before the event start time. Gate opening times are subject to change so please clarify before heading to the venue. The Harlem Globetrotters exhibition team was formed circa 1926 in Chicago and made their big debuts in the Negro American Legion League under the name of “Savoy Big Five”. They performed exhibition games before dances. Sports promoter Abe Saperstein bought the club soon after its
formation and renamed it the Harlem Globetrotters. The early Harlem Globetrotters found a modest amount of success in professional basketball. In 1939, they faced up with the other major all-African American team of the time, the New York Rens. Though the Globetrotters lost during that particular game, the next year they came back and won, and then went on to win the World Professional Basketball Tournament against the Chicago Bruins. Health Care from page 7 Fewer Insurance Companies Available Aetna, United Health Care, and In Health Mutual are no longer available for individual plans in the Ohio, on or off the Marketplace for 2017. If you have any of these carriers, you must enroll in a new plan before December 15th to have coverage in January. If you do not re-enroll, the Marketplace will automatically enroll you into the next comparable plan. Plan Changes – Limited Access to Hospitals in Networks Most plans available will be HMO plans (in-network benefits only) and will greatly reduce the number of hospitals available in-network. Premium Subsidy Update If you are receiving a premium subsidy from the Marketplace and your income
has changed, you must contact the Marketplace to update your subsidy amount. If your income increased, you may have to refund a portion of the subsidy received when you file your 2016 income tax or if your income decreased, you could be eligible for a larger subsidy. Special Enrollment Period Remember, if you lose coverage or have a life change, you have 60 days before and 60 days after the change to acquire new coverage. If you miss these dates, you would have to wait until the next Open Enrollment. With all these changes, you need a professional insurance broker to help you navigate these important health care choices.
