Rivers the city of Sai Gon
Saigon is a bustling, magnificent, and colorful city. this place is considered the pearl of the South with legendary rivers. From those rivers, riverbanks gradually formed and were associated with the soul and history of the city. It is also home to journeys of development. The names of Nha Rong Wharf, Bach Dang Wharf, Chuong Duong Wharf, Ben Van Don, Ben Nghe, Ben Thanh, etc have been associated with this land for generations, thus contributing to the beauty of the most modern city in Vietnam.

Referring to Saigon, people often think of high-rise buildings and ancient French architectural works. However, it is the system of rivers and canals that really makes the city unique. Each name of these canals is as simple and rustic as the soul of the Saigon people, namely Ben Nghe River, Nhieu LocThi Nghe canal, Lo Gom canal, Ong Do canal, Nuoc Den canal, Te canal, etc. The dense system of canals not only surrounds but is located right in the heart of the city. It is the lifeline of traffic to transport rice and other agricultural products and goods from the Mekong Delta to ports in Saigon. Along with the river system are many bridges with wharves, forming trading activities.

Binh Dong wharf
A typical example is Binh Dong wharf. During his lifetime, scholar and culturalist Vuong Hong Sen, who had profound knowledge of the South, once commented: “Binh Dong Wharf is not only a busy trading place, but also preserves many architectural and cultural features such as the row of ancient tile house or the traditional customs of celebrating Tet of the Southern people. From December 20 every year, Binh Dong Wharf is bustling with boats and canoes filled with ornamental flowers from the West in the spring. Binh Dong Wharf automatically becomes a cultural rendezvous point every New Year. Although in recent years, Binh Dong wharf flower market has slightly lost its significance, but it is still a unique “flower wharf” of Ho Chi Minh City, bringing its own charm in the midst of a rapidly changing city.

Bach Dang wharf
Not as crowded with boats and trading activities as Binh Dong wharf, but Bach Dang wharf is a beautiful riverside park.

Currently, the Bach Dang wharf area is built with a ship station, with a cool and beautiful Bach Dang park located in the west bank of the Saigon River, extending from Saigon Bridge to Tan Cang, Ba Son, Bach Dang wharf, Thu Ngu flagpole, district 4 port to the foot of Tan Thuan bridge. Researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau, said: “Bach Dang wharf, Ham Tu wharf, and Chuong Duong wharf originated from the resounding victory in the history of the nation against foreign invaders. Bach Dang wharf is associated with the history of defeating invaders 3 times, while Chuong Duong wharf and Ham Tu wharf are two river wharfs associated with the victory of the Mongols in the 13th century. Across the street, the monument of Tran Quoc Tuan stands tall, pointing towards Bach Dang wharf forming an extremely majestic landscape. The people of Saigon invested in building this place to commemorate the heroic achievements of the Dai Viet army and people in the great battle of Bach Dang over the Nguyen-Mong army.
