HEATHER

Best known as the former chief medical correspondent for ABC News, Dr. Jennifer Ashton is a nationally-recognized physician credentialed in nutrition, obesity medicine, and gynecology. After 17 years, she recently left the television spotlight to direct her attention to her new role as founder and president of Ajenda, a platform focusing on weight management, women’s health, and nutrition. Since launching in 2024, Ajenda has built a highly engaged community of over 200,000 subscribers, marketed a best-selling wellness program, and become a trusted destination for expert-backed content on women’s health. Its flagship newsletter reaches hundreds of thousands of readers each week.

Dr. Ashton was the first woman—and only the third physician—to hold the position of chief medical correspondent for ABC. For four years, she was the co-host of GMA3, the third hour of Good Morning America. Since joining ABC in 2012, she has reported on a full range of medical topics, including the maternal mortality crisis, mental illness and suicide, and heart disease. When the coronavirus pandemic began, Dr. Ashton became fully immersed in the fields of infectious diseases, public health, and epidemiology, and began daily communications with leading experts in order to provide Covid-19 analysis for the American public. She visited the CDC headquarters, was invited to the Vaccine Development Lab at the NIH by Dr. Anthony Fauci, and met with members of the Coronavirus Task Force at the White House.

Dr. Ashton is a graduate of Columbia College, Columbia University, and Columbia Medical School, where she was awarded the prestigious Bartelstone Award for her achievements in pharmacology. She is board-certified in both OB-GYN and obesity medicine, is a four-time Emmy® Award winner for her work in medical reporting, and received the Alfred I. duPont Award for Excellence in Journalism. She is also the recipient of the prestigious John Jay Award, given to distinguished Columbia College alumni for professional accomplishments, and the American Heart Association’s Woman of the Year Award for her advocacy in women’s health. Dr. Ashton is the author of six books, including the national bestseller, “The Self-Care Solution,” as well as “Life After Suicide,” and “The New Normal.”

The mother of two children, Dr. Ashton lives in New York City, Los Angeles, and Boston with her husband, television producer and chairman/ co-owner of Fenway Sports Group, Tom Werner, and their dog, Mason.

Dr. Jennifer Ashton

What prompted you to depart from your successful career at ABC News to start Ajenda?

After 12 years at ABC News, with seven as chief medical correspondent, I wanted to devote myself to the medical specialties in which I am board-certified: OB-GYN and obesity medicine. The topics of menopause and weight management are the two most significant subjects in the US right now, with GLP-1 medications and menopause awareness dominating the conversation. I also hold a master’s degree in nutrition, and knew I could use my 17 years of experience on national television to communicate critical information to women in an impactful manner.

There’s a saying that I think of often: a big message needs the right messenger. The issues of menopause and weight management are certainly big issues now, and I want to help be a good messenger for the millions of women who want to and need to know more about both, for the sake of their health and vitality. Your “Cooler Moments” campaign is bringing menopause into the spotlight. Why do you think the subject has become less taboo and more openly discussed in the last few years?

I think it started with celebrity power. When numerous celebrities went public with their menopause stories, it began to normalize and destigmatize something that happens to all women who live to midlife. This is long overdue. One recent study revealed that 82% of women experience hot flashes during menopause, 46% of women said hot flashes affected their work, and many are unaware of the numerous treatment options (both hormonal and non-hormonal) that exist. “Cooler Moments” is an effort that educates and empowers women to speak up and put themselves first during this natural change in our lives. As part of this informational platform, you can see videos where I debunk myths about menopause, break down the

science, and teach women how to advocate for themselves when it comes to hot flashes and night sweats due to menopause. I am excited for the “Cooler Moments” platform to help inspire conversation. We should be encouraging one another to share our experiences and discuss how we, as women, can continue to live the life we want to live, even in the face of hot flashes due to menopause. What’s your honest take on Ozempic and other weight loss drugs?

These drugs are not new, though their popularity and mainstream use is. The first GLP-1 was FDA approved to help manage Type 2 diabetes in 2005, and we’ve long known that they are associated with significant weight loss. My honest take is that while every drug can have side effects, some of them serious, obesity has risks that exceed those generally associated with these medications. However, these are powerful medications and thus, their use needs to be supervised and managed by a physician who is well-informed about their actions, risks, and benefits. Their cost and availability need to improve, and doctors need more education about how to best use them. I think their use and popularity has helped to destigmatize weight issues, but there is still a long way to go. I often say, if someone has high blood pressure or depression, they should treat it: obesity should be no different. With a comprehensive approach, one that incorporates attention to food, fitness, behavior, and the use of FDA-ap-

proved medication, obesity can be aggressively treated and significant improvements in health can be achieved. Can you share a little bit more about your Wellness Experiment and why it is becoming so popular?

I saw gaps in how women were approaching their health and wellness in midlife: maybe they were getting information from menopause experts about hormones, but they were missing out on the nutrition and fitness aspects, or vice versa. I wanted to connect the dots, in a way that integrated hormones with health, weight management with wellness, and food with fitness. After I shared my own six-month wellness experiment on Instagram, my followers asked me to put together a program anyone could follow. That is how The Wellness Experiment was born: created out of a sense of curiosity about what is possible in terms of vitality, health, and fitness. I partnered with professional trainer Korey Rowe, and built a three-part program that gives a daily and weekly nutrition, fitness, and wellness system. With meal plans, recipes, grocery lists, workouts and the medical science behind various critical health topics, the program has been followed by over 10,000 women (and men). The results have been incredible!

In what aspect of your life do you feel most powerful?

As a mother, hands-down. Raising my two incredible children is the single greatest focus and role I have in life. They have actually taught me more than I have taught them, but I still put this title first and foremost in my mind. After motherhood, I feel most powerful as a doctor, as a communicator of medical information, and as a healer. I am 56 and at this point, I have experienced the best and worst moments of life, hard work in my career, and personal and professional accomplishments. I feel incredibly lucky, but also excited about new challenges.

FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE CULINARY STAGE

The Remarkable Journey of Cathy Huang of Pearl East

Before she became a celebrated figure in the Long Island dining scene, Cathy Huang began her journey as a high school teacher in Taiwan. In 1973, she immigrated to the United States with nothing but grit, talent, and an unshakable determination to build a better life.

Reinventing herself entirely, she was accepted into the prestigious Manhattan School of Music as a piano performance major—an extraordinary leap that would set the tone for a lifetime of resilience and reinvention.

Together with her late husband, she co-founded Peking House, one of the first upscale Chinese restaurants in the region. Long before “fusion” and “elevated” became buzzwords, Peking House redefined Chinese cuisine for a new generation of diners. It would later become the birthplace of Pecking House, the viral fried chicken sensation launched by her son, Eric.

In 1998, her life took a tragic turn when her husband passed away in a car accident. Left widowed and raising two children on her own, she stepped up with quiet strength, eventually taking over Pearl East Restaurant in Manhasset. Under her leadership, Pearl East has become a cherished staple of Long Island—a beloved local institution frequented by celebrities like Sarah Silverman, comedian Alan King, Congressman Steve Israel, former Mets pitcher Carlos Santana, former corner back of the NY Giants Perry Williams, and sports announcer Howie Rose.

Both of her children inherited her tenacity and talent. Her daughter Roslyn, a Juilliard-trained professional violinist, now runs two successful music schools in Manhasset and Syosset called Pluckd Studio. Eric, a cellist-turned-chef, trained at the Culinary Institute of America, became a sous chef at the world-renowned Eleven Madison Park—where he helped the restaurant earn its title as the number one restaurant in the world—and now owns the wildly popular Pecking House, which exploded during the pandemic with a 10,000-person waitlist.

From teaching to mastering music and running landmark restaurants, Cathy has spent a lifetime creating beauty, excellence, and opportunity for her family and her community. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance—and the incredible legacy one woman can build.

The greatest gift we can give is knowledge. Teaching and mentoring are essential tools for building a better future. When we share our experiences, both successes and failures, we create stepping stones for others to follow. But, mentorship is not just about teaching- it also has a ripple effect. One conversation can spark an idea. One piece of advice can prevent a costly mistake. One connection can open doors you didn't even know existed.

That's exactly why we created the P.O.W.E.R. Mentor pages. This dedicated space on our website makes it simple to either find a mentor or to become one. If you are in need of a mentor, you can choose from dozens of women in a variety of fields to help you in your journey. And if you've climbed the ladder in your industry? We need your expertise. Your experiences – yes, even the mistakes – could be exactly what another member needs to hear.

Remember, mentorship isn't about having all the answers. It's about being willing to share your journey, your insights, and yes, even your setbacks. Sarah Warden EDUCATOR Top

Lead Preschool Teacher

Little Hills

Learning Center

Sarah Warden is the lead preschool teacher at the Little Hills Learning Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri. She was inspired to become a teacher while working with her church’s preschool program, seeing the joy and wonder on children’s faces as they learned new things and accomplished things they never thought possible. Sarah received her associate degree in Child and Family Development from St. Louis Community College in 2023. Her philosophy is that all children are gifted, they just open their gifts at different times.

Who is your role model?

My role model is my mother, who not only worked in special education for over 30 years, but put herself through graduate school while raising both my brother and me. What advice would you give women entering your field?

twice as much as you talk. You will be surprised by what you learn. What are some of the biggest challenges/obstacles you faced in your career?

