Which Pass or Fee option is best for you?

In an effort to provide YOU with the BEST health & fitness options for your individual goals, we provide a wide variety of options. The following is an overview of those options, however, please do not hesitate to contact us for more detailed information.

NO Membership Fee.

Active Pass

The Active Pass provides ongoing access to all drop in pool activities, the hot tub, the fitness center and all Group Exercise classes. For your convenience, Active Passes will auto-renew each month. Simply pay your first monthly fee upon registering with a debit or credit card and all future monthly payments are deducted directly from that same debit or credit card. The Active pass is the best option for someone who wants the flexibility to drop-in toa wide variety of classes, as well as being able to use the pool and fitness center at their convenience. This is also the most cost efficient option for individuals who plan to regularly work out 3 or more times per week.

Active Passes are not eligible to receive scholarships.

Punch Passes

For the customer who is just looking to do a few laps in the pool or work out with a friend who has a pass the drop-in fee allows you one-time access to the pool or fitness center for the day. This fee also inlcudes ONE Group Exercise class. (If re-entry on the same date is desired, a receipt must be requested at the time of original transaction)

We’ve added value to your punch pass! Punch passes now inlcude Group Exercise classes! They are a great option for those who plan to work out at Dishman only once or twice a week. In addition, punch passes are a great option for organizations who would like to bring a larger group of visitors (please call ahead). Portland Parks & Recreation Drop-In Activity Descriptions AQUAEROBICS This shallow water fitness class focuses on cardiovascular fitness with special attention to strength & flexibility. All fitness & swimming levels are welcome! AQUA POWER This deep water fitness class uses buoyant & resistant equipment to provide an excellent cardiovascular workout with zero impact! Aqua Power is designed for all levels. Participants should be comfortable in deep water. AQUAEROBICS/AQUA POWER LANE Dedicated space for individuals to workout on their own, ­without the aid of an instructor, using aquaerobics or aqua power techniques. BOOT CAMP FITNESS Time to jump start that metabolism! Tone up those muscles, increase ­energy levels & improve cardio­vascular capabilities. Use simple, ­effective, fundamental exercises designed to push you farther than you would push yourself! A traditional mix of ­calisthenic & body weight workouts that build core strength, increase ­flexibility & relieve stress. FAMILY SWIM Recreational swim for parents & children. Enjoy the shallow water, play mats, innertubes, water basketball & more. All children 17 yrs & under must be accompanied by an adult swimmer. FITNESS CENTER Our fitness center is designed for all physical abilities from the novice to the more experienced athlete. *Teens, 14-17 yrs old, must have a release form on file with parent/guardian permission. Stop by the front desk to pick up form. GAMEROOM - FREE! Two table tennis are available for the enjoyment of all. ­Deposit required to check out game equipment. Deposit ­returned if equipment is undamaged. INDOOR PARK Children’s play is essential in the human development process! Encourages the development of motor skills while helping children gain experience with group interaction & cooperative play on equipment, cars & assorted toys. Children must be accompanied by an adult. LAP SWIM For those of all skills & abilities who wish to swim laps to ­improve or maintain fitness & health. Great for ­cardiorespiratory fitness. Non-swimmers & children under 48” tall must not be left unattended on the pool deck and must be accompanied at all times in the water by a person 18 years or older who shall remain responsible for them and their safety. Life jackets are ­available for non-swimmers. PILATES Tone your body using this mind-body exercise technique. Portland Parks & Recreation - Winter 2014 The Blue Makos Dive into action with the Blue Makos! Are you into speed, competition, and perfecting your technique? Strut your stuff in this pre-competitive league, racing against other pools in Portland at quarterly mock-swim meets. Receive one hour per week of expert coaching in a fun, supportive environment. Participants will be given instruction on butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle, including competitive dives and turns. It is a great place to begin your journey to competitive swimming. Participants must be able to swim the length of the pool: Front Crawlstroke and Backstroke. (This correlates to passing Sea Lion level in the Portland Parks and Recreation swim lesson program.)

A pre-competitive swim league participants ages 6-15 will enjoy: • 1 hour weekly swim practices at all pools • Expert tips from an experienced swim coach • A fun, supportive, learning environment • Instruction on each of the four competitive strokes including dives and tums

• A mock swim meet on Sunday, March 16th from 8:00-10:30am at Dishman Pool • Every swimmer will receive a Blue Makos swim cap!

Classes designed to have one instructor: • per 4 to 5 students–Goldfish through Pre-Penguin • per 4 to 6 students–Pre-Otter through Polar Bear • per 4 to 8 students–Sea Lion and Above • per 3 students–all semi-private lessons

Preschool Lessons age: 3-5yr

P  iranha Optional level, may be taken any time after completion of Sea Lion. Works on turns, competitive strokes, starts, drills & endurance.

Goldfish For the non-swimmer. Provides water adjustment activities, front and back floats and glides, kickboard skills.

