Art that takes you by surprise
Mennyire vagyunk érzékenyek, vagy egyáltalán tudatában olyan világméretű problémáknak mint a társadalmi-faji egyenlőtlenségek vagy a klímaváltozás? Kit és hogyan fogadunk el, kivel ülnék le egy asztalhoz, kivel osztanánk meg az ételt és kivel nem? Hogyan nézünk szembe a természeti környezetünk nem is annyira távoli jövőben bekövetkező radikális változásával? A Placcc Fesztivál szervezésekor hagyjuk, hogy a művészek által felvetett témák vezessenek minket – a művészeket pedig érezhetően egyre erősebben foglalkoztatják a fenti kérdések. A társadalmi-faji elfogadást és kirekesztést feszegető részvételi előadás, a klímaváltozás miatt évtizedeken belül víz alá kerülő holland sziget emlékezetét Budapestre „hozó” disztópikus installáció, a lehetséges világvégékkel foglalkozó városi játék és helyspecifikus egyetemi vizsgaelőadások, egy városnegyed jövője gyerekszemmel…

Are we sensible to or at least aware of such global problems like social and racial inequality or the climate change? Who and how do we accept, who we would share our dinner table and food with? How do we face the radical changes of our natural environment which will happen in the not so distant future? While programming Placcc Festival, we let ourselves be led by the artists and we follow the themes they propose – and artists are apparently more and more intrigued by the questions mentioned above. A participative performance questioning social-racial inclusion and exclusion, a dystopian installation which reserves the memories of a Dutch island which will disappear under the sea within decades, urban game and university students’ performances exploring possible apocalypses, a narrative about the future of a district through the eyes of the local kids…

I stop if you stop I stop if the city stops I stop if I dream !? Maybe not even while sleeping...waking...waking I need you to make me stop wherever I am, whenever I can I don’t remember anymore “We are interested in mental and physical exhaustion, loss of balance and the desperate need of connection to others in relation to a state that can be both very personal and representative in a society that struggles for its values.” Four performers, two from Budapest and two from Cairo explore the constantly growing phenomenon of burnout in the form of a public space dance performance. Kenyértörés Az egyiptomi és magyar konyha által ihletett előadásunk a közös étkezés és az étel megosztásának szokásait kutatja. A magyar és egyiptomi táncosok részvételi produkciója egy mozgásművészeti előadás és egy rendhagyó vacsora kombinációja. Előadásunkban közös vacsorára invitáljuk a nézőket – rendhagyó módon. Performatív non-verbális vacsoránk a közös étkezés közösségépítő vagy éppen kirekesztő természetét vizsgája. Az étel megosztására való nyitottságunk nem csak személyes szokásainkat és a társadalmi intimitással való viszonyunkat tükrözi, hanem kulturális hátterünket és politikai környezetünket is. Would you have dinner with me?
The participatory performance by Hungarian and Egyptian dancers is about the complex relation of food, eating, community, exclusivity and inclusivity. It explores in an immersive way how the act of eating, sharing the food can create community, how it can be inclusive or exclusive depending on who we are sharing our food or not willing to share our food. The artists aim to approach global issues through personal stories - and also the other way round... The creative process has been based on interviews made with the people of very different age, profession, education and wealth situation. The interviews served as a canvas of a personal and subjective oral (hi)stories about eating, but also about community and belonging. The performance is an immersive and multisensorial piece where audience is invited to sit around a big table, to share a simple food and to use their taste, smell and touch. (Szelíd, de bátor közeledés az ismeretlenhez) - kiállítás és játékesemény
Az Átváltozó Egyesület hisz abban, hogy a játék, mint természetes és népszerű tevékenység, a világ megismerésének és a gondolati szabadság megtapasztalásának elsődleges eszköze lehet. A kulturális tudástárunkban szereplő apokalipszis víziók és a rájuk adható túlélési reakciók a pillanatnyilag létező társadalmi és fizikai valósághoz való viszonyunkat tükrözik. A különböző játékok során az elképzelt szimbolikus jelentésrétegek összeköthetőek, ezáltal valós változások jöhetnek létre. A világvége kapcsán kialakult berögződéseket és félelmeket hívja elő és írja át az apokalipszis-tréning. A „tréning” egy játékeseményből és az azt megelőző kiállításból áll, ahol az elmúlt fél évben zajló Apokalipszis szakkör élményeit és tanulságait ismerheti meg a közönség. Mindez a látogatók aktivitásától függően egy héten keresztül egyre bővül, így a tapasztalatok nem maradnak az Apokalipszis szakkör világvége bunkerében. Apocalypse-training
(A Gentle yet Brave Approach to the Unknown) - exhibition and game event
Transforming Association believes that playing as a highly natural and popular activity can be a primary tool for getting the world known better and experimenting freedom of thoughts. Culturally acquired Apocalypse visions and our survival reactions reflect our relationship to the present social and physical reality. Games can help us to connect imaginatory layers of meaning and provoke real changes. Patterns and fears related to the end of the world can be evoked and transcribed by the Apocalypse Training. The „training” is composed of a game and an exhibition where the experiences and learnings of the Apocalypse workshops organised during the past 6 months will be presented – which can be developed further by the visitors during a week. Location-specific exam performances by the students of Academy of Theatre and Film in Budapest The students of the department of dramaturgy at the Academy of Theatre and Film in Budapest led by their professor Judit Garai prepared 3 location-specific performances as their exam pieces at the end of their 3 year of studies. Different locations, different forms, one thing is still similar: all the three performances tackle – in this way or another – the end of the world.