That each child is unique and to celebrate and embrace their differences. Also remember to listen

The biggest challenges and obstacles that I have faced in my career are when I have had to help families realize that their child may not be the child that they envisioned having. I tell them that it is all right because the child that they have been given

will give them blessings that they could only imagine.

What goals do you hope to achieve?

My professional goals for this year include creating and implementing a new preschool curriculum and making sure that my students are ready to start kindergarten in the fall.

How do you achieve work/life balance?

What advice would you give to your younger self?

That it is always darkest before the dawn, and even when it’s dark out, there are always stars to guide you.

Name one strategy that has helped you get ahead.

What book is on your bedside table right now and why?

I achieve a work/life balance by reminding myself that it’s alright to feel what I am feeling and to give myself grace when I need it. But most importantly to remember that yesterday has already happened and it can’t be changed, that today is over and tomorrow can be better. I also allow myself to go on long walks and reflect and process what has happened so that I can learn from it and not let it define me.

What do you do to escape and recharge, even for a few hours?

I read, work out, play with my kitties, and I love to bake. I go for long walks and enjoy what is before me, I read a good book, or I cook or bake something.

That the best thing that I can do is to remember two things. The first is that I am given the responsibility of helping these children remember that they are all gifted in their own special way, and my job is to give them the tools to use those gifts when the time is right. Second, to give each child wings and roots. Wings to soar as high as they can and roots to always remember where they came from.

“The Unfit Heiress,” by Audrey Clare Farley. It not only shows the strength and courage of a woman who faced struggle at a time when she wasn’t even allowed to vote, but also shows how she did not let her voice be silenced and eventually became a voice for others. What does empowerment mean to you?

Empowerment means lifting others up and being a role model, someone who rejoices in others good luck and good fortune and who genuinely wants the best for others.

Elaine L. Chao

Elaine L. Chao is a trailblazing example of the American Dream. An immigrant who initially struggled to fit in, she went on to serve on the United States Cabinet. She is the first Asian-Pacific woman to serve as a cabinet member, having held both the Secretary of Labor and Secretary of Transportation positions. Beyond her tenure in government, Elaine has also held prestigious jobs in the private sector, worked for charitable organizations, and served as a board member for several nonprofits.

Born in Asia, Elaine immigrated to the United States as a young child and was naturalized as a teenager. As the oldest of six children, Elaine felt an early pull to leadership and has carried that attitude into her professional life. She used this motivation to pursue her undergraduate degree in Economics at Mount Holyoke and then earn her MBA from Harvard Business School.

Following her early career in the private sector, Elaine transitioned to public service working on transportation and trade issues at the White House. She was promoted in rapid succession to deputy maritime administrator for the U.S. Department of Transportation, chair of the Federal Maritime Commission, and deputy secretary for the Department of Transportation. She was confirmed to her first period as Secretary of Transportation under George H.W. Bush in 1989. Beginning in 1991, Elaine served as head of the Peace Corps, where she launched aid programs in the newly liberated Baltic nations following the collapse of the U.S.S.R. Her dedication to social welfare then led her to the United Way,

Former Secretary of Labor, Former Secretary of Transportation United States Government

where she served as president. During this time, she worked to improve the organization’s public image after a period of financial mismanagement.

Elaine was confirmed as the Secretary of Labor in 2001 under President George W. Bush. During her eight years as Secretary, Elaine focused on increasing the competitiveness of the American workforce in a global economy and set new records for workplace health and safety. Notably, Elaine was instrumental in passing the Pension Protection Act in 2006, thereby ensuring the retirement security of 44 million American retirees.

After another stint in the private sector, Elaine was named Secretary of Transportation in 2017. She cites her response to the COVID-19 pandemic as a point of pride. Elaine prioritized maintaining functionality and infrastructure, keeping America’s transportation efforts safe and moving, while ensuring that truckers and other drivers had access to sufficient resources during this critical time.

Elaine’s momentous journey from humble beginnings to holding multiple positions in government is a wonderful example of the American Dream at work. Her dedication to leadership and service can serve as an inspiration for women, but particularly those from immigrant families struggling to envision their futures in a new country. Elaine’s advice to those following in her footsteps is simple, but profound; “Be curious. Be helpful. Understand the big picture and your little part in it.”

How has your upbringing as an immigrant to the United States shaped your approach to leadership, particularly in advocating for other underrepresented groups?

I immigrated to America at eight and didn’t get my citizenship until I was 19 years old. Learning a new country’s history, traditions, and culture consumed my early years. I wondered if I would ever find my place in America. This sense of being an outsider, the anxiety of trying to fit in, and deep sense of vulnerability helped me be a better leader. I advocate for those who don’t have a voice and are trying to find their place in America. Asian culture teaches me to be a good listener, to be aware of what others are feeling. These are good leadership skills. You have been the “first” in many of your roles. What gave you the courage and confidence to push through these barriers?

I didn’t think I was courageous or confident. Indeed, it was very lonely much of the time. But I just had to do what I had to do – be a pioneer for others, forge new trails, and empower others behind me to contribute to improving our world. I wanted to make my parents proud of me, because I saw the hardships and sacrifices they endured to make a new life in America.

Ultimately, it was also because I loved what I was doing. I loved endeavors

which I felt had purpose, that improved the lives of people and contributed to society. That gave me the energy to forge ahead and not be discouraged or give up when there were obstacles in my path, as there always are in life.

Having worked through major crises such as Hurricane Katrina and Covid 19, can you share what you have learned about the importance of good leadership during these difficult times?

Leaders make a difference, especially in a crisis. Decisive, empathetic, innovative, courageous actions make a difference. Experience helps. Experience hones the leader’s skill sets. Looking back at your career, what are you most proud of and why?

I feel blessed, fortunate, and privileged to have accomplished so much for our country. I am proud to be the first woman or Asian American leader (or both) in most of the positions I’ve held in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, including as the first female and AANHPI director of the Peace Corps and president and CEO of United Way. I was the first Asian American woman ever to be appointed to the cabinet when I became Secretary of Labor. I am so happy that I was able to pave the way for others and make people’s lives better.

I am proud of my work in establishing Peace Corps programs in the newly independent states of the former Soviet Union, including in Ukraine.

I’m proud of the Department of Labor’s fast action in helping to distribute hundreds of millions of dollars to workers displaced by the attacks of September 11, 2001. We also helped residents of New Orleans and evacuees of Hurricane Katrina, providing much-needed employment displacement services, supplemental income, and unemployment insurance.

I am proud of my work in helping to pass the Pension Protection Act of 2006, which ensures the long-term pensions of 44 million Americans.

During COVID, my decisive actions helped to keep the transportation system safe and moving, thus ensuring store shelves were stocked with needed items during lockdown.

What advice would you give to minority women starting a career in government?

Love what you do. Have confidence in your abilities and instincts and have the courage to speak out. Pay attention to interpersonal interactions. In a big bureaucracy, building relationships and developing an informal information network are key to being effective and getting things done.

What does power mean to you?

Power means attaining the ability to do what you think best, including how you serve others. Power means being able to do good and contribute to society. www.elainechao.com

With over three decades of experience, Cyndi has helped thousands of professionals launch and grow successful travel businesses through her signature programs, certifications, and industry-leading resources. Her mission is to empower the next generation of travel experts to thrive while inspiring them to explore the world with purpose and passion.

What made you create Wanderlust Campus, and what sets your training apart from other programs out there?

I created Wanderlust Campus because I saw a major gap in the travel industry. Too many passionate people were starting travel businesses without the right support, systems, or mentorship to succeed long-term. I knew I could change that. What sets us apart is our holistic approach: we combine mindset, marketing, and mastery-level business training with real-world travel industry know-how. We don’t just give our students tools; we walk with them every step of the way to help them build a portable and profitable business that fits their dream lifestyle.

In the age of the internet many people believe they can plan their own travel. Why do you think travel agents are a better way to plan a trip and why is being a travel agent still a lucrative career?

With so much information online, planning a trip can quickly go from exciting to overwhelming. That’s where travel professionals shine. We bring expertise, insider access, and personalized service that Google simply can’t match. Plus, we know how to navigate the unexpected—that’s priceless. As for the career itself? It’s incredibly lucrative when

done right. This industry allows you to create income on your terms, work from anywhere, and build a business around your passion. Travel isn’t going anywhere—and neither is the need for trusted advisors who can turn trips into once-in-a-lifetime experiences. What are the safest Caribbean islands to visit right now?

The Caribbean is full of incredible destinations, but right now, islands like Aruba, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, and Turks and Caicos are leading the pack when it comes to traveler safety and overall experience. These islands have stable infrastructures, strong tourism policies, and beautiful, welcoming cultures, making them fantastic choices for both first-time visitors and seasoned travelers alike.

If you could hop on a plane to anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Right now, Bali is calling my name. It’s the perfect blend of spiritual serenity, natural beauty, and creative energy. The culture, the people, the food, it’s all soul-fueling. Plus, it’s a place that reminds me how important it is to pause and connect, not just with the world, but with yourself. What does power mean to you?

To me, power is alignment. It’s the ability to live your truth, use your voice, and create impact while staying rooted in your values. Real power isn’t about control, it’s about freedom. The freedom to design a life and business that lights you up and to empower others to do the same.

