EDITORIAL

Dear Customer!

For the first time in Norwegian stamp history, two stamps have been prepared by chefs.

For the joint Nordic theme, Food Culture, we present a dish from restaurant Maaemo, that has received three stars in the Michelin Guide, and a dish from the coastal steamer Hurtigruten, that travel the entire Norwegian coastline from Bergen to Kirkenes. Kristin Granli designed the stamps, which will be issued on 15 April.

Four Norwegian cities are celebrating their anniversary with stamps. The oldest, Sarpsborg, which is celebrating its 1,000th anniversary, was founded by St. Olav. Kristin Granli also designed these stamps. The stamps will be issued on 15 April.

The Biathlon World Championships in Oslo are now over.

The stamps with the denomination and country name in foil garnered a lot of attention, and both Norway Post and the designer of the stamps, Enzo Finger, have received acclaim for the stamps. In this magazine you will find the offered covers and other stamp products from the championships.

FOR COLLECTORS EXHIBITION CARDS

Stamp exhibitions The weekend of 8 – 10 April Norway Post participated in two stamp exhibitions, Nordia 2016 in Jyväskylä and Nordposta 2016 in Hamburg.

We marked these occasions with both exhibition cards and personal stamps depicting motifs from the two cities. The city’s theater can be seen on Jyväskylä’s stamp. It was designed by architect Alvar Aalto and built in 1982. The motif for Hamburg is the Chilehaus office building, which was built between 1922 and 1924. It is included on the list of Hamburg’s cultural monuments and is located in a part of the city that is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list.

Jyväskylä 2016 | 08.-10.04.2016 On the exhibition card and the personalised stamp we see Jyväskylä City Theatre, designed by the townsman Alvar Aalto and erected in 1982. The world-renowned architect Alvar Aalto is considered a pioneer in modern architecture.

Hamburg 2016 | 08.-10.04.2016 The motif on the exhibition card and the personalised stamp is the office building Chilehaus, built between 1922 and 1924.

The building is a cultural monument and is located in an area of Hamburg listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Biathlon World Championships The Biathlon World Championships were held in Oslo 2-13 March.

The stamps for the event were issued already on 19 February and Norway Post made separate envelopes with motif cancellations every day during the championships.

Ship Anniversaries A former Hurtigruten coastal steamer and an old traveler between Oslo and Kiel celebrate their anniversaries.

M/S "Prinsesse Ragnhild" was built at Kieler Howaldtswerke in Germany. The vessel was delivered to Jahre Line in 1966, and saled as a liner between Oslo and Kiel from the same year. Her 50th anniversary was marked with a special cancellation and a personalised stamp in Kiel on April 2.

M/S "Sjøkurs" was built by Blohm+Voss in Hamburg in 1956 and was named M/S "Ragnvald Jarl." The vessel was delivered to Nordenfjeldske Dampskibsselskab and sailed as a Hurtigruten vessel until 1995. The anniversary was marked with a special cancellation and a personalised stamp that was sold during Nordposta in Hamburg April 8-10.