Az installáció természet és ember disztópikus kapcsolatának vízióját tárja fel. E disztópia egy olyan állapotot vetít előre, ahol kizárólag az emberi faj túléléséhez nélkülözhetetlen fajok maradtak fenn, a többi – pótolható – faj kihalt vagy skanzenbe került kiállítási tárgyként – megfosztva a természetben korábban betöltött szerepétől és funkciójától. A tengerszint emelkedésével a hollandiai Terschelling szigete hamarosan el fog tűnni. Ha egy archívumba zárnánk Terschelling létezésének gondosan őrzött részleteit, mik kerülnének oda? Az installáció 2019 júniusában a hollandiai Oerol Festival-on volt látható, ahonnan elhoztuk a sziget megragadott részleteit, hogy azokon keresztül felhívjuk a figyelmet az emberi létezés törékenységére. The installation unfolds a dystopian vision of the relationship between nature and men. The core of this dystopia depicts a state where nature is conquered by humans, where the only species that survive are the ones that are indispensable for the existence of the human species. Everything else that is replaceable is either extinct or part of a skansen as an exhibition item – deprived from its former role or function in nature. Due to rising sea levels Terschelling will soon disappear. If an archive was built to store some carefully chosen fragments of the existence of Terschelling what would it contain? The installation was first shown at Oerol Festival in June 2019 and aims to carry the captured fragments of Terschelling to bring attention to the fragility of human beings. A 15 helyi előadóval bemutatott Drift című egyórás köztéri hangkoreográfia eredetileg a Prágai Quadriennálé felkérésére készült, Budapesten a Placcc Fesztivál keretében látható első alkalommal. A hordozható hangfalakkal felszerelt előadók “láthatatlan útvonalakat” követnek, így egy helyspecifikusan komponált mozgó soundscape születik a térben. A folyamatos mozgásban lévő immerzív kompozíció és az abból kibontakozó organikus koreográfia hipnotikus audio-vizuális élményt nyújt a nézőknek és a járókelőknek.

Drift
Drift is a one hour long sound choreography, composed for large public space, and performed with 15 local performers. Originally commissioned by Prague Quadrennial the first performance was shown at the Prague Exhibition Grounds Plaza. In Drift more then a dozen performers are following “invisible pathways” on a large public square and its close surroundings. On these pathways the performers are carrying around portable speakers from which the site-specifically composed score of the piece is creating a unique moving soundscape. The constantly moving surround composition and the emerging organic choreography are creating a hypnotizing and unique audio-visual performance experience for the observers.

A város hangja című multidiszciplináris alkotás a mindennapi élet szubjektív érzékelését vizsgálja különböző európai helyszíneken, egymásba gyúrva tényeket és fikciót, emlékeket és értelmezéseket, személyes és kollektív történeteket és történelmeket. 2019 februárjában az alkotók tíz napot töltöttek Csepelen, elmélyedve a negyed ipari múltjában és jelenlegi helyzetében. Ezt követően Nada és Mark visszatérnek Csepelre, és helyi gyerekekkel közösen hoznak létre egy előadást, amely felidézi a múlt kollektív emlékeit és a negyed lehetséges jövőjéről mesél. The Voice of a City
The Voice of a City is a multi-disciplinary project that focuses on subjective perceptions on everyday life around Europe, mixing fiction, fact, memory and interpretation and bringing together personal and collective (hi)stories. In February 2019, the artists were invited to investigate life on Csepel, its past industrial life but also its current climate. Following this initial research Nada and Mark now return to Csepel to work with a group of kids on a timeline performance that mixes personal as well as collective events from the past with thoughts on Csepel’s potential future. Collaborating partner: Meetlab The program is realised in frame of In Situ ACT. In Situ ACT is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. The performance is part of the Flanders on the Move program series.

