Tunnel Structure and Features

Emerging from the main passage of the tunnels are innumerable branches interconnecting with one another. Depending on the terrain and specific objectives, certain branches terminate independently. Numerous branches extend towards the Saigon River, facilitating the ability to traverse the river and reach different base areas.

Despite not being deeply excavated, these tunnels possess the capacity to endure minor bombs, shells, as well as the weight of tanks and armored vehicles. The tunnel system exhibits a multilayered structure, consisting of two to three levels (upper and lower), with concealed trapdoors in between. These upper and lower intersections are strategically positioned to thwart counterattacks and prevent the infiltration of harmful substances. Concealed by various materials on the ground, ventilation shafts discreetly lead to hidden entrances. Several of these entrances have been transformed into firing positions, ingeniously housing sniper rifles.

Adjacent to the tunnels, bunkers provide a space for respite following combat, complete with provisions for hanging hammocks. Within these tunnels are designated areas for storing weaponry, rations, potable water, and even a well. Additional chambers accommodate the leader’s workspace, a surgical room, and quarters for children, the elderly, and women. Notably, a spacious chamber featuring a disguised roof serves as a venue for gatherings, film screenings, and artistic performances.
