BETHESDA CHRISTIAN CENTER'S NEW LOCATION:
A SERVICE OF BLESSING!
Bishop Brehon Hall, D.Min., Guest Speaker
Local Pastors invoking blessings upon Bishop Holt By Sheila Howard An experienced Minister and Community Leader, Bishop Marjorie Holt, Ph. D. got her second wind as Pastor at Bethesda Christian Center. Wearing a shirt that proudly proclaimed “Believe it or not, I was made for this,” on July 21, 2019, Bishop Marjorie Holt opened the new doors of Bethesda Christian Center and invited the people to come and “Experience something different!” The air was filled with excitement and anticipation as congregants entered
the beautiful, new facility that will undoubtedly serve as grounds for the saving of many. Bishop Holt has worn many hats in the City of Toledo ranging from Social Worker, to Talk Show Host to Professor, just to name a few. Dr. Holt founded Bethesda Christian Center over 23 years ago. After a hiatus, the church is back but not with a ‘business as usual’ attitude. Bethesda embraces the concept of Next Level Ministry and with vigor and excitement, they have plans and a vision to move higher. “We’re back! This is next level; next level with Him. God
said, ‘It won't be like it was.’” decreed Bishop Holt with grace, authority and spiritual boldness. Guest Speaker, Bishop Brehon Hall shared a well-received message entitled “Whose House is this?” “God says: ‘I will build a church.’ They should not hear you, they should hear the God coming out of you. God came back and got Dr. Holt because God always finishes what He starts!” declared Bishop Hall. Bishop Hall and several local pastors and clergy prayed and performed a See BETHESDA, on page 3

Students protesting segregation at the lunch counter of the Woolworth’s in Greensboro, North Carolina. Photo: Library of Congress Blacks have always been at their best when America has been at its worst. Her culture of comfort has made it easy to be “Colored People,” and it has been easy not to be black. Historically, blacks have been at their authentic best when we faced our greatest danger. We don’t need the storms to go away as much as we need strength to face the storm. We endured 247 years of brutal slavery, another 100 years of racial segregation and discrimination, the raping of our women at will, and the lynching of our men at whim. I don’t believe in integration (assimilation) or segregation. I do, however, believe in separation. Segregation means that I am subject to the will of others. They decide where I can and cannot go, what i can and cannot do. It is what others have chosen for me. Separation, on the other hand, is what I chose for myself; where I want or go, where I want, or do not want, to live, who I want or do not want to associate with. White and back churches are separated but not necessarily segregated. Separated churches reflect the history and culture of their members. They never deny others the
right to attend, or join their numbers, but the mood and the manner of the worship reflect the history and culture of those who attend those churches. Black churches usually hold longer, pray longer, sing longer, and preach longer. The first time I was invited to preach at a white church in Nashville, Tennessee, I remember leaning over and asking the preacher how long was I expected to preach. He said, “Oh, Floyd, you can preach as long as you like, but we go home at 12:00.” The service began at 11:00 A.M.. Instead of fighting for integration (assimilation) we should have been fighting for desegregation and equality. We should have been fighting for equal rights, equal schools, and equal opportunities in business, sports, and everything else American. All of the civil rights bills were designed, not for the benefit of blacks, but for whites. Blacks always knew that they had a right to ride anywhere there was an empty seat on the buses; the whites didn’t know it, that is why the bus driver told Rosa Parks to give up her seat to a white man. That is why the police offer was called, and
Mrs. parks was arrested. The Judge didn’t know it, that is why she was fined, and that is why there was a bus boycott for 381 days, and a Supreme Court ruling that segregation in public transportation was unconstitutional.. We always knew we had the right to eat a hamburger and hotdog at lunch counters in department stores across the country; that is why several , Carolina, and risked jail, humiliation, and beatings by whites who didn’t know it. We always knew that we had the right to vote; that is why we risked life and limb in every part of the south to cast our votes, but whites didn’t know it; that is why Jimmy Lee Jackson, James Reebs, and Viola Liuzzo were killed, and Lyndon Johnson signed the 1965 Voting Rights bill on August 6, 1966. Bishop W. T. Myers Receives Master of Theology Degree! By Interfaith Gazette Staff Recently Bishop W. T. Myers, Bishop Extraordinaire and Presiding Prelate over the Holy Spirit Apostolic Church, committed to his life long dreams and goals that he made to himself many years ago as a young man, that he would accomplish what he set out to do ACADEMICALLY. And he did just that. In 2017, Bishop Myers enrolled in Lourdes University where he studied and received his Bachelors degree in Religion. With the pursuit of achieving higher, he did not stop there and went on to complete his Master's degree this past July. In December of last year, Bishop Myers passed the mantle to one of his spiritual sons, Elder Jerome Strong, and daughter, Evangelist Deborah King, Assistant Pastor, to continue the vision at the Holy Spirit Apostolic Church. Many of us remember Bishop Myers as the humble giant who pastored his churches with diligence and commitment to serve God and his people in an exemplary
manner. Well, Bishop Myers did not stop at pursuing excellence just in a spiritual manner, he superbly personified that in his journey to achieve academically as well. When asking others to speak about him and his perseverance and endurance, one person stated: What can I say about this man? He is a giant in so many ways and a true gem to the Body of Christ, case closed, hands down! Well, it is apparent that Bishop Myers has made his mark in a world where all things, no matter it's origin, can rise at any level that is chosen and ascribed to. We congratulate Bishop Myers and his accomplishments. Receiving a Master's degree cannot be achieved without the tenacity and commitment to complete it. We pray God's blessings upon you as you continue to pursue your next encounter upwards. We know that your present level of achievement has only positioned you to continue as you have stayed the course.
Bethesda from page 1 dedication over Bishop Holt and Bethesda Christian Center. Conveniently located in Pavilion Plaza, Bethesda Christian Center is set up to serve the many needs of the community – both spiritually and naturally. The facility boasts of 17 rooms including several offices, a Dining hall, Prayer room, Guest Pastor Study, Next Level Board Room, Private Dining, Music, Arts & Drama Office, Elders Office, Community Outreach Office for Community Partners, and even an Exercise room called appropriately the “Move it, Lose it Fitness Suite,” that encourages people to practice self-care of their temples. The church also has a Marketplace Ministry Corridor where parishioners can find a wide range of Christian books and literature, t-shirts, hats and jewelry, and purses. The church
is also available to accomodate special celebrations and conferences for ministries in need of space. While she serves the community in various capacities, her service as pastor is where she believes God has ordained her to preside. Bishop Holt addressed the congregation: “My shirt says believe it or not I was made for this. God has taken good care of me because I'm doing what He's called me to do. I wouldn't want to do anything else. God said, ‘For this season, the calling is on your life and you were made for this.’” Bethesda Christian Center is located at 5967 Telegraph Rd. Services are held on Sunday’s at 11:00 A.M. and Tuesday’s at 7:00 p.m. and are open to all to come and experience this NEXT LEVEL MINISTRY!