Book early (or be flexible):

Consider shoulder season travel:

Late May and early September offer the perfect sweet spot: great weather, thinner crowds, and often lower prices. Plus, many destinations still offer full access to tours, restaurants, and cultural experiences without the summer rush.

Pack smart:

Summer travel often means lighter clothing, but don’t forget a versatile layer or two. And always leave a little room in your suitcase for souvenirs or last-minute essentials.

Living the Story: The Inspiring Journey of Diane Merrill Wigginton From Ranch Life to Award-Winning Author

Diane Merrill Wigginton was born in 1963 in Riverside, California, and raised in the lively neighborhood of Mira Mesa in San Diego County. Her childhood was filled with imagination and adventure—especially during summers on her grandparents’ ranch in Idaho, where she developed a love for animals, nature, and storytelling. These early experiences planted the seeds for a lifelong passion for writing.

In 1998, Diane married David L. Wigginton III. They lived in Encinitas, California, for three years before the two of them, with kids in tow, packed up and moved to a quiet, rural property in Herald, California. Their 5½-acre ranch became home to their growing family of six children. It was here that Diane raised goats and had a beehive, an orchard, and a garden, but between raising kids, working full-time, and managing the demands of daily life, Diane’s dream of writing had to be placed on hold—but never forgotten.

At the age of 49, with her children mostly grown and time finally on her side, Diane turned her attention back to her creative roots. She began writing in earnest and soon published her first novel, “Angelina’s Secret,” the debut in her Jeweled Dagger Series, at the tender age of 50. The book was well received and marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life; one as a published author. Diane’s work spans multiple genres, including historical romance, suspense, and children’s fiction. Her ability to bring characters to life with emotional depth and compelling storylines has earned her a devoted readership. Among her published works is “The Secret of One-Eyed Cogburn, The Dreaded Pirate Captain,” her first children’s book, which showcases her playful and imaginative side.

Her talent hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Diane has earned eighteen book awards, including the Benjamin Franklin Digital Award and Reader’s Favorite 1st Place Historical Fiction Award. In 2017, Diane received the “Most Inspiring Author Award” from International Writers Inspiring Change for her Jeweled Dagger Series, which she is quite proud of.

Her newest release, “The Magician Killer,” a romantic suspense novel, has earned high praise from The Wishing Shelf, which lauded it as “A smartly plotted thriller with a strong female protagonist to root for, and [they] highly recommend it!”

In 2018, Diane and her husband retired and relocated to Kalispell, Montana. Surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Glacier National Park, they embraced a slower pace of life filled with hiking, exploration, and outdoor adventure. The natural wonder of their

surroundings continues to inspire Diane’s writing as she now works full-time as an author and publisher.

Now a proud grandmother of eleven, Diane balances her writing life with her deep love for family. Her stories often reflect the values she holds dear—resilience, connection, and the strength of the human spirit. Her journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the idea that it’s never too late to follow your dreams. With every new book, Diane Merrill Wigginton brings passion, heart, and imagination to the page, inspiring readers of all ages.

Diane’s best advice is “It’s important to follow your dreams. Don’t let the naysayers discourage the vision you have for your brighter future.”

BoBBie Kristine Carlyle

Bobbie Kristine Carlyle is a sculptor located in Loveland, Colorado. Worked in bronze, her sculptures range in size from small pieces suitable for tabletops to outdoor installations larger than eight feet high. Bobbie is best known for “Self Made Man,” depicting a man carving himself and his future from the raw stone from which he emerges.

The essence of Bobbie’s sculpture is captured in the phrases “bold strength” and “provocative intelligence.” Her subjects range from figurative to liturgical, wildlife to western, all executed with imagination and vitality. She excels at getting to the crux of the moment, the inspiration behind the idea, and presenting that in her own dynamic way. Bobbie’s compelling figurative work carries a strong psychological element, dealing with the full spectrum and complexity of emotion, the struggles and triumphs of life.

Bobbie received her B.A. in Fine Arts from Brigham Young University. During that time, she was also raising seven children, who continue to serve as inspiration for her art today. She has studied under many of today’s notable artists and takes influence from Leonardo Bistolfi, Solon and Gutzon Borglum, Daniel Chester French, and Michaelangelo. The result is a style that ranges from clas sical, to art nouveau, to contemporary, and is always distinctive, dynamic, and compelling.

With three decades as a sculp tor under her belt, Bobbie has

NONNA GLEYZER

“World’s

Best Pilates Instructor” -Forbes

Often referred to as “the body stylist” and a “wizard,” Nonna Gleyzer has transformed, sculpted, and fine-tunes some of Hollywood’s most beautiful physiques. She has spent over 20 years innovating and taking the Pilates method to the next level, creating custom-tailored sessions for clients that restore both their physical and mental health.

After a career-ending injury forced her to stop her competing with the Ukrainian national gymnastics team, Nonna took her love for the human form and earned her BA in Physiology. She was then trained and certified by Romana Kryzonowka, known fondly as “The Grande Dame of Pilates,” and began her practice specializing in preventative injury and rehabilitation.

Nonna has since spent decades in Los Angeles healing everyone from Gisele Bundchen, Tom Brady, Madonna, Sting, Samuel L. Jackson, and Natalie Portman and has been featured in top publications including the New York Times, Vanity Fair, Marie Claire, Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Shape, Women’s Health, and People for her knowledgeable and intuitive approach to body work. In November 2008, she opened her unassuming and ultra-private Pilates studio on the Sunset Strip, Body by Nonna, as a haven for her clients.

Aside from her private clients, Nonna’s philanthropic nature has driven her to volunteer as a rehabilitation and strength trainer for the Israeli Olympic Gymnastics team as well as the Chaka Khan Foundation, where she has assisted at-risk youth that showed athletic potential.

Her studio welcomes women, men, and younger adolescents alike. As she tells many of her clients who are also parents, training with Nonna is an incredible tool to help children and young adults grow their body to become more strong and flexible, a great investment for their future health.

How does it feel to be recognized by Forbes as "The World's Best Pilates Instructor?"

It’s an absolutely incredible honor and a responsibility I don’t take lightly. This recognition motivates me to grow and improve every single day. Helping people heal and transform their bodies into vibrant, healthy versions of themselves is my passion before it's my profession.

I founded Body by Nonna in November 2008, and since then, I’ve been continuously inspired to evolve as a sports medicine professional, teacher, and body healer. This journey has humbled me deeply and made me endlessly grateful for everything I have. I immigrated to America as a refugee in 1990, during the collapse of the USSR and the Perestroika revolution. Because of that, I carry immense gratitude for the opportunities I’ve been given, especially the chance to help others heal, thrive, and live their best lives.

In what ways has your childhood as a gymnast on Ukraine's national gymnastics team shaped the way you train people today?

Being a gymnast on Ukraine’s national gymnastics team taught me incredible precision and discipline. It helped me become deeply aligned with my own body—and gave me the tools to tune into my clients’ bodies as well. That experience allows me to think outside the box when it comes to training the human body.

Every person is different, with unique strengths and areas for growth. I take a highly personalized approach to training, thinking specifically about what each individual needs. When a client walks into my studio, I begin by evaluating their body alignment and create a program designed just for them—one that supports their goals and helps them become

stronger, healthier, and more confident from the inside out.

You've built a great reputation with stars in Hollywood. What do you think draws celebrities to train with you?

I think outside the box for my clients. Creativity is something I deeply value not just in how I live, but in how I approach the body. I use my anatomical knowledge in creative ways, just as my clients use their own creativity in their lives and work. It’s a powerful exchange.

People come to me because they know I don’t just sculpt bodies; I help heal and prevent serious injuries. I don’t see the body only through the lens of a trainer, but also through the eyes of a medical professional. With a background in sports medicine and osteopathy, my approach is both different and deeply informed. My goal is always to find the root cause of pain or imbalance so I can not only heal it, but prevent it, while simultaneously sculpting and strengthening the body.

When training adolescents, what do you see as the biggest mistakes parents make in relation to their children’s fitness?

What I often see is that some parents push their children too hard. Children are still developing, and it’s absolutely crucial to train them with great care to avoid injuries, especially to the spine. Overtraining or putting excessive stress on a young body can have serious consequences, including weakening the immune and nervous systems.

That’s why it’s so important to train children intelligently and intentionally. They need a strong, proper foundation, one that supports their physical growth without compromising their health. My approach always prioritizes long-term well-being over short-term results. The topic of menopause is becoming more publicly relevant. How can Pilates help women going through this stage in life?

When women go through menopause, many tend to gain weight around the waist and stomach. One of the core focuses of Pilates is strengthening the abdominal muscles without placing stress on the joints or spine. In fact, there are over 500 abdominal and oblique exercises that can be performed just on the reformer.

Pilates is the ideal workout for women in menopause because it’s gentle on the joints while effectively targeting the core. From my personal experience as a 53-year-old woman going through menopause, I can confidently say that Pilates has been essential in strengthening my lower abdominal muscles and pelvic floor.

At any age, Pilates helps women reconnect with their bodies and build awareness. It’s not just physical, it’s also meditative. The breathing and stretching components offer deep relaxation, making Pilates both a physical and emotional reset

When do you feel the most powerful?