Nermin Habib lés Ezzat Ismail egyiptomi táncosok és koreográfusok két workshopot is tartanak a Placcc keretében. Míg Nermin az autentikus hastánc és kortárs tánc fúzíójával, addig Ezzat az Egyiptomban napjainkban elterjedtté vált Sha3by és a modern mozdulatművészet ötvözetével ismerteti meg az érdeklődőket.
Nermin Habib and Ezzat Ismail Egyptian dancers and choreographers will give workshops in frame of Placcc. Nermin will introduce the participants into the fusion of oriental (belly) dance and contemporary dance, while Ezzat will share a mixed experience through the Egyptian local new form of dance (Sha3by) with a contemporary dance approach.

A #szabadonbalaton a Balaton ökológiai igényeire és kihívásaira, valamint a vonatkozó társadalmi szemléletváltás szükségességére hívja fel a figyelmet ökológiai-művészeti projektek formájában. A PLACCC Fesztivál keretében a #szabadonbalaton menüje egy kifejezetten erre az alkalomra összeállított dunai koktéllal egészül ki.
#szabadonbalaton is an ecological-art initiative that aims to draw attention to the ecological needs and risks of Lake Balaton, and the need of a change in civil awareness and practices. During PLACCC Festival, a special edition cocktail of its menu reflects on the Danube ecosystem as well.

IN SITU – európai hálózat a köztéri művészetért Az IN SITU hálózat tagjai olyan fesztiválok és produkciós központok, amelyek kilépve a művészet hagyományos helyszíneiről a legkülönbözőbb kontextusokból inspirálódnak, legyen az egy metropolis vagy egy kisváros, ipari környezet vagy természeti táj. Az IN SITU tevékenysége magában foglalja koprodukciók létrehozását, művészeti projektek turnéztatását, alkotói laboratóriumok szervezését. A hálózat elsődleges céljának tartja a fiatal és / vagy a köztéri művészetek terültére első alkalommal kilépő művészek támogatását, új alkotói irányok keresését, szakmai események és rezidenciaprogramok szervezését.

The membership of IN SITU represents a diverse cross-section of practices and intentions, operating in widely divergent contexts from large cities to small towns, industrial environments to natural landscapes. The primary actions of IN SITU include co-production and circulation of artistic works, hothouses and laboratories to identify emerging artists and develop new ideas, professional seminars and residencies.
LAND (Land stewards AND artists) LAND nemzetközi együttműködés célja, hogy olyan művészeti szervezeteknek nyújtson közös platformot, amelyek munkájuk során fontosnak érzik a természethez való kapcsolódást. A LAND keretében művészek, producerek, környezetvédelmi szakemberek és szervezetek közösen keresik a művészet szerepét a komoly környezeti problémák, valamint a természeti környezethez, a tudományhoz és örökséghez való kapcsolatunk feltárásában. LAND (Land stewards AND artists) LAND is a partnership that focuses on bringing together arts organisations that have a specialist interest in working in the landscape. TICKET INFORMATION Most of the programmes of PLACCC 2019 can be visited free of charge. The following programmes are ticketed:
Ziggurat Project: Would you have dinner with me? Full price: 2000 HUF Reduced price (student / pensioners): 1500 HUF (The price includes a light vegetarian dinner.)
Location-specific performances by the students of Academy of Theatre and Film in Budapest Full price: 1500 HUF Reduced price (student / pensioners): 1200 HUF
Nada Gambier – Mark Etchells: The Voice of a City Full price: 1500 HUF Reduced price (student / pensioners): 1200 HUF Csepel-residents: 1000 HUF
Tickets can be bought online and via mobile app at www.placcc.jegy.hu, or in the ticket offices of Interticket. More information and ticket order: zsofia.szerecz@gmail.com. Tickets can be purchased in limited numbers at the locations of the programmes, a half hour before the performances. At the locations cash payment only.
