THE DALI MUSEUM
One Dali Boulevard 727-823-3767 TheDali.org; @TheDaliMuseum #TheDali The Dali features one of the most acclaimed collections of a single modern artist in the world. It houses more than 2,400 pieces of art by Dali, including 96 oil paintings and eight of the artist’s renowned Master Works—paintings that measure more than five feet. Designed by architect Yann Weymouth of HOK, the Dali Museum combines the rational with the fantastical: a simple rectangle with 18-inch-thick hurricane-proof walls out of which erupts a large geodesic glass bubble known as the enigma providing a kaleidoscopic view of St. Petersburg. The enigma, comprised of 1,062 triangular pieces of glass, stands 75 feet at its tallest point, a 21st Century homage to the dome that adorns Dali’s museum in Spain. Inside, the Dali houses a helical staircase resembling a strand of DNA. The helix was recognized by Dali as evidence of the divine in nature. The Dali Mathematical Garden creates a unique environment of learning and tranquility, allowing students to experience the relationship between math and nature. A labyrinth in the southeast corner invites exploration and well-being. The museum’s Café Gala, named in honor of Dali’s wife, is a casual eatery operated by local hospitality leader Steve Westphal, profiled as a Vinoy club member in this issue. (See 18
