This research studies the third dimension of the façade. The aim is to understand the effect of the space it contains and to incorporate it in the design process. The following two questions are brought forward: what is a “spatial façade” and how is it related to the design process? The theoretical analysis discusses issues of space, façade and architectural composition and relies on bibliographical research. The case study involves the analysis of the aforementioned notions through three buildings designed by Yiorgos and Eleni Manetas. It was aided by data collected through interviews with Eleni Manetas and Dimitris Philippides. The first conclusion is that Yiorgos and Eleni Manetas have defied the conventional meaning of the façade though their work. The second proves that the study of a façade is multi-dimensional and is present throughout the design process.
