Jose Quiroz Yanez dreamed of college while living in Guanajuato, Mexico, but never considered it more than a dream because of his family’s financial struggles. After moving to Longmont with his mom and two younger siblings when he was 9, he began to believe the opportunities here would give him a real chance to be the first in his family to go to college. Now, as a member of the secgram, he’s headed to Harvard ond class graduating from SkyUniversity in the fall with a fullline High School’s P-TECH pro- ride scholarship.

Through the P-TECH, or Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools, program,

Quiroz Yanez has already earned an associate’s degree in computer science along with his high school diploma. But he still wants a traditional college experience — and his plans include going far beyond an associate’s degree. In his first year at Harvard, he wants to explore some of his passions, including film. His second year, when Harvard students declare their concentration, or major, he plans to start preparing for medical school. He wants to specialize in neurology. Please see YANEZ, 12
