Bridal Spectacular sure to inspire your wedding plans

ant to plan your wedding like a pro? Get the inside track on the latest and greatest trends on Saskatoon’s wedding scene by attending the 2019 Bridal Spectacular Show, presented

by She Modelling. The province’s premiere wedding expo will take place Sunday, January 20 at TCU Place from 12:30 to 5 p.m.

Couples can plan every aspect of their wedding day, honeymoon and new life together in just one afternoon at Bridal Spectacular. Show organizer Mary Obrodovich has brought together a diverse range of exhibitors including bridal fashion retailers, photographers, caterers, wedding venues, music providers, special event rental companies, limousine services, hair and make-up artists, travel agencies, fitness centres, home décor stores and more. “You can pretty much book your whole wedding at the show,” says Obrodovich.

There are always exciting discoveries to be made at Bridal Spectacular, she adds. “The Barn at Wind’s Edge is a terrific new wedding venue that will be opening in Saskatoon in early 2019. Couples can come and get a preview of this new reception centre and find out about the services they will be offering.”

Bed Bath and Beyond made their debut at Bridal Spectacular last fall and returns to the January show with a huge display. “It’s exciting that they are having such a large presence at our show. Couples can discover everything they need for their homes at Bed Bath and Beyond. Their experts will also help couples set up their gift registry at the show,” says Obrodovich.

New to this year’s Bridal Spectacular is the tasting room hosted by Boryski’s Butcher Block. It’s an opportunity to sample some delicious delights, and discover new catering ideas for your reception and late lunch.

Another newcomer to Bridal Spectacular is Bon Temps Café, promoting their wedding catering services. The restaurant specializes in Cajun and Creole cuisine, a great way to spice up your bridal shower, stagette or wedding festivities.

Bridal Spectacular is also an opportunity for new entrepreneurs to introduce their wedding products and services to Saskatoon’s brides-to-be. “I always have new home-based entrepreneurs at the show. They have so many unique offerings that can really personalize your wedding and set it apart,” says Obrodovich.

The Barn at Wind’s Edgge: New venue brings day prairie charm to your wedding w

pening in spring 2019, Saskatoon-based entrepreneur Rebecca Simpson and her business partner Joanne Tataryn have created an exciting four-season venue called the Barn at Wind’s Edge.

The first thing guests will notice about the Barn at Wind’s Edge is how close it is to the city. The drive there is just minutes from southeast Saskatoon and on a paved road the whole way.

The second thing guests will notice is how beautifully the Barn at Wind’s Edge fits into the surrounding prairie landscape. Situated on eight and a half acres, the venue takes advantage of the region’s natural light and striking topography. Couples will have the option of using an outdoor Ceremony Green for their wedding service and outdoor wedding photos are encouraged.

“Saturdays are booked May through September during 2019. We’re finding that Fridays are increasingly popular for weddings and we still have some availability on Fridays and Sundays in 2019. We have also begun taking bookings for 2020,” says Tataryn.

The third thing that’s notable about the venue is the sheer scale. When guests enter the building, some may be reminded of the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. The Barn at Wind’s Edge has a similar multistory foyer with a massive stone fireplace. It’s a style of rustic architecture that is great to see is alive and well.

Simpson points out that the unfinished mantelpiece is particularly special because the wood was salvaged from a Saskatchewan grain elevator.

On the left of the grand foyer is the Wind’s Edge Ballroom, a spacious 3,300 square foot room that can accommodate up to 225 guests for dinner and entertainment. Glass doors on either side of the room and vaulted

high ceilings add to the beauty of the room.

Straight ahead is the non-denominational Breeze Ceremony Hall. This year-round space can seat up to 225 guests for a wedding ceremony. Antique bronze pendant lights and whitewashed shiplap add to the ambience.

A full commercial kitchen serves delicious buffet or plated meals. With the exception of wedding cakes, cupcakes and candy bars, all food and beverages are provided by the Barn at Wind’s Edge.

Crystal Anderson MacLeod is the owner of the muchsought-after Saskatoon event planning company RSVP Event Design.

“At RSVP Event Design, we help our clients bring their vision to life with customized wedding and event packages. Our clients each have a unique style, vision and budget and they are looking for venues that set them

apart and reflect their personality. We’re excited that the Barn at Wind’s Edge will offer a new option, bringing a truly Saskatchewan setting to the local wedding scene,” says Anderson MacLeod.

The Barn at Wind’s Edge has partnered with Driverseat Saskatoon, to provide designated drivers for guests who need a safe ride home after an event and don’t want to worry about picking up their vehicle the next day.

On Sunday March 3, 2019 the Barn at Wind’s Edge will be holding a wedding presentation of its own, complete with a W Bridals fashion show. There will also be displays from a hand-picked group of suppliers, such as florists and wedding planners.

purposeful when we’re choosing a scent that will take them back to their special day – when they celebrated their love in front of their family and friends.”

For one couple who loved to cook together, Morris tucked rosemary into the bride’s bouquet and the groom’s boutonniere. The couple can now share a special memory of their wedding day every time they cook with fresh rosemary. Other wedding day scents have included lavender, garden roses, orange and mint.

Another unique feature Twig and Bloom offers is the floral storyboard. This “sneak peek” at the floral vision for the wedding day is created after consultation with the couple. Morris gets to know the couple and what they envision for their special. She takes into consideration whether it’s an indoor or outdoor event, formal or informal, traditional or more contemporary.

Seeing the storyboards is a chance to see what the florals look like and the overall feeling they create. It’s a fun preview of what the day of the wedding is going to look like.

For couples planning their nuptials, Morris says it’s best to relax and enjoy the preparations. Once you’ve chosen your vendors and professionals, trust them to bring your vision to life.

“It’s best to stay away from looking at more inspiration. (Couples) can get confused or overwhelmed because there are so many options. Finalize those details then just to let it go and know that it’s going to be beautiful. Let the professions do their job,” says Morris.

She also has some cautions about following the latest trends in wedding floral design. Being up-to-date on what’s fashionable right now may be fun, but it may also put undo pressure on the couple to be hip.

“The flowers will be in your photos forever and trends are going to come and go. People are best to stay with classic timeless designs,” says Morris.

Using flowers in a creative way or applying trends to things like the vessels for the centrepieces is one way to incorporate a trend and keep the flowers timeless. For example, a classic centrepiece in a rose gold vase is an elegant addition to your wedding décor and also right on trend.

In addition to wedding flowers, Morris can also create gorgeous floral additions for almost any event or occasion or event. With Twig and Bloom’s subscription service you can even enjoy floral arrangements delivered on a regular schedule.

Director of the year ary Obrodovich says that organizing Bridal Spectacular is one of the most joyful aspects of her business, She Modelling, which she founded over three decades ago. Last month, Obrodovich received a special honour at the prestigious Faces West International Model and Talent Convention in Vancouver. She was presented with the first-ever Patti Faulkner Memorial Director’s Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievement by an agency director, an award which was created in memory of long-time Calgary agency owner Patti Falkner.

“Because Patti and I were friends for so long, probably 35 years, this award has so much meaning for me. I was very honoured to be named the first recipient of this award,” says Obrodovich.