I feel most powerful when I’m helping someone heal their body and make a positive impact on their life. Healing people from the inside out is my calling, and I’m deeply grateful to have discovered this purpose at a young age. Every opportunity to guide someone toward transformation fills me with gratitude and reinforces my commitment to this path.

Kathryn B. Shorey-Munro is the owner of Shorey and Associates, an insurance and investment services agency.

Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in your field?

I was working in the insurance industry where I met my future husband who was well-established in the industry. He taught me to always expand my knowledge; through his encouragement and support he became my inspiration and my rock in the business.

Patricia Kness

PHow do you empower other women?

Through conversation and sharing. I explain that no one is born successful, success is achieved.

Building our self-confidence takes time and effort. You should treat customers as you want to be treated, listen, and always ask questions.

atricia Kness is a painter who works in both oils and watercolors. An artist for over 50 years, Patricia has produced hundreds of works, ranging from a series of twenty-minute paintings of apples, to portraits, landscapes, and acclaimed still-life flowers. Her winning portrait was exhibited in the Philadelphia Museum of Art for the month of May 1993. What advice would you give to women entering your field?

What advice would you give others entering your industry?

I would tell them it is a competitive, male-dominated industry but it is still open to any person who is well trained, has an abundance of product knowledge, and is willing to compare the competition’s products and admit when their product doesn’t fit.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I will continue sharing my successes and failures with women who want to be independent.

Get your degree in marketing. Keep good records of who purchased what, with a photo, date, and price. Do what you love. Do not copy even your photos, make it yours. What strategies have helped you succeed in your work?

I don't know if I ever felt like I succeeded; there is so much more I want to do. Never stop learning, studying, and looking. By looking I mean study the sky, notice the color of winter trees, the warm tones, and the cool tones. Name one of your professional goals.

I am looking for gallery representation to exhibit my art. www.patriciakness.com

Virginia Klinger

Virginia Klinger transformed her love for driving and her heart for people into a successful car service serving Northfield, Minnesota and the surrounding areas. With a storied career that spans 17 years behind the wheel of semi-tractor trailers, a year of navigating Greyhound buses, and a tenure transporting highly-classified cargo for government-contracted missions, Ginny’s life has been paved with diverse roads.

While approximately 75% of her fares are airport-related, she said 15% of her business involves driving for special occasions, like weddings. The remainder of her time is spent driving customers to appointments around town.

Klinger said she enjoys talking with her customers, if that’s what they want to do during the 45-minute ride to or from the airport or shorter rides around town. She said she always knows by their body language if they’d prefer to read or nap.

Klinger said she has to be available all the time, since the job has no set hours. Same goes for the weather. “I drive in rain or shine, even blizzards,” she said. “The only time I have refused booking a ride was during an ice storm.”

How did you get started in your field/industry?

Taking one family law case while practicing insurance defense. One case turned into 75% of my practice over a four-year period, so I switched practice areas. What are some of the biggest challenges/obstacles you faced in your career?

and learning how to use my personal background story as a way to connect with clients without triggering old wounds.

What do you feel are some of the biggest challenges that women face today?

Being the only female attorney at an all-male firm; having male attorneys constantly ask if I was the court reporter;

conflict. Rebecca enjoys spending time with family as well as riding and caring for horses. What are some of the biggest challenges/obstacles you faced in your career?

Taking care of people was innate and natural for me. To help a person at their most vulnerable time was simple. I soon learned my co-workers felt very differently about nursing. For me, it was not just a career or a well-paying job, but who I was. Many others felt that nursing paid the bills. Few knew nursing is a calling.

Being treated as an equal by male counterparts, having other women who have made it up the corporate ladder treating women as an equal rather than a threat, finding supportive mentors, and balancing family and career. What does the word power mean to you?

Influencing by action, not words. www.cgblawfirm.com

What do you feel are some of the biggest challenges that women face today?

The best nurses in my life are those who defend patient care over a position or title. It is difficult to lead with heart. If a woman has lost the desire to care for others, she has lost the innate purpose that sets us apart from men. What does the word empowerment mean to you?

To be set apart. To be refined. To be clothed with purpose and resilient. To reflect the goodness and righteousness of God.

You can’t be a leader without being a follower first! Everything is a process. Faith without works is dead. Work smarter, not harder.

A great business isn’t built in a day. Love yourself even when you fall. We make mistakes so that we can learn from them. Also, even when you feel like you’re by yourself, God always has your back. What book is on your bedside table right now?

“Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale” and my planner. Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in your field?

I assist women that need help with childcare, employment, and self-esteem issues- like if they are a good mom. I provide resources that I am sure help other women.

This initiative, launched at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, focuses on improving compliance with SEP-1 metrics, enhancing provider education, and optimizing documentation practices to prevent delays in care. Through Crush 33™, Dr. Roberts has led the development of performance dashboards, sepsis journals, competency assessments, and staff recognition campaigns such as “Sepsis Slayers,” helping clinicians respond swiftly and effectively to one of the leading causes of in-hospital mortality. In recognition of her work, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp awarded her a proclamation for Sepsis Awareness Month in September—an honor that reflects the statewide impact of her efforts.

In addition to her clinical innovation, Dr. Roberts is the creator and author of the Whimsky Works Skincare Patrol children’s book series, which introduces young readers to real-world health challenges like asthma, food allergies, eczema, bullying, and the importance of smart, preventive care. Through innovation, education, and empathy, Dr. Roberts continues to champion change that saves lives and inspires hope—one protocol, one book, and one child at a time. www.drsuejbooks.com

Darcy Knapp-Fricks

Darcy Knapp-Fricks serves in a variety of industries including real estate, investments, ranching and self-storage. She is the president and co-owner of Knapp Sisters Rental, Ltd., started with her sister, Shelly Knapp, in 1999, which specializes in land rentals. They also own D&S Investments. She provides, maintains, and manages rental properties and real estate.

In addition, Darcy and Shelly own The Knapp Sisters Self Storage which consists of five self-storage building facilities. The facility is a AAA business with the largest of the five being climate controlled. They are open seven days a week. Their business was rated the #1 U-Haul dealer in the state of Texas and #3 U-Haul dealer in the U.S.

Darcy and her sister are members of the Texas Self Storage Association, the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, the Arlington Historical Society, the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau. Darcy attended the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Wesleyan University. She was featured in an article regarding her family donating land

President, Co-Owner Knapp Sisters Rental, Ltd. Knapp Sisters Cattle Company D&S Investments

to make a historical park. In her spare time, she enjoys time spent on her ranch in South Texas and travel.

Darcy’s advice to others is to always go with your gut feeling; it will not steer you wrong. There is nothing too big or too small for you to accomplish. If you believe in yourself and whatever your plans are, you can be successful. She feels strongly that you should never let anyone take your dreams away from you. When she got the idea to build the self-storage facility, she had made up her mind that it was going to be different from others. Even though she knew nothing about the storage business until then, Darcy listened to her gut that told her to go with it, and it has been a success.

How did you get started in your field/industry?

The real estate company that my sister and I own together was inherited from my grandfather and my father. As a result, it just made sense to create a rental business, since most of the property was residential. My grandfather was instrumental in the development of Arlington, Texas, and retained a lot or two out of all the developments that he created. These were residential neighborhoods with small homes that we put together to create Knapp Sisters Rental, Ltd., along with other purchases we made over the years. We then used them as rental properties. What are some of the biggest challenges/obstacles you faced in your career?

The oil and gas industry has been very challenging. It has been a learn-as-you-go experience with these companies. My grandfather was an attorney by trade, but his passion was real estate. In the process

of closing real estate deals, he retained all the mineral rights to every real estate deal that he had a hand in. He said that eventually technology would catch up, and it did. My sister and I inherited those mineral rights to properties that we never knew anything about. This became a blessing when the Barnett Shale (one of the largest onshore natural gas fields in the U.S.) came into play in Texas. That opened a whole new field for us, but the learning curve was difficult.

How do you achieve work/life balance?

I have a ranch in South Texas that I escape to whenever I have a free weekend. It is in the middle of nowhere with river front property that is spring fed. Being there is an amazing experience. What do you do to escape and recharge, even for a few hours?

I get back to nature. I have a hanging bed on my back porch. After a long work day, I make myself a cold drink, relax on my back porch, and watch the wildlife in my wooded back yard.

What advice has helped you get to the next level?

Always go with your gut feelings.

What does empowerment mean to you?

Being empowered means being able to move forward with the knowledge and experience that gives you the self-confidence to do whatever you dream of doing.

Who is one of your favorite designers?

Free People.

What is your favorite meal?

Fajitas.

How often do you cook?

I cook three to four times a week.

Name your favorite makeup products.

Estée Lauder.

What is your favorite perfume?

AMPERSAND from Tiffany & Co.

If you are having a dinner party, who is the first guest on your invite list (besides your children)?

My best friends.

NChief Bravery Officer and Tough Talk Expert

icole Bianchi empowers leaders in Fortune 500 companies to make the Small Brave Moves® and have the Five Tough Talks® that unlock the highest levels of communication, culture, productivity, and performance on leadership teams.

A former Fortune 500 executive turned trailblazing leadership expert, Nicole brings over two decades of real-world experience to the table. As a master certified executive coach, best-selling author, NSA certified speaking professional, and Forbes-featured thought leader, she’s known for transforming the way leaders lead—by making bravery the standard, not the exception.