D  olphin Must be able to swim 25 yards crawl stroke, backcrawl and elementary backstroke. Knowledge of breaststroke.

Penguin For the non-swimmer who can put their face (including eyes) in the water and blow bubbles for 5 seconds.

P  ark Shark Must be able to swim 50 yards crawl stroke, backcrawl, elementary backcrawl and breaststroke.

Otter Must be comfortable in water and able to front glide with kick (steamboat) 5 feet unassisted.

P  ark Shark II Must be able to swim 50 yards of breaststroke, backcrawl, sidestroke and front crawl with good technique. Must execute a pike or tuck surface, dive to 8 feet, swim underwater 20 feet, surface and tread water for 5 minutes.

Seal Must be able to crawl stroke without breathing for 20 feet and kick on back for 20 feet unassisted.

WATER FITNESS INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PP&R offers basic training for candidates interested in instructing Water Fitness Group Classes. This course is designed for: • The beginner who has water fitness experience with little or no formal training as an Instructor • Water Fitness Instructors who need practical experience • Group Fitness Instructors who want to transition to the water • Individuals who are interested in learning more about their personal water fitness exercise PREREQUISITES: 1. Portland Parks & Recreation - Winter 2014 Winter & Spring Break Camps We ask that campers wear comfortable shoes & clothing each day as they will be active. Each camper should bring a healthy lunch, 2 healthy snacks, swimsuit, towel, water bottle. Drop-off & pick-up will be in the game room each day. For your child’s safety, parents/guardians are required to sign their child in at the beginning of each day and sign them out at the end of the day. This is a great opportunity to check in with counselors about what is happening for the day and also double checking that everything went smoothly during the day. Please allow an extra 10 or 15 minutes on the first day, to complete a Camper Registration Form.

Unplugged Payment We spend our days engaged in active, creative, and social activities that involve very little or no screen time.

Payment is due prior to the camp start date. You may pay the entire balance at the time of registration, or you can pay a down payment of $10 per week and schedule your payments to be due Monday prior to the camp’s start date.

Structure & Variety

We include a variety of activities to keep young minds and bodies active and challenged. Free choice and relaxation time provides a chance to enjoy low-key activities between more in-depth, structured projects and games. All children are encouraged to participate, but never forced. Field trips to natural areas, recreation sites, and cultural centers are fun learning experiences. We create an environment that is structured and supportive, but also fun and flexible.

Portland Parks & Recreation Matt Dishman Educational Preschool Program The Matt Dishman Early Childhood Education Program includes classes for ages 3,4 & 5years. These programs run September - May with students typically starting in September. Children must be the proper age by September 1, 2013 to be eligible. Our program follows a developmental philosophy that children develop and grow at their own rate. To enhance the learning experience, our programs feature learning stations that enable children to explore different areas of development. Occasionally, we have mid-year openings. Music – Group Guitar for Youth ages: 7-13 Group music lessons are not only affordable, but offer much more to the student than learning an instrument. The ability to play with other musicians benefits the student on many different levels. Whether a new beginner or a continuing player, music education is important to brain develpment & can help students aptitude in all other areas of study. This class is geared towards beginning to intermediate level musicians. Students learn at their own pace in a safe & encouraging group setting. Bring an instrument. Kelly Ann Koltiska strong presence in the West African Drum and Dance community. He is the perfect blend of drum and dance; Western and West African. Sekou performs and teaches dance all over the United States internationally . His African Dance class at Matt Dishman is a long standing favorite & a must to add to your Tuesday night schedule!

...teaches dance and gymnastics classes to students ages one-adult at East Portland, Montavilla, and now here at Dishman Community Center. She also performs with various groups here in Portland, including Blue Sky Ensemble. Kelly holds a B.F.A in dance from The University of Montana. Her training includes modern, improvisation, ballet, jazz, gymnastics, yoga, and tap. Kelly’s teaching style focuses on individuality (after all, everybody is made differently), and joy in movement, while gaining body awareness. One of her goals is to help tap into the natural flow in our bodies.

registration, unless otherwise arranged. If you have a nonresident pass, please let us know. Please call if you receive a returned check or declined bank card notice, either of which void registration.


A resident is: • anyone who occupies a permanent residence inside the city limits of Portland. At the discretion of a Community Center Director, proof of home address may be required. Acceptable address verification may include a 1) drivers license, 2) Oregon ID card, 3) property tax statement, 4) utility bill or lease agreement with current home address. • any child living within the school boundaries of the Reynolds and Centennial School Districts who is attending a SUN Community School. Through a partnership between the City and County, a child attending a SUN Community School is eligible to register for programs at any SUN Community School location without paying a non-resident fee. Anyone else is considered a non-resident (NR) and will be assessed a NR fee. NR fees do not apply to drop-in activities. The nonprofit Portland Parks Foundation has launched a scholarship fund to make community centers affordable for all children this winter, regardless of financial means.
