Dear Friends, Thank you for joining us for The George H.W. Bush Points of Light Awards Celebration.

As Co-Chairs for this year’s event, we are honored to serve alongside honorary chairs, Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

Our grandfather and uncle believed in the transformative power of the human spirit, and the light that shines bright within each individual. His legacy not only lives on – it’s growing with Points of Light through their mission to inspire, equip and mobilize people to take action that changes the world.

During this year’s Awards Celebration, we are proud to honor six incredible individuals who exemplify some of his most memorable traits and carry his legacy forward through their leadership and dedication to improving communities around the world. We are grateful for the opportunity to honor Marc and Lynne Benioff, co-founder, chair & CEO, Salesforce and co-chairs, TIME; Hamdi Ulukaya, CEO & founder, Chobani and founder, Tent Partnership for Refugees; Captain Sir Thomas Moore, founder, The Captain Tom Foundation; and Shreyaa and Esha Venkat, co-founders, NEST4US. We hope you are as inspired as we are by our Inspiration Spotlights. These individuals are everyday people who have stepped up to help someone else during these unpredictable times – individuals who used their voice and took action when they saw a need, neighbors who helped another, and essential workers who answered the call to help when their communities needed them most.

THE GEORGE H.W. BUSH POINTS OF LIGHT AWARD Marc Benioff is Chair, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Salesforce and a pioneer of cloud computing. Under Benioff’s leadership, Salesforce is the #1 provider of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software globally. Benioff was named “Innovator of the Decade” by Forbes and is recognized as one of the World’s 25 Greatest Leaders by Fortune and one of the 10 Best Performing CEOs by Harvard Business Review. For his leadership on equality, Benioff has been honored

by GLAAD, the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative and Variety Magazine with its EmPOWerment Award. A member of the World Economic Forum (“WEF”) Board of Trustees, Benioff serves as the inaugural Chair of WEF’s Forum Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in San Francisco. Benioff is the owner and co-chair of TIME, and Benioff is author of the New York Times bestseller Trailblazer: The Power of Business as the Greatest Platform for Change. Benioff received a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, where he is on its Board of Trustees.

Lynne Benioff is the co-chair of TIME and active on the boards of several organizations. She is a Distinguished Director of the Board of Overseers of the University of California San Francisco Foundation, and serves on the board of directors of The Rise Fund, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals, Common Sense Media and the Benioff Ocean Initiative. Ms. Benioff was appointed to the Presidio Trust board by President Barack Obama in 2015 and currently chairs its Governance Committee and co-chairs the Tunnel Tops Campaign Committee. In 2014, Ms. Benioff was honored by Mayor Ed Lee as one of San Francisco’s “Women of the Year.” She received a B.S. from the University of Washington.

THE GEORGE H.W. BUSH POINTS OF LIGHT AWARD The founder and CEO of Chobani, one of the fastest growing food companies in the last decade and a pioneer for the natural food movement, Hamdi Ulukaya has always made helping people and having a positive impact on communities a priority. From the beginning, the company has donated a portion of its profits to charitable causes, many of them in Idaho and New York where its products are made. In 2016, Ulukaya launched the Chobani Food Incubator to mentor and support socially responsible food entrepreneurs and further deliver on the company’s mission to provide better food for more people.

Ulukaya also founded the Tent Partnership for Refugees to mobilize the private sector to improve the lives and livelihoods of the more than 25 million refugees around the globe. He also signed the Giving Pledge and committed the majority of his personal wealth to the cause. For these efforts, he was named an Eminent Advocate by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and received the United Nations Foundation Global Leadership Award, among other recognitions. Ulukaya is also an Oslo Business for Peace Award recipient, a Global Citizen Prize winner and was named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for his work on the refugee crisis and his innovative approach to business.

Bush’s work shows that through acts of service, hard work, and kindness, we can all fight for real change. I am humbled and honored to stand with them, as businesses like Chobani use our power to fix any injustices we see in the world.”

THE GEORGE H.W. BUSH POINTS OF LIGHT AWARD Captain Sir Thomas has always been active, even driving every day until he slipped and fractured his hip two years ago. The care and after-treatment he received then, and earlier through a cancer scare, left him eternally grateful to so many people in the National Health Service.

When the coronavirus pandemic struck, Captain Sir Thomas wanted to give something back to the healthcare staff putting their lives on the line for all of us.

The initial plan was to do 100 laps of his garden, at 50 meters at a time, before his 100th birthday. He hoped to raise £1,000 for NHS charities. £38.9 million later, he has inspired a whole nation, and drawn praise and admiration from all around the world. People were rooting for him from the four corners of the globe.

