CONSTRUCTION & ARCHITECTURE

A Photographic Portfolio

CONTRUCTION & ARCHITECTURE A Photographic Portfolio by DARREN WARNER

It takes a unique photographic eye to make a visually pleasing picture of a distinct type of image and in this portfolio Construction & Architecture DARREN WARNER demonstrates the creative vision he has developed over his years of experience. With the majority of the work comprising of commissioned work, this portfolio not only highlights individual images but demonstrates Darren’s ability to interestingly construct bodies of images based around one area or theme as highlighted by the mini portfolios of ‘progress of works’ within these pages required by construction firms as evidence. Much of the work has come from two major road building projects that Darren was involved with. The first was the three year build of the Porth Relief Road in the Rhondda Valleys that started in June 2005 and was completed in October 2007. This followed the route of a disused railway line up the valley with all the hazards of close proximity construction work, as well as the erection of the massive Rheola Bridge which spanned a railway, a river and a road. The end result is a road that highlights the beauty of the valleys while making the area more accessible. The second project was the Church Village By-Pass, that started in September 2008 and was completed in August 2010, following a route through waterlogged fields full of treacherously thick mud. The resulting road, rather than having a negative impact on the landscape, actually enhances the surroundings and is one of the most beautiful new road constructions in Wales in recent times, winning many ecological awards. Throughout each road-build Darren’s photography has captured the progress of both the projects and provides evidence that road building is not a negative process as some people believe, but a way forward to a new future.
