Hallo-Zine Fall 2021
Spirited
Written by Elaina Davey Illustrated by Bianca Rader You have not slept in years, as you are wont To do when you cannot these thoughts annul— An empty room invites the endless haunt As easy as a cramped and crowded skull. Aghast! A ghost! A specter feigning form within your body! Hear that howling dread Behind the walls of home that wants you harm, Along this gnashing hole that wants you dead. No fiend to brawl beyond the truth aloud: You are the ill that ails you—awful blight Of brain and heart and mirror voices loud Enough to wake the thing that knows to fight, To hold the drumming pulse behind your eyes As something dead and rotting sideways climbs.