Nicole’s bold, no-fluff approach helps executives and teams shift from surface-level communication to deep, results-driven dialogue. Her frameworks challenge leaders to lean into discomfort, spark lasting change, and cultivate “Butterfly Moments”—those pivotal shifts where transformation takes flight.

Through her dynamic keynotes and hands-on sessions, Nicole blends humor, heart, and hard-earned insight to guide leaders toward courageous action and authentic connection. Her work doesn’t just inspire; it ignites measurable impact and turns brave leadership into a powerful competitive advantage.

Nicole Bianchi isn’t just talking about change—she’s leading it.

Was there a specific moment or situation that made you decide to leave your corporate job and start helping other leaders?

Yes. I was in an executive role during a merger, trying to lead through chaos while watching everything we had built get unraveled. I was flying back and forth, pouring everything into a system that was no longer aligned with who I was or how I wanted to lead. One day, someone important to me shot it to me straight: “Nicole, you’re miserable to be around.” That sentence was my wake-up call. I realized I was holding on out of fear—fear of failure, fear of letting go, fear of losing the known. But fear makes a lousy advisor. That conversation cracked something open in me. I had a choice: stay stuck or step into the unknown. That’s when I made my first small brave move toward starting my own company.

In your experience, what are the two most difficult conversations leaders avoid?

“What’s Going On?” and “Being Better.”

“What’s Going On” is that messy, uncomfortable conflict conversation—the one where trust is slipping or misalignment is growing, but nobody wants to address it. We think it will “go away” in just a few days and we ignore it. Then days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months. Your presence is the intervention. Have the conversation.

“Being Better” is about coaching and feedback, but not the sugar-coated kind. I’m talking about courageous feedback that invites growth. These are the two that leaders dodge the most. But avoiding them? That’s how cultures erode.

When you're coaching executives on authentic communication, what's the first habit you typically help them break?

Talking to fill the silence. Most leaders rush to speak, to fix,

to sound smart. But brave communication isn’t about what you say; it’s about the space you create. The most underutilized listening skill is trusting silence. When you pause after asking a powerful question, you give the other person time to think, feel, and respond honestly. Silence isn’t awkward. It’s a signal that you’re listening with intention. You've mentored many women throughout their leadership journeys—what's the most common self-limiting belief you see them overcome?

“I’m not ready.”

That sentence is a thief. It steals momentum, confidence, and opportunity. I hear brilliant, capable women say this before asking for a promotion, speaking up in a meeting, or launching something new. The truth? You’re not supposed to feel ready. You’re supposed to feel brave. Readiness is a myth. Bravery is the muscle.

If you could have dinner with a “brave leader” from any point in history, who would it be and what would you ask them?

I’d choose Maya Angelou. Her presence, her voice, her unwavering truth-telling shaped generations. I’d ask her: “How did you protect your peace while speaking truth to power?” Because in this work—leading,

coaching, transforming—you have to be both fierce and grounded. I’d want to learn how she held both with such grace.

What does power mean to you?

Power is the courage to be fully yourself, especially when it’s easier to perform, conform, or stay silent. It’s not about control. It’s about clarity, alignment, and impact. True power shows up in small brave moves: telling the truth, setting a boundary, asking for what you need, or saying, “This isn’t working, so let’s make it better.” That’s the kind of power that transforms teams, organizations, and lives.

What's one shift you'd love to see more leaders make right now?

I want leaders to normalize the hard conversations—and stop outsourcing courage. Too many teams are stuck in cycles of confusion, silence, and resentment because leaders aren’t equipped to talk straight. That’s why I created the Five Tough Talks® framework. It’s five core conversations every leader needs to master to build trust, drive clarity, and elevate performance. These aren’t optional anymore—they’re essential. When leaders lean into brave communication, everything changes: culture, alignment, results.

Reality TV Star Selling Sunset, The Flipping El Moussas, and The Flip Off

Asmall-town girl with big city ambitions, Heather Rae El Moussa is a luxury real estate expert, model, and actress who won over viewers in the hit global Netflix show “Selling Sunset.” Since then, she has become a co-host of the HGTV series “The Flipping El Moussas,” and the hit competition series “The Flip Off,” alongside her husband Tarek El Moussa. She has founded multiple businesses, both on her own and with her husband, and is a popular presence on Instagram, where she shares photos of her family life, her businesses, and her television appearances.

Growing up in Running Springs, California, Heather Rae has a strong family background. From a very young age, she had big dreams of becoming a model and moved to Los Angeles in 2010. After a short time modeling and some acting roles, Heather Rae began selling luxury real estate in 2014. She quickly made her mark specializing in high profile and high networth clientele, including celebrities, athletes, and musicians.

Her success, business sense, and networking skills led her to a job with The Oppenheim Group, selling the luxe life to affluent buyers in LA, and a role on the Netflix hit, “Selling Sunset.” The show follows the group’s elite agents through professional challenges and personal conflicts, and rocketed to popularity around the world, hitting #1 in multiple countries with each new season. Heather Rae gained viewers’ attention as a high-end real estate expert facing everyday struggles, such as maintaining a long-distance relationship. Later episodes highlighted her relationship with Tarek El Moussa, an HGTV star, fellow real estate entrepreneur, and house-flipping expert, along with the intricacies of dating when there are children in the picture.

The two tied the knot in October of 2021. They starred together in HGTV’s “The Flipping El Moussas,” which attracted more than 16.5 million viewers to its freshman season and

HEATHER RAE El

premiered an expanded second season in December 2024. The series follows Tarek and Heather Rae’s personal and professional journeys as a real estate power couple, inviting viewers to watch their working relationship grow amid a busy family life. Heather also frequently appeared on Tarek’s HGTV show “Flipping 101 with Tarek El Moussa,” which gave viewers a brief look inside their lives on the show.

“The Flip Off,” Heather’s most recent TV project, premiered in January of 2025 on HGTV. The show pits Heather Rae and her husband against Tarek’s ex-wife, Christina Haack, in a competition to buy, renovate, and flip a house for the greatest financial gain. The hit show was HGTV’s highest-rated freshman series among adults 25-54 since 2022. The six-episode season attracted nearly 14 million total viewers. Heather Rae has found success not only as a tv star but also as an entrepreneur. In March 2023, she and Tarek launched Home by THEM, a consciously curated collection of luxury home products which includes hand-poured fragranced candles, plant-based luxurious liquid hand soap, and textiles. As a couple, Heather Rae and Tarek work hard to provide a warm, inviting atmosphere for friends and family. The Home by THEM line was developed to share their passion for home design by helping others create a beautiful home environment.

Driven by her passion for clean living, Heather Rae launched Heather Rae Essentials in February 2025, crafting a brand that seamlessly combines luxury and clean beauty. Heather’s products represent a

commitment to not only enhancing beauty, but also supporting a healthy lifestyle and a healthier planet, offering vegan, cruelty-free formulas free from parabens, sulfates, and harmful chemicals that can negatively impact your health and the environment. At the heart of the collection is Heather’s self-developed Lippie Gloss, which sold out within hours of its debut.

When she is not running her multiple companies, filming, or showing million-dollar properties, Heather Rae El Moussa’s personal passions of motherhood, health, fitness, beauty, fashion, and animal rights take center

stage. As a fitness enthusiast and former Pilates instructor, Heather Rae regularly shares her fitness routines, plant-based diet, and wellness tips with her over four million social media followers. As a dedicated vegan, she is always experimenting and sharing her latest plant-based recipes, all-natural skincare, and cosmetic products.

Heather Rae and Tarek live in Newport Beach, California with their blended family; children Tristan, Taylor, and Brayden, and their dog Bugzy.

I’m also excited to be expanding the collection very soon.

You’ve achieved remarkable success in real estate, television, as an entrepreneur, and in your marriage. How do you stay grounded and humble despite all?

My family keeps me grounded and humble. Being a mom and stepmom is hands-down the biggest, most important job that I’ve had- it shifts your view on life and on what actually matters. Kids couldn’t care less if you’ve been on TV; all they want is your love, and that alone is both gratifying and humbling. I also try to do daily self-check-ins, and If I’m having an “off day” I turn to my husband to help balance me out. I’ve figured out that success feels way better when you don’t lose yourself along the way and you stay true to who you are. It can be very easy to get caught up in the ‘glamour’ of it all, and it’s sad to see when people change because of fame.

House flipping can be incredibly challenging. How much of your success comes down to expertise versus luck regarding timing and market conditions?

It’s a mix of both. Knowing your stuff is crucial. You’ve got to understand how to assess a deal, design with intent, and keep track of the budget and timeline. Timing is also a big factor, and the market can change fast, but every now and then, the stars will align perfectly. The important part is being prepared so when that golden opportunity does come along, you’re ready to hit the ground running. And, of course, setbacks should always be expected, so it’s always smart to have a solid Plan B.

What advice would you give to someone interested in getting started in house flipping, especially in today’s market?

Start small, do your research, and surround yourself with people who really know their stuff. Hiring a good contractor is also important. Stay organized and keep a close eye on your numbers—knowing what you’re buying for, what you’re spending, and what you can realistically sell for is key. And most importantly, be patient! There will be challenges and setbacks along the way, but if you’re passionate and stay disciplined, you’ll make it work.

