Day Club Trip All year the staff in our Day Clubs have organised various fundraising events from coffee mornings to raffles to raise some extra money so that we can treat carers and the people they care for on the holidays we take. This year’s fundraising money went towards the cost of lunches there and back, the distillery tour, transport and additional staffing hours. Our trip this year took us up to Strathpeffer. 31 carers and the people they cared for had the chance to have a wee holiday and get away from their normal routine. The whole trip was organised from start to finish by our fantastic Day Club staff for those attending to enjoy. We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days at the Highland Bay Hotel and enjoyed a packed programme of activities and entertainment. Travelling up on Friday we stopped at a café in Kingussie, which was particularly nice for one carer as she went to high school there and her mum, who comes to the Day Club, remembered a lot about the area which invoked lots of nice memories for them both.

The hotel had a traditional Scottish entertainment programme and we were lucky to be in Strathpeffer to see the pipe band and highland dancers in the local square. Our trip to Glen Ord Distillery was really interesting. It’s the only place that Glen Ord singleton whisky is made and sold in Europe. As its sole purpose is to be distributed in the Asian market. Everyone really enjoyed the tour, with the highlight being a taste of the 12-year-old singleton whisky at the end. As part of the 4-day holiday we visited places such as Beauly and Inverness and we enjoyed some of the local highland hospitality and eateries.

“Thank you for helping to give us a few days away at the weekend. It was much appreciated and lots of laughs!”

Day Club Costs

C.A.P.A Research Programme

As part of our Adult Carers Service our Day Clubs offer respite places for the people whom our carers care for.

In May our Day Clubs in Perth and Blairgowrie joined the Care about Physical Activity (C.A.P.A) Research Programme.

The cost for attending one of our Day Clubs is £25.00. This is inclusive of lunch and transport, activities and day trips.

The opportunity came about on the back of our attendance at “Go for Gold” at Bell‘s Sports Centre this year. The purpose of the programme is to promote health and wellbeing using principles of a selfimprovement framework.

The staff always put lots of effort into the planning and preparations of these holidays to ensure everyone has a great time. So a big thank you to them for all their hard work and dedication, especially to Sheena, Linda, Alison and Gosia for attending this year’s trip. We would also like to thank Kathleen Frew, Vice Chair of PKAVS, who popped in for a visit on Saturday night to say hello to everyone as she was in the area with her walking group.

“Thank you to the carers who accompanied us to Strathpeffer last weekend. Having the willing help where it was needed made such a difference to our enjoyment of a really special holiday”

We will be looking at using simple solutions and practical approaches to enable all our Day Club attendees to choose to be more active every day. George will be championing the first stage of the programme and will be working towards improving his fitness by taking both ‘step’ and ‘sit to stand’ challenges.

Coming up... Our next Bingo Tea will be on Monday 20th November from 7.30pm contact Linda McGougan for more information.
