ABOUT THE MINT JULEP
The Mint Julep originated in the southern U.S., during the eighteenth century. It has been served at Churchill Downs in association with the Kentucky Derby since 1938.
Beginning in 2015, Mint Juleps made with Old Forester Straight Bourbon Whisky have been ‘the official drink of the Kentucky Derby.’

MAKE YOUR OWN Ingredients
•4 mint leaves
•1 teaspoon powdered sugar
•½ cup prepared lemonade
•¼ cup water
Preparation
1.In a highball glass or silver cup, gently ‘muddle’ the mint, sugar and water to release the mint’s essential oils and juices.
2. Fill the glass with crushed or shaved ice and add in the lemonade.
3.Stir well until the glass is well frosted.
4.Garnish with a mint sprig.
Muddle (verb): To mash fruits, herbs and spices in the bottom of a glass to release their flavor, using a muddler – a bartender’s tool made of plastic, stainless steel or wood that is shaped like a small baseball bat and whose bottom may be textured, toothed, or smooth.