Heather Rae ESSENTIALS

If you could change one thing about your journey so far, what would it be and why?

Honestly, I wouldn’t change much because every experience—good or bad—has shaped who I am today. But if I had to choose one thing, I’d say I wish I had trusted myself sooner. I used to hold back or second-guess my instincts, but I’ve learned to embrace my strengths and trust my intuition. I’ve also learned to trust the process and that things will pass. We all go through hard days, weeks, and even years, but if you stay focused, things will get better.

What does the word power mean to you?

For me, power is all about owning who you are- your voice, your story, and your worth. It’s not about being the loudest person in the room; it’s about knowing what you stand for, sticking to it, and lifting others up along the way. It’s quiet confidence, a touch of class, and doing something impactful that actually matters.

POWER COUPLE

You and Tarek make your relationship as a power couple seem effortless. How do you balance your professional partnership with your personal relationship?

Marriage definitely takes effort and it’s not always easy—but we make it work through love, respect, and open communication. We prioritize our relationship and make sure to spend quality time together as a couple, not just as business partners or parents. We talk about everything and always support each other. It also helps that we genuinely enjoy working together and are best friends.

Our kids are our greatest joy, and no matter what stage they’re at, we know we need to set an example and have a strong relationship for them.

Your positive co-parenting and working relationship with Christina Haack has caught the interest of many. What’s your secret to maintaining such a healthy dynamic?

We are all about putting the kids first. That’s our shared goal, and it guides us in everything. We respect each other’s roles and have a good line of communication. We’re not perfect, but we work hard to create peace and consistency for the kids—and that’s what matters most.

As two women who know Tarek so well, what’s the funniest quirk you and Christina have both noticed about him? And on the flip side, what quality of his do you both most admire?

Oh, Tarek’s quirks are endless! But one we always laugh about is his hair anxiety. Every day when it’s hair time, I never know how it’s going to go. An admirable quality in Tarek is that he doesn’t give up, no matter what life throws at him. He’s a fighter. And while I can’t speak for Christina, I think that’s inspired both of us in different ways.

If you could throw away one article of Tarek’s wardrobe, what would it be and why?

He’s so funny—if I didn’t dress him, he’d wear the same black T-shirt, flip flops, hat, and shorts from the day I met him. In the six years I’ve known him, he’s never once shopped for himself. I “secretly” go through his clothes often and donate the stuff I never see him wear.

Between working and parenting, do you and Tarek ever have time for a date night? And if so, do you prefer to stay in or go out?

We make the time. Our relationship is a priority, so even if it’s just a quick dinner or a movie on the couch after the kids go to bed, we find ways to connect. I love a glam night out once in a while, but honestly, our favorite nights are the low-key ones at home with a glass of wine and no distractions.

P.O.W.E.R. PUBLICITY

Dr. Stella B. Keitel ed Breaktide in 2020. The practice offers individualized psychotherapy and coaching for adults, adolescents, and families. Dr. Keitel focuses on helping families and individuals navigate the world of mental health and substance abuse treatment, including guiding them in both inpatient and outpatient levels of care.

Before becoming a licensed clinical and forensic psychologist, Dr. Keitel worked with incarcerated women in a maximum-security prison and victims of domestic violence. Dr. Keitel was an acute care treatment team leader and provided direct care to people struggling with severe and persistent mental illness and violent behaviors. She conducted forensic evaluations to determine competence to stand trial, criminal responsibility, malingering, psychopathy, dangerousness, and other relevant issues. Through these experiences, she became inspired to look more closely at the mental health care system and how mental health care services are delivered.

Dr. Keitel is well-known for her direct and supportive treatment approach. She believes that the best therapy outcomes come from treatments that don’t necessarily look and feel like “treatment.” Dr. Keitel feels strongly about taking an integrative approach to treatment and expanding on her patients’ strengths and uniqueness rather than focusing on pathology and diagnosis as guideposts to care.

DR. STELLA B. KEITEL

Your website states you provide “highly individualized psychotherapy services that go beyond the one-size-fits-all weekly therapy session.” Can you explain what you mean by that?

Highly individualized psychotherapy tailors every aspect of treatment including frequency, methods, goals, and pace to the unique needs, personality, and life context of the client. It may include varied modalities (e.g. EMDR, somatic work, DBT, CBT, IFS), flexible session timing, integration of real-world activities, and continuous adjustments based on ongoing feedback and life changes, going far beyond the standard weekly talk therapy model.

What should a person look for when choosing a mental health provider? How can they make sure they get the right fit for their personality, lifestyle, etc.?

You should look for a provider who is licensed and has experience working with your area of concern (e.g. anxiety, trauma, relationships). You should also consider compatibility and style; after a session or two, assess if you feel heard, respected, and understood. Different therapists have different ways of addressing the same issue in both their personality and methodology. After a few sessions

you can usually get a sense if you are leaning into or away from the work you are doing together. Ultimately, it’s okay to try a few before settling on the one that truly fits your personality and lifestyle, but remember that therapy is not meant to be comfortable or make you “feel better” all the time. In your opinion, what would you say is the most common mental health challenge facing people today?

Some of the most common factors contributing to mental health struggles today include fast-paced lifestyles, social media, economic pressures, and global uncertainty. Top those factors off with issues in the accessibility and affordability of mental health care and it creates a perfect storm for mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and trauma disorders.

Mental health care has come a long way in the last decade - from increased awareness to better treatment options, and insurance coverage. What changes would you most like to see in the future of mental health care?

Therapists should also be in therapy. There remains stigma around professionals needing treatment but imagine carrying the weight of your clients and your own life struggles and ex-

Co-founder, CEO

pecting to remain healthy enough to help others; it’s maddening to me! I would also mandate more specific ongoing training for therapists. Lastly, I would aim to increase transparency between the system/providers and consumers. I find that there is a lot of room to help educate people on what treatment is available, what it looks like, and how to navigate getting the help you need for yourself or a loved one.

We know that many women hesitate to seek support due to finances or simply can’t find the time. What are some effective self-care strategies women can practice on their own, and how can they recognize when they should move beyond self-help and seek professional support?

My number one self-care tip is to make sure you aren’t treating it like a reward or something you need to earn. You can move beyond self-help and seek out professional support simply because you are curious. You don’t have to wait until you are significantly struggling to go to therapy. I urge everyone to seek it proactively. What does power mean to you?

Power means showing up as your authentic self, the ability to be strong and soft simultaneously, a great suit, staying in your values, and living in daily gratitude. www.breaktide.com

MARI CARTAGENOVA

Mari Cartagenova is a nationally-recognized, award-winning psychic medium and animal communicator. Though she has been sensitive to the spirit world her whole life, as a child she felt she had to hide her abilities because they were unusual. Eventually, Mari gained the courage and confidence to hone her skills, and studied with many renowned psychics and intuititves before founding her mediumship business. What is one thing you wish more people understood about mediumship?

People think that mediumship is a special gift given to only certain individuals, but everybody has the ability to connect to the other side. Just like some people are good at playing piano, some people have a natural gift of connecting to spirits. But everybody has this ability to some extent. We are all born intuitive and we are all sparks of light connected to universal energy or the Divine. Who can benefit from animal communication and what does that look like?

Anyone can benefit from animal communication! Whether you want to connect with a living pet or one that has crossed over, I believe everybody can gain comfort from knowing what was going on in the heart of their beloved fur baby.

I connect to animals the same way I connect to people. I am extremely clairvoyant, which means I see things energetically. I raise my vibration, and Spirit will lower their vibration a little bit so that we can connect. Then I am able to see pictures, movie clips, or images in my mind’s eye. From that information I am able to gain insight into what the animal or person is thinking and feeling. I also provide validating information so that the client knows I am connecting with their loved one.

How do you empower other women?

I let them know that they are also sparks of universal energy and they too can connect to their animals and lost loved ones. Everything in the universe is connected and we are all able to reach out energetically.

What I do isn't a rarefied gift. Being able to use your intuitive abilities helps you navigate the world in a more grounded and supported way. People can use their intuitive gifts in business, relationships, or just day-to-day. I empower clients with the knowledge that they too are able to tap into their innermost desires and don't need to go to a medium to help them do that.

PERLA LICHI DESIGN

When it comes to makeup, some like a little, some like a lot. No matter where they stand—a little or a lot—women know they will look better with the proper makeup. Selecting the proper makeup for your home is equally important. What do I mean? Faces come in all shapes and sizes: square, round, oval, rectangular, heartshaped. Face makeup starts by selecting a color (foundation) that matches your skin and hides flaws. You add color to brighten up your face and highlight your best features: lipstick, blusher, highlighter, eye makeup, and so forth. Choice of those colors and how they are used is important.

Rooms also come in all shapes and sizes. The foundation is paint on walls, ceilings and flooring colors. Rugs, upholstery and feature walls introduce colors and texture. Art, accessories and lighting are the icing on the cake, what I call the “jewelry” of any room.

Coming Soon! I’ll be sharing my tips with the world! I’m very excited to announce that Perla Lichi: The Decor Diva TV series will soon be available on your favorite cable TV station.

My clients are the same as the ladies selecting their makeup. Some like a little; some like a lot. The direction for 2025 is definitely bold use of color. Minimalist is still around, but for many, maximalist is now the name of the game.

