WELL HELLO AGAIN. Here we are with another issue of RAWR magazine – this time not only filled with fabulous poetry, but also packed with pages of amazing photography! Everything you see on the following 16 pages was created by talented young people just like you, while taking part in a series of creative workshops especially for RAWR Issue 6. This term I gave RAWR’s young participants lots of fun ideas for writing poems, taking the changing seasons and weather of autumn and winter as inspiration, as well as celebrations like Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas. There was also National Teacher’s Day to think about and World Poetry Day too, with this year’s theme being ‘stars’. So look out for different types of poems, including acrostic, haiku, sonnet and free verse, as well as rhyming of course, based on all these subjects! The photography workshops were interestingly varied too, with emphasis being given to elements of composition, including lines of force, as well as texture and lighting. Students were encouraged to look at the world from different viewpoint and camera angles, especially in their local environment. And they came up with some unique results, showing wonderful creativity under the guidance of PLUGGED IN’s Chief Photographer Darren Warner.

Some fab poetry from pupils at Hawthorn High School

T HE PARK The big black furry dog is very dark Playing with a round ball in the park He saw a cat in a bush and it made him bark His owner came along, his name was Mark He goes to Hawthorn High, he’s a bright spark They saw someone swimming in a rubber ring, it was a shark! UNIVERSE The universe is ful of stars One of the planets is red – it’s Mars You can’t drive on the moon in cars I want to collect stars in jars And put mine in a pretty vase RAINBOWS Sun and rain make a rainbow Seven colours all shiny and bright A big arch up in the sky Rainbows are so colourful STARS It was a beautiful starry night Up in the sky the stars are all bright And the moon is very shiny and white The shooting star leaves a trail of gli ttery light HALLOWEEN Dressing up is funny Wrapped up like a mummy We have lots of sweets When we trick or treat Orange pumpkins glow Ghosts walking slow Witches and back cats Broomsticks and bats

F IREWORKS Bonfire night is very bright Fireworks f ly through the night Sparkles and gli tter fal from the sky After the rockets are let f ly Fizz, whizz, pop, bang, f lash, oohh-aahh We see a beautiful rainbow and star SCHOOL TRIP We went to Cardiff Bay Ooh, I say What a lovely day Then we went to Barry We saw the sea And we had a cup of tea Later we went to the park And our friend Mark Said he saw a shark! HONEY I have a big dog, a black dog My dog’s name is Honey Honey ran off after a frog Cos the frog stole my money The frog hid under a log Now isn’t that funny! LOVE My heart beats with love My heart is filled with love Love comes with everybody Boys and girls fal in love And everybody is filled with happiness MILLIE My sister is called Millie She is just so silly She likes hopping When we go shopping My brother says it’s funny Cos she looks like a bunny

Enjoy these poems written by students at the Cana Centre Up the mountain on a sunny day All my bad thoughts and feelings f ly away I come up here to be me I always set myself free I let all my feelings f ly Then I sit down and cry As I walk down the hill I know that I will Be free Oh, how the stars shine bright Filling the sky ful of light I look up in the middle of the night And see such a beautiful sight Stars twinkling and shimmering so white Like a wonderful velvet kite War is a dangerous thing People fight to save us People take bullets Soldiers fight for our country Soldiers are sometimes scared Families get lonely Families feel worried War doesn’t change anything Leaves fal off the trees Leaves turn orange, red and brown Leaves f loat to the ground A soft wind blows cool The leaves on the trees rustle Then settle once more I can hear thunder Raindrops fal ing from the sky I can see a storm It’s a dark, freaky, windy night The wind whistling in the trees Children running around squealing Dressed up for trick or treating Spiders hanging from doors Webs all over your face Bags ful of sweets Knocking on people’s doors Everyone happy It’s Halloween!

Christmas is ful of excitement Snow sparkles on the ground A feast of food awaits The tree with an angel on top Lots of presents piled high Taking presents to the family Ripping paper off my presents Listening to the church bells ringing Cuddles on the sofa and a film One f lake of snow Has a wonderful glow Just one f lake gives us joy Doesn’t matter if you’re a girl or boy Snow is gli ttery and shiny It’s amazing it’s so tiny A shooting star! How I wonder at your sight You fill my world with light I am amazed by your might But now I must say good night Prince Charming! Here he comes Riding on his armoured stal ion To rescue thou graceful lady Long, wavy hair shining Set on the head of a face like nothing in this world Beautiful His silver armour protects him well From the fiery mouth of the dragon He fights like a beast Tearing the monster down into quarters He grabs fair lady, riding off into the sunset Big jol y giant Soaring through the sky Big friendly giant Flying so high He f lies round the world All in one night He f lies round the world Filling it ful of light Good old Santa!