Just as importantly, thanks poured in from NHS workers all over the country. Captain Sir Thomas was especially touched by that.

He has become a national treasure and a national hero, but sees himself as anything but.

He vowed to keep on walking until his 100th birthday and then move onto his next challenge. The Captain Tom Foundation launched in 2020 to carry on his journey to inspire hope where it is needed most.

“It is an enormous honor and privilege to receive this award. I am very pleased to be associated with President George H.W. Bush in any way,” said Captain Sir Thomas. “I’ve always had magnificent service from the nurses and doctors at the health service, so my family suggested we raise some money. I never anticipated we would raise such an enormous sum and it all went to a great cause. I want to thank the people from all around the world who contributed to our fund. I thank you very much indeed.”

THE GEORGE H.W. BUSH POINTS OF LIGHT AWARD Shreyaa and Esha are founders of NEST4US, a nonprofit organization dedicated to working with communities to provide volunteer and leadership opportunities to make the world better through kindness. Their mission is to empower the next generation of compassionate youth to integrate kindness, generosity, and social good into their routine.

17-year-old Shreyaa is a rising freshman at Georgetown University pursuing Global Health Pre-medical studies. She already has more than seven years of volunteer service under her belt and has spent over 1,500 hours giving back to her community. She is an active board member of various clubs and organizations, where she provides a wide range of volunteer opportunities for the community. Shreyaa is an academic honor roll student, a travel soccer player, a 3rd-degree black belt, a certified soccer referee, a kathak dancer, and an assistant instructor at CJR Martial Arts.

14-year-old Esha, in addition to being a straight-A honor roll student, finds time to play piano, earn her 2nd-degree black belt, enjoy hip-hop and Kathak, and serves as the captain of her travel soccer team. She is also an active member of several clubs and organizations. She has spent over 850 volunteer hours on projects ranging from feeding the homeless and tutoring kids, to helping hurricane victims and creating care packages for low-income families.

“Our vision of empowering individuals worldwide to implement service into their communities aligns with that of President George H.W. Bush, which was to encourage others to be a light for their neighbors,” Shreyaa and Esha said. “Our work has been greatly influenced by his legacy of service, from our blessing bags and school supply kits to mentoring services and leadership initiatives, the common goal always being to join together with our community to create lasting change. We’re incredibly grateful to receive this prestigious award, which will motivate us to continue inspiring the next generation to build a better, kinder future!”

As part of this year’s Awards Celebration, we launched the Inspiration Honor Roll to recognize individuals who take action, in both large and small ways, to improve the lives of others all around the world. This year we have seen people step up to help like never before including volunteers, those who used their voice and took action when they saw a need, neighbors who helped another, and essential workers such as first responders, medical staff, grocery store workers, public transportation staff and many more.

THE GEORGE H.W. BUSH POINTS OF LIGHT AWARDS CELEBRATION INSPIRATION SPOTLIGHTS

Learn about the incredible work of 15 of these individuals who will be recognized during the Awards Celebration who have been named Inspiration Spotlights.

Stéphanie Andrieux • Paris, France Stéphanie is the president and founder of Benenova, a Points of Light Global Network affiliate in France, who works to remove obstacles to volunteer engagement. To support their community in response to the pandemic, Stéphanie and Benenova organized solidarity kitchens to serve those in need. Volunteers prepared healthy and balanced meals, sorted food and distributed meals, masks and more to food aid associations around the region.

Dylan Baca • White Mountains, Arizona During the height of the pandemic, Dylan’s organization, the Indigenous Peoples’ Initiative, became a rapid response effort for marginalized populations across the country that were disproportionately devastated by COVID-19. Dylan acquired and distributed donated items to first responders, frontline workers and community members, and secured life-saving personal protective equipment for the Johns Hopkins Center for American Indian Health and first responders.

Milagros Betharte • New York, New York Milagros has been a volunteer with the Community Service Society of New York, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program for over four years. She has mentored young people in the juvenile justice system, helped people with conviction histories read and repair their NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services rap sheets, and tutored math. Thanks to Milagros, over 35 students passed their High School Equivalency (HSE) exam. When the pandemic hit New York City, Milagros continued her service work via Zoom to make sure vulnerable young people had support despite not being able to meet in person.