My latest book,“You Can’t Make This Up! Oh Yes I Can,” is filled with makeup tips for the home.” I don’t keep my design tips to myself. Why? Because I know that once people get used to living in a well-designed home, they won’t want anything else. With the knowledge gained from 40 years as a professional interior designer, I have a lot of tips to share.

Summer Love

There’s something undeniably magical about summer. The long, golden days, the warmth on your skin, the sense of freedom in the air—it’s the season where hearts seem to open just a little wider. As a matchmaker, I’ve always noticed that summer love carries a unique, almost cinematic quality. It’s not just the weather; it’s the mindset. People are more spontaneous, more curious, and a little more willing to take chances.

For many, summer love brings memories of first kisses under starlit skies, impromptu beach dates, and laughter shared over melting ice cream cones. But beyond the cliché is something very real: summer creates the perfect conditions for emotional connection. With more social events, outdoor activities, and travel, opportunities for meeting new people naturally multiply. And when people are out of their routines—vacationing, relaxing, letting go of stress—they’re more emotionally available.

As a matchmaker, I encourage my clients to lean into that openness. If you’re single and looking, summer is not the time to hide behind dating apps or stick to familiar routines. Say “yes” to invitations. Go to the rooftop party, take that hiking trip, or sign up for the beach yoga class. These moments create the perfect backdrop for unexpected connections.

But here’s the part many don’t talk about: summer love isn’t always fleeting. Sure, some relationships are brief but beautiful, fading with the season. But I’ve also matched couples who met in July and were engaged by the following spring. The intensity of summer can forge fast, deep bonds. The key is being intentional. Enjoy the spark, but don’t be afraid to ask deeper questions. If you find yourself wrapped up in a new romance, take a moment to step back and ask: is this just the season talking, or is there real compatibility here?

One of my favorite success stories is about a client named Ava, who had nearly given up on love after a string of mismatched dates. Last July, she reluctantly agreed to join a group picnic I hosted in the park. That’s where she met Daniel, a quiet photographer who’d been single for years and wasn’t even sure he believed in matchmaking. They bonded over watermelon and jazz music. Today, they’re planning a wedding in that same park.

What made their summer love last? They were honest from the start, emotionally present, and willing to grow together beyond the thrill of the first few weeks.

So if you’re feeling that summer buzz and wondering if this might be the season for your own love story, my advice is simple: stay open, stay curious, and let yourself be seen. Whether it’s a weekend romance or the start of something forever, summer love has the power to remind us that connection is always possible—especially when the sun is shining.

Janine Victoria Trinidad

Janine works as a personal trainer, specializing in work with geriatric and disables clients and stretch therapy. Her future goal is to share her book, “Finding Hunter,” with others to help families navigate autism. Janine hopes to expand pageantry to include people with disabilities, not only to raise awareness but to help disabled people to develop skills such as eye contact, self-esteem, balance, and comradery. Ultimately, Janine aspires to collaborate with Tiara Magazine, which is dedicated to pageantry, in order to found a nonprofit organization. She envisions beauty queens writing about disabilities for the magazine. The funds raised will be used to hold a pageant recognizing disabled people and to provide the winner with a rescued pet to serve as a therapy animal.

Dionne Mack's Story

was created after the sudden death of my only son, who collapsed and stopped breathing while playing basketball and ultimately died. The focus of the foundation is Research, Awareness, and Prevention (RAP INITIATIVE).

My compelling story speaks on overcoming tragedy and making the decision to protect others. How’d I do this? Well, look below.

1. My only son collapsed and died while playing basketball just months shy of graduating high school.

2. No life saving measures to attempt to save his life was done.

3. His autopsy was mistakenly not done, and I didn’t find out until 3 months after he was buried.

4. I spent 12yrs doing news interviews and trying to get closure and the cause of my son’s death.

5. In February 2023, I did the unthinkable and something that’s not spoken on in the black community, I exhumed my son’s body and got the cause of death; more importantly, closure!

6. May 2023, the Tyrell Spencer Act was signed into law in Alabama to protect K-12, student athletes; by mandating that AEDs must be within 3-5 minutes of sport events and schools must implement Emergency Action Plans.

7. June 2023, June 9th was proclaimed as the Tyrell Spencer Day in Huntsville, Alabama.

8. November 2024, my collaboration with the American Heart Association lead to me speaking with legislators and the Senate committee in the US Capitol to push for the HEARTS ACT, a federal law to protect students from sudden cardiac events and to provide funding for schools to purchase AEDs, to enforce Emergency Action Plans. I’m pleased to say, the HEARTS Act was signed into law by President Biden in December 2024.

My story, my tragedy, my advocacy is what makes me a great person to empower others with the tools to take pain and make it their purpose. This purpose also gives me the strength to continue fighting so no other parent loses their child as I did. More importantly, no other child loses his or her life playing sports!

Maureen E. Marshall Jeffers

Educator

NYC Department of Education

Dr. Maureen Marshall-Jeffers is retired after more than 30 years of teaching. She received her Ed.D. from the College of New Rochelle in 2003. During her career, Maureen taught elementary and middle school, served as an administrator and team teacher, and was responsible for peerto-peer mentoring. She plans to continue as an educator and open a school of fine arts for children as young as 3. Maureen began her educational career in Trinidad/To bago teaching early childhood.

As an Afro-Caribbean-American woman, she is extremely proud of her Ethiopian and Guinean ancestry.

How did you get started in your field/industry?

Attending Medgar Evers College was the fulfillment of my academic dream, to be an educator and not just a teacher.

What are some of the biggest challenges/obstacles you faced in your career?

I faced discrimination as a foreign-born teacher, teaching academically and socially challenged children, many of whom lived below the poverty line. I once sustained a serious concussion while attempting to stop a fight between two students, which affected my performance for a time. What do you feel are some of the biggest challenges that women face today?

In spite of all the progress that has been made, women still bump up against the glass ceiling when trying to advance to positions of higher authority.

What does the word power mean to you?

It means that when I stand steadfast in my profound faith in humanity, and my belief in justice and equality for all, that nothing is impossible.

Theresa MILLS

After winning many awards in theatre while in high school, Theresa Mills had a bright future in acting, including several scholarship offers. However, her parents discouraged her in pursuing acting professionally, even though Theresa extended family included two notable actors, Ann Wedgeworth and Ralph Bellamy.

Instead, she took her parent’s advice and went on to achieve a BSE degree in Theatre/ Speech/ English at ETBU and became an educator. She devoted 28 years to teaching in Texas Public Schools and served as an adjunct professor at Panola College. However, since her retirement in 2018, Theresa has chosen to revive her childhood dream of pursuing a career as an actress and producer in film and television.

This new journey began in 2018 when Theresa was offered both a production credit and her first character role as Ginger ‘the chicken lover” in Micah Lyons’ feature film, “No Man’s Land.” Next, she produced “Man vs Bigfoot,” also co-starring as Christine. She has since been part of several other projects such as “Joe Haladin: the Case of the Missing Sister,” “8 Bucks,” and several short indie films. This has led to a recent lead role with JCFilms, “Aimee & Albert: The Early Years.” Currently, Theresa has an

upcoming role in the feature film, “Holy One,” written and directed by Dean Cain and starring Kevin Sorbo.

Since moving to Austin, a hub for the entertainment industry, Theresa has been able to connect with many filmmakers and producers and serve her film community. With her experience in teaching screenwriting, directing, and film production, she is helping further the art of storytelling by serving on the Austin Film Festival Selection Committee, allowing her to champion the work of emerging writers and filmmakers.

Having finally achieved her dream of acting, Theresa gained the confidence to sign with the SAG BoysenTalent Agency in Austin/LA, and has since appeared in several national commercials. These include ads for Salesforce (Superbowl Ad 2025 with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson), Marriott Bonvoy, Go Daddy, HEB, Amazon Web Services, and Phillips 66.

Theresa’s tenacity and interest in acting on television propelled her to self-submit to a local casting agency directly, leading to a feature role in two episodes as a reporter on The CW’s “Walker.” She also appeared in “Pistol,” a Hulu series directed Academy Award® winner Danny Boyle. Her other credits

include two episodes of “Landman” as a politician and “1923” as an immigrant on board the ship to Ellis Island.

One of Theresa’s current projects is filming a television pilot, “LA-Laurie Parrish” as the villainous antagonist Josephine Cozart. Presently, she looks forward to portraying the role of Rafaela in the upcoming drama series, “Class Act.”

Theresa’s hard work and dedication to her career has driven her to continue her studies in film, tv, commercials, and in workshops, as well as pushing her to get on-set experience. She also prioritizes being a help to her community as a screenwriter and producer. As a result, she is being noticed by talent agents, managers, casting directors, and producers throughout the country. She is indeed keeping her childhood dream alive and her new career is soaring to new heights. www.imdb.com/name/nm10588864/

Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in your field?

When I was a teenager, I sat on my stoop and painted the bricks of my rowhouse one by one. I fell in love with painting at that time. How do you empower other women?

For 20 years, I have painted in a studio with many painters. I often share my techniques and sometimes I seek out other painters’ techniques. What advice would you give to others entering your industry?

Persistence is the most important trait to have. Where do you see yourself professionally in the next five years?

I have begun to sell my paintings and I can see my name becoming more well-known. I may start to tutor other painters.

