Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette

The mission of Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette is to provide, promote and protect access to sexual and reproductive health care.

was a year with many challenges and many new opportunities for growth, including an expansion of services. PPCW’s commitment to provide and expand health care to Oregonians and SW Washingtonians is stronger than ever.

This year, we expanded services to include hormone provision to transgender patients in Salem and introduced PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis), for people with clinically identified risk factors for HIV to help prevent HIV infection. In addition, we recently began providing telemedicine, which is a service where a PPCW clinician provides a medication abortion to a patient via video conferencing (known as TeleMAB). The use of telemedicine will create greater access to medical abortion appointments

when availability is limited in certain health centers — especially in rural areas. This is an exciting first step in telemedicine services at PPCW. In July, PPCW elected Sita Symonette, the first queer woman of color, as the Board Chair— a first in its 54 year history. Symonette’s priorities are to continue to guide board leadership in our mission of providing, promoting and protecting access to sexual reproduction and health care, and to uphold our Equity Plan by making sure that all people have access to high-quality health care, which is so important for all underrepresented communities.

PPCW underwent a change in leadership in 2017. Stacy Cross, former President and CEO, moved to become President and CEO of Planned

Parenthood Mar Monte, the largest Planned Parenthood affiliate. Stacy led PPCW through four remarkable years and left the organization in a strong position. During the search for a new CEO, Anne Udall was hired as Interim President and CEO. Anne brings a strong background in non-profit leadership and has been leading the organization with a steady hand.

The Beaverton Health Center added two additional exam rooms to their location. The renovation of this health center included a new and more efficient use of space, the addition of a community room and enhanced security features.

PPAO was instrumental in the passing of the Reproductive Health Equity Act in Oregon, which allows for more services (including abortion) to be available at no cost for patients who do not qualify for CCARE or Medicaid due to their citizenship status.

At Planned Parenthood health centers, our focus remains on making high-quality and affordable health care accessible to all people, regardless of gender, race, or the ability to pay. We are excited about the future!

Our continued collaboration with political partners, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon (PPAO) and Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest is vital as they fight to keep Oregon and Washington among the most progressive states in the nation for reproductive rights. Last year,
