Nha Rong wharf

Located near the opposite of Bach Dang Wharf, along the Ben Nghe River, Nha Rong Wharf started out as a major commercial port of Saigon. This commercial port is located on the Saigon River and was built in 1863, on the area near Khanh Hoi Bridge (now in District 4). The headquarters is a two-story building built in 1863 by the French shipping company Messageries Maritimes. It was used as a place to sell train tickets and accommodation for managers. By the end of 1899, the company was allowed to build a berth for ships to dock. The wharf is lined with thick boards, placed on iron posts along the river’s edge. The company’s headquarters has Western architecture; however, on the roof, two dragons are attached to the moon in the style of “Two dragons adoring the moon”, so it is also known as the Dragon house. Therefore, that wharf is also called Nha Rong Wharf.