Stephanie earned a B.S. in Business Management from Central State University in 1992 as an honors graduate. Strawbridge

when Stephanie and two family members became unemployed. Stephanie’s vision of owning her own funeral business became a reality when they secured the location for their own funeral home. In October of 2008, the family formed the Strawbridge Memorial Chapel, the first funeral home in the city of Cleveland to be established by an African American woman. Stephanie is an elected Central Committee member and an elected Executive Committee member in the ward where she resides. Aurora DeLucia

Aurora DeLucia’s parents say she could dance before she could walk, and she kept dancing! She went to a high school which produced 10-12 full theatrical productions a year, and was in nine musicals, four in one year alone, most of the time with leading or large supporting roles. She was even a cast in a one-woman musical, which, in addition to opening her school’s season, was invited to perform at every level of high school thespian conferences - area, state and the International Thespian Festival.

She didn’t just sing and dance, though. She was a talented musician. In her sophomore year, she earned the highest possible rating playing saxophone at her state’s solo and ensemble competition. Aurora also played first-chair saxophone in several bands at her school. Additionally, she performed in college-sponsored honor bands across the state, and in collaboration with her city’s Symphony Orchestra.

She sang in All-State Choir and interned at both the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts and Clear Channel Entertainment, in addition to shadowing DJs at the radio station WNCI. She participated in summer camp at Juilliard and earned her Actor’s Equity union card as a teenager.

After high school, Aurora started an apprenticeship with New York Stage and Film. After working through the summer, she headed to Berklee College of Music where she began working in local theaters and commuting to New York City for other theatrical work, including filling in for the dancing beaver in The Awesome 80s Prom. In the spring, she began working on “America’s Got Talent.” Initially only hired for two days to help as a local production assistant, Elyse, a senior producer asked if Aurora would come to further cities and Aurora leapt at the chance. She kept working with “America’s Got Talent” around the country that season. The following season, she worked through different audition cities again, and then moved to Los Angeles in the summer of 2010. In the summer semester of 2009, as a rising sophomore, Aurora passed out while sitting in the recording studio classroom. She was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a rare form of Wolff Parkinson-White, a heart defect in which she was born with an extra electrical pathway on her heart that can cause deadly arrhythmias. After several failed treatments, Aurora underwent open-heart surgery, prompting her to leave school for the time being.

Aurora didn’t let health issues stop her. From 2010 to 2011, she had small early level roles on various TV shows like “America’s Got Talent,” “Skating with the Stars,” “Cake Boss,” “Model Latina,” and “Majors & Minors.” From 2011 to early 2014, Aurora was mainly an assistant working on shows like, “I Wanna Marry ‘Harry’,” “Ultimate Survival Alaska,” and “Shahs of Sunset.” In 2013, she earned her union membership in the Motion Picture Editors Guild on “Life Flight: Trauma Center Houston.” In 2014, she began post-coordinating, on “Project Runway: Threads” in 2014 and “Smile” in 2015, both on Lifetime. In 2014 and 2015, Aurora also worked her first producing job - working in the field on “Living with the Jacksons.” She joined the Producers Guild of America at this time.

In 2015, Aurora moved from Los Angeles to New York with no notice. On September 18, 2015, she had an interview to work as an assistant editor on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, and in that interview she was hired on the spot with her soonto-be boss, Tonya Dreher, telling Aurora “We love you and if you want this job, you have to start tomorrow.” Without hesitation, Aurora agreed. And less than six months later, on March 14, 2016, Aurora was officially promoted (after a successful trial period) to be an editor on the show.

Shortly after moving to New York, unfortunately, Aurora was raped, as she is quick to point out, nowhere near her work environment. Her job was one bright spot after leaving everyone she knew and all her comforts of home with no notice, just to have a traumatizing experience while in a new city with new people. She was diagnosed with PTSD, but did not let that stop her. She ran “Project 882” a year-long running project she created, in which she ran 882 race miles in a year representing the 882 Americans sexually assaulted every day. And she raised a five-figure dollar amount for charities across the country supporting sexual assault and domestic violence survivors.

Aurora also kept working as a television editor. Once The Nightly Show was canceled, she moved on to editor for other comedy and/or talk shows like The Daily Show, The Carlos Watson Show, and others. In fact, she’s made over 1,000 episodes of television. She’s a member of the

Motion Picture Editors Guild, The Producers Guild of America, the Screen Actors Guild, and is an Emmys-voting member of the Television Academy.

Despite facing various health issues and traumas, she’s had a (thus far) successful career with much more to come! And she has a successful personal life with her charity running projects (she’s run over 100 half marathons), hobbies (like becoming a rescue certified scuba diver), and education (she went back and finished her degree online during the pandemic and even got a master’s from Berklee, as well - her Bachelor of Music in Music Production & Engineering and Electronic Production & Design being conferred in August ’21 and her Master of Arts in Creative Media & Technology being conferred in July ’22.) We don’t know exactly what’s next for Aurora or what the world will throw at her. But the one thing we do know is she will handle it with tenacity as nothing can stop her.

Vivica A. Fox ACTRESS

The daughter of Portuguese immigrants, Paula Fidalgo inherited her parents’ work ethic and blazed new paths in television newsrooms around New England and New York State. Blessed with an entrepreneurial spirit, she founded and produced independent television shows dedicated to parenting and spearheaded successful community events that raised donations for large nonprofit organizations. Overcoming a major trauma, Paula has emerged as local leader and inspiration to many.

Paula won the coveted crown of National Miss 2015 in Williamsburg, Virginia, campaigning on the platform of “Breaking the Silence of Domestic Violence.” President Barack Obama awarded her the President’s Volunteer Service Award and Bronze Medals, and she received a Certificate of Recognition from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for volunteer work performed over the years.

As a professional journalist, Paula reported and produced news programs throughout the Northeast. She has performed virtually every role in her profession, including on-air host, reporter, news director, executive producer, and assignment editor. She won an Associated Press award for breaking news coverage of a fire in Boston.

She launched her broadcasting career with NECN in Newton, Massachusetts.

Author, Television Personality

She reported for WB56 TV, and WERS Radio in Boston. From there she joined WGGB in Springfield, Massachusetts, and then moved on to WFSBTV in Hartford, Connecticut. Eventually, her journey brought her to Albany, New York.

Paula was among the first employees hired to launch Time Warner Cable’s Capital News 9 in Albany on Oct. 11, 2002. She decided what stories to cover and supervised the production of newscasts for the 24-hour news channel, which was a completely new concept at the time. She later wrote and produced newscasts at WNYT - Channel 13, an NBC affiliate in Albany.

“Parentology with Paula,” was an upbeat half-hour television news show that explored family issues and aired on various networks. She produced and hosted the show, shot most of the scenes, wrote and edited copy, and sold advertisements. She also founded the related non-profit organization “Family First Always.” She became a prolific fundraiser and hosted several popular community events that benefitted the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Autism Society, and other groups.

Paula hosted and reported news for “Her Look,” a half-hour show on the independent Look TV. Here, she interviewed powerful women from Saratoga County, uncovering what drove them, what challenged them, and what made them successful. Through behind the scene insights and in depth conversations, she captured their unique stories and shared what truly made them tick.

In her first book, “They Even Took My Shoes,” Paula tells the fictional story of Maria Crowe, a resilient women who navigates life's challenges

through the lens of positive psychology and the power of manifestation. Paula takes the readers on a harrowing journey into the bowels of family court, and places of limited access but huge impact. Maria finds a system infected by politics and judges that don't follow the law, at great expense to families. As she confronts her fears and insecurities, Maria learns to harness her inner strength and embrace her true beauty.

Maria's story speaks to anyone who has faced hardship and has needed to tap into inner strength to keep going. She turns her challenges into triumphs through unwavering faith and learns to forgive, manifesting not only success for herself but a peaceful, deeply fulfilling relationship and a future that positively impacts those around her. “They Even Took My Shoes,” is more than a fictional story- it's a guide for those seeking to transform their own lives with hope and positivity. Join Maria as she discovers the magic of believing in oneself, nurturing deep connections, and living a life filled with joy, love, and abundance.

Visit a beach you have never been to before; take time to explore, whether it’s a local hidden gem or a planned trip to somewhere new.

Have a water balloon fight; cool off and get silly on a hot day. Be sure to pick up all the balloon pieces afterwards so that dogs or wildlife don’t eat them.

Ride a Ferris wheel; a nearby boardwalk, fair, or amusement park can be a fun family activity.

Take a pickle ball lesson; this wildly popular sport is lower impact than tennis, making it a great choice for casual players.

Summer Fun Ideas

Go to a farmers’ market to score some quality seasonal produce and support small businesses. Keep an eye out for vendors selling local honey, fresh bread, or even small-batch hot sauce.

Have a picnic; head to a park (or your yard) with a blanket, some sandwiches, and a friend or two to get some fresh air and step away from work or screens.

Raise funds with a car wash; you may be able to benefit a local school, girl scout troop, or hospital.

Set up a lemonade stand with your kids; it’s a chance for them to earn a little pocket money and start thinking about saving for the future.

Have a BBQ; host friends and neighbors, and encourage everyone to bring a dish to share, a game to play, or just their appetite!

Go to a drive-in movie; this classic American pastime is less common than it used to be, but if you’re able to find one, don’t skip it!