shared the importance of meal prep and the benefits of juicing. Preparing meals in advance saves times, money, controls hunger and removes temptation to eat something unhealthy. Juicing can reduce your risk of cancer, boost your immune system, help remove toxins from your body, aid digestion and aide in weight loss. Sheila provided fresh green and carrot juice samples. The audience was surprised to discover how delicious the juices were. Andre Gaston, Certified Personal Trainer of HIT Body By Dre shared the importance of exercise. Physical exercise provides energy, reduces the risk of many diseases like cancer and cardiovascular diseases, and improves quality of life. Many people are intimidated about working out in a gym while others just don't know how to start. No one begins a fitness lifestyle as an expert. Andre encouraged the people by letting them know they can begin a regimen from right where they are. He shared simple exercises - lunges, push-ups and jumping jacks - that
Our bodies are temples, gifts from God. We only get one. It is up to us to honor our temples through our actions - how we treat it and how we feed it. Even when we have faith and pray for wellness and healing, there are certain works that need to be done on our end. Eating the wrong foods and living a sedentary lifestlye won't allow the opportunity to live and be our best selves. Health, Fitness and Wellness require something of us. Bishop John Williams and River of Life Church caught this vision wholeheartedly and hosted "Health and Fitness Day." Three health and fitness experts dispensed vaulable knowledge to an enthusiastic and receptive audience. After losing 160 pounds and adopting a fitness lifestyle, Sheila Howard (She Jag) is known in the Health and Weight Loss Community as a Fitness Influencer. Sheila
Sheila Howard and Participant can be done at home. Andre demonstrated safe ways to perform the exercises that would yeild the most benefits. Registered Nurse Zion Williams provided information concerning the necessity of Preventative Testing and Screenings. The audience was enlightened about the most common illnesses that are preventable and how they can be managed. Our community
sufffers greatly from diabetes, obesity and heart disease - all illnesses that can be decreased with proper diet, exercise and with the abstinence of smoking tobacco. Zion demonstrated the simplicity of health screenings by performing typical health screenings on volunteers for Blood Pressure and Diabetes.

Local Congregation Loses It's Church To Fire!
Former Faithway Church By Interfaith Gazette Staff When one passes down Nebraska Avenue, it was all too familiar to look to the right and left and see the former Faithway . C. O. G. I. C. trimmed in blue at the doorway that served to welcome its attendees. On Saturday, the one phone call that any Pastor or its congregation never wants to
receive, Pastor Williamson received to the chagrin of its worshippers. The church was on fire. Many have stated that they believe that it was arson, which would be hard to live with in that the church had become such a light and fixture in that Nebraska corridor. The entire building was destroyed. When speaking with residents surrounding the church, they were in dismay at losing the
church because the members had served as a beacon, as well as a friendly reminder of what we have all been called to do, be kind to each other. Pastor Delbert E. Williamson stated that the church will not be discouraged and will rebuild right where it went up in ruins. The community is praying for the recent Now
Faith Worship Center, who changed it’s name awhile back. A FUNDRAISER is scheduled for August 18th at Indiana Missionary Baptist Church at 5 PM. All are welcomed as the community comes together to support, pray, and bless this congregation.
