It’s Fun to connect Employers and Foreigners

Brno is a city full of life, trams, good coffee and… foreigners! Currently there are approximately 65 thousand foreigners living in Brno, which also means there are as many job positions. However, not everyone has the luck to have their dream job; sometimes they find themselves in a completely different place than they want (or are qualified for) instead of their dream career. And that’s what Iveta Kučerová from the Centre for Foreigners JMK is helping with; she helps companies and foreigners to find their perfect job match. What exactly does your position as HR consultant for employers entail? I help companies to understand the specifics of employing foreigners and I help foreigners understand how the Czech job market works. We focus on both private companies and public institutions. Our goal is to create a foreigners friendly group of employers that we would then
recommend to our clients. With these companies we would be sure that they would offer our clients fair opportunities, take care of new employees and help them integrate into Czech society. The Centre organizes “A slightly different breakfast”. How are they different and who are they for? Our breakfasts aren’t just about food; they are mainly about meeting and networking. They are for employers of foreigners. The participants appreciate the access to up-to-date information on HR training, nostrifications, legislation, and the employee qualifications. We share experiences from real life and we connect companies with each other. During these breakfasts, experts from the ministries and other government offices participate as well, and you can directly ask them questions. The event is free of charge. You’re preparing a Speed dating project. Could you tell us a bit
more about it? It’s kind of a quick date between an institution and the job seeker. It is always focused on one field of employment. We will invite 5 to 6 companies and 10-15 foreigners. Each “speed date” lasts 6 minutes; the candidate will introduce themselves and the HR from the company will ask them questions and vice versa. After the meeting both parties express whether they are interested in further contact. The benefit of this kind of meeting is its high effectiveness; the company and those interested will get to know each other quickly without complicated bureaucracy. We will provide interpreters and advice regarding the nostrification of diplomas and language courses. We will have our first “date” on Thursday May 22, aimed at the healthcare sector. What do you enjoy about working in HR and with foreigners? What do you get out of your job? I like working with people and
finding solutions that have a real impact. Each day brings new situations and no case is the same. I help people not only get a job, but also to find their footing in a new environment, to understand Czech culture and to feel good here. I like being the bridge between employers and foreign workers. When I manage to find a solution that makes sense for both parties, I know that my work has real meaning. What do you do outside of work? How do you recharge? Dog, gym, running, and my child. Definitely travelling too. It is a completely new way to travel with a baby, since I get to go places I haven’t gone before.
