Everything-as-a-Service:

The Key to Digital Innovation

Accelerating your digital journey with HPE GreenLake and Presidio in a hypercompetitive market

We know that technology has never been more important to business success — in nearly every industry and across the globe. From supporting a new age of remote and mobile work to enhancing customer experience with cloud-first applications, to embracing AI and rethinking the very fabric of how the business operates, technology is the foundation of everything.

However, the resources needed to build the infrastructure and systems on which to innovate are expensive and complex, often putting new technologies out of reach of most organizations. That is until the window to take the greatest advantage of them has already passed. Of course, the cloud is an option to help accelerate digital transformation. With its flexibility and OPEX model, the cloud reduces the capital cost associated with adopting the latest and greatest tech — but it isn’t a solution for every business or workload.

This brief eBook will look at how an as-a-service consumptionbased approach for everything — systems, infrastructure, and applications running on-premises, in the cloud, or at the edge — can help you modernize your IT environment and set you up to embrace innovation.

The problem with cloud

For most organizations moving to a cloud model is an inevitability. It affords enterprises with the speed and scalability they just can’t typically get with their on-premises infrastructures. It’s not a question of whether but when, how and where — that is what workloads —the migration will occur.

Not every workload is destined or even appropriate for the public cloud. While it can help provide the speed needed for today’s hypercompetitive market, it doesn’t have the compliance, control, or security that some organizations and applications need. This has forced many to adopt a hybrid approach, finding the right, complex balance between cloud and traditional on-premises infrastructures.

Of course, add to the mix the growing number of applications and IOS technologies running at the edge, and complexity becomes ratcheted up even further.

HPE GreenLake: A cloud-like experience — everywhere

With its convenience, agility, and flexibility, businesses and users alike are looking for the cloud experience. A cloud experience accelerates innovation and technology adoption but when IT can’t (or won’t) move fast enough, it gives business units the option to just go out and buy the capacity and services they need on the public cloud, giving rise to shadow IT.

What we do in the shadows

If “shadow IT” sounds dark and dangerous, it’s because it is. As public cloud services become more prevalent, it’s easy for frustrated business users to bypass IT and even set up their own decentralized IT shops. The result is a fragmented, dysfunctional, and non-compliant IT landscape that is inefficient and wasteful, risks data leaks and breaches, and costs more in the end.

What is HPE GreenLake?

HPE GreenLake is an IT-as-a-Service consumption model that brings a cloud-like experience across organizations’ edges, colocations, and data centers.

It brings an OPEX model to on-premises IT resource deployment, freeing organizations from the capital costs of building and managing their own infrastructure and allowing them to focus on IT instead of innovation.

HPE GreenLake is “the cloud that comes to you,” offering the benefits of the cloud experience whether in multiple clouds, on-premises, at a colocation, or at the edge.

So long to overprovisioning

In the past, making sure you had the capacity to meet bursts in demand or unexpected projects, meant “throwing money at the problem” through over-provisioning compute, storage, and security resources. That doesn’t work in today’s economy. Overprovisioning doesn’t just cost more; it adds to complexity and creates waste. HPE GreenLake eliminates this by providing resources on demand in which you only pay for what you need, with a buffer capacity to respond to unexpected demands.

Based on actual metered usage, organizations pay for only the resources they use on an OPEX basis. This consumption-based approach lets organizations act quickly to new market demands, eliminates over-provisioning, speeds up IT procurement and, as a result, time to value. It provides cloud-like elasticity to scale up (or down) quickly as needed.

Perhaps most importantly, HPE GreenLake simplifies once complex IT environments by unifying everything under centralized management with fewer operational silos. Hardware and software are installed on the organization’s premises by HPE or Presidio as a certified partner. This installation includes reserve capacity to scale for future or unanticipated needs. HPE and Presidio then implement, manage, and support each GreenLake solution, so the organization’s IT team can focus on high-value tasks like AI tools or remote work adoption, not routine infrastructure management.

Staying ahead of the competition

HPE GreenLake gives organizations the platform they need to innovate and stay ahead of the competition.

Always up to date – Because hardware and software are delivered as a service, they are continuously updated, with organizations paying for only what they use. And, again, with the burden of securing and updating those resources taken off IT teams, while they can maintain cost control, risk mitigation, and compliance. HPE uses the advanced forecasting capabilities of HPE Infosight to predict what customers need now and tomorrow — addressing any issues before they become a problem.

Flexibility and scale – HPE GreenLake gives organizations the elasticity needed to scale up (or down) as needed, giving organizations the confidence of knowing they always have the resources they need — in a pay-per-use model. For industries with bursts in traffic or activity, like finance or retail, the once inevitable risk of workload-related system crashes is a thing of the past.

Unlocking AI opportunities

Almost overnight since the launch of ChatGPT interest in using AI to unlock business value from data has skyrocketed. However, few technologies have a heavier resource demand. Testing and training AI requires supercomputers that most organizations can’t build from scratch.

Fortunately, HPE has announced GreenLake for LLM (large language models), an on-demand, multitenant supercomputing environment as a cloud service, plus the architectural expertise and large language models needed to train and fine-tune large-scale AI models quickly on-demand. It joins a host of existing HPE GreenLake services for AI, machine learning, and analytics.