Shannon Blair & Sandy Cambron • Shepherdsville, Kentucky Sandy and Shannon gift baby dolls to Alzheimer’s patients, creating lasting connections to over 800 Alzheimer patients through Pearl’s Memory Babies, an organization named after Sandy’s mother-in-law. By personally delivering customized dolls and stuffed animals to Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients residing in memory care facilities, Sandy and Shannon are providing love and comfort with something soft and familiar that individuals can cherish. Since the pandemic began, their work has been even more necessary since many of the patients in memory care facilities are not able to have visitors.

THE GEORGE H.W. BUSH POINTS OF LIGHT AWARDS CELEBRATION INSPIRATION SPOTLIGHTS

Dr. Tram Ho • Houston, Texas Dr. Tram Ho is a frontline doctor who works tirelessly to serve the under-served Asian communities in the greater Houston area. She helped organize three free drive-in COVID-19 testing services which served 800 seniors in Houston. With a large population of Vietnamese seniors who lack English proficiency, who also experience barriers to COVID-19 testing, she created a program to serve her community. Despite her hectic schedule to treat patients locally, she found time for radio and television interviews which provided guidance on safety measures and precautions reaching more people in need in her community.

Beau McDougall • Las Vegas, Nevada Born and raised in Las Vegas, Beau is a proud graduate of UNLV and has been serving Las Vegas as a firefighter and paramedic for the last decade. He is also a small business owner focused in the real estate industry. When he’s not selling homes or fighting fires, he dedicates his time to his community. The UNLV School of Medicine is currently operating the largest COVID-19 testing site in Nevada, and the site serves over 500 patients a day working in congruent with 85 staff and volunteers, students, nurses, doctors, National Guard & Metro Police. Beau saw this as an opportunity to make a difference, and in early May, Beau coordinated with local organizations to provide five days of food and beverages to be delivered to the UNLV School of Medicine testing site.

Daniel Morais • São Paulo, Brazil Daniel is the founder of Atados, a Points of Light Global Network affiliate in Brazil, whose organization connects people to volunteer opportunities and social causes. In response to COVID-19, Daniel and Atados brought “Vizinho Amigo,” or "Good Neighbor," to Brazil.

The movement, which started in Portugal, mobilized more than 2,500 volunteers with people who need help during the COVID-19 pandemic. Activities include grocery shopping and prescription delivery, dog walking, chatting on the phone to make a connection, and more.

Steve Delman and Ava Reinfeld • Livingston, New Jersey Senior Corps RSVP volunteers Steve Delman and Ava Reinfield have gone above and beyond since the pandemic started, delivering over 109 meals to isolated older adults.

These hot meals are delivered twice a week with no physical contact on Tuesdays and Fridays, ensuring that recipients receive regular food deliveries and check-ins. RSVP staff set up a sign-up twice weekly for volunteers to select which clients need deliveries. Steve and Ava wait to sign up for remaining clients, usually serving those who live in more remote areas of the community. They are also longtime volunteers with Jewish Family Services of Metrowest NJ.

THE GEORGE H.W. BUSH POINTS OF LIGHT AWARDS CELEBRATION INSPIRATION SPOTLIGHTS

Santiago & Patricio Guerrero and Nathan Sharifrazi • Los Angeles, California In the early phases of the pandemic, Santiago, Patricio and Nathan started Shield LA, an organization that uses state-of-the-art technology, 3D printing, robotics and design to produce low-cost face shields for vulnerable communities. Shield LA’s cost-effective design allows healthcare workers to assemble their own face shield, which led to a 90% decrease in cost and packaging. Most importantly, this allows Shield LA to produce and ship more than 10,000 masks per day. In addition, this helps alleviate the need for masks and other personal protective equipment supplies for healthcare workers across the country.

Nolan Smith • Durham, North Carolina A former Duke All-American basketball player and current director of basketball operations, Nolan has taken on a very active role in his community during the recent movement for social justice. Asked to serve as a community leader by the mayor of Durham, Nolan has helped ensure that protests and other demonstrations held in Durham have remained peaceful, ensuring there were no fights or outbreaks of violence.

He is also an active member of The Brotherhood, a Duke basketball alumni group which has focused on voting initiatives, equality and education on systemic racism.

Heather Staples • Boston, Massachusetts Heather created North Shore Fabric Masks for Health Professionals, a Facebook group with more than 300 members who have delivered hundreds of masks and other supplies to frontline workers in need. Her family includes medical professionals and when the hospital they work for asked them to use bandanas instead of personal protective equipment, it prompted her to make masks. She has donated over 19,000 masks and other supplies to more than 80 organizations.
