VISION OF HOUSTON THE FLOOD MUSEUM Project Description— Houston, called the “Bayou City” is cut through with verdant swaths of land made resistant to development by their propensity to flood. Its downtown sits where two of these bayous, the Buffalo and the White Oak, cross. At the northern end of downtown— across the Buffalo Bayou from the core of 1970s and 1980s office towers, the vibrant theater district, and major civic institutions—a 500,000-squarefoot concrete warehouse and office building sits on the site of what was once Houston’s Grand Central Station.

VISION - Houston Flood Museum will be a new gateway for the development of sector 17. Houston has several freeways and bridges that interact with the inner hub of Houston city and form a node; I felt this location should be a CONNECTING BRIDGE of street and bayou that will serve as a public meeting node. This node provides an ability to use the bayou while remaining visibly connected to Sector 17.

This Flood Museum will be a vision of the future.

This building embodies a harmonious fusion of past and present, preserving the cultural narrative embedded in the city’s history. Instead of imposing its presence, it delicately elevates the sense of place through a modern architectural approach, ensuring the neighborhood’s essence thrives and resonates seamlessly into the future.

Site Context The site Context focuses on the convergence of Buffalo Bayou and White River Oaks in Houston, highlighting Buffalo Bayou’s narrative from downtown to Galveston and its pivotal role in the development of White River Oaks. Emphasizing the essence of Buffalo Bayou, the design integrates expansive open spaces through large circles, fostering a seamless connection with the urban environment. Additionally, dashed lines delineate the prospective growth trajectory of Sector 17, envisioning a harmonious fusion of heritage and progress

Atmospheric section The Atmospheric section illustrates the current and future development of Sector 17 in Houston, emphasizing its transformative role as a threshold. Inspired by James Turrell’s concept, the drawing captures a unique atmospheric essence, symbolizing the project’s significance as a gateway to progress. Through careful design and thematic elements, it conveys how Sector 17 will serve as a pivotal point in Houston’s evolution, marking a transition towards expansive growth and opportunity.

Site Analysis

Site Situated within Houston’s historical district, the site is enveloped by iconic historical buildings. Its distinct features include the majestic White River Oak and the unique topology. Accessibility is paramount, with well-established pedestrian pathways seamlessly linking to main transportation hubs. Understanding the sun’s path illuminates the site’s potential for harnessing natural resources effectively. This blend of historical significance, natural elements, and strategic connectivity underscores the site’s exceptional character and potential for sustainable development

TASHKEEL ART HUB The Tashkeel Art Hub, a visionary proposal for the G+2 Art Studio. This dynamic space encompasses 44 high-cube 40’ containers, totaling an expansive 2350 sq.m. The design integrates a select number of studios with double-height ceilings, utilizing prefab structures to create a unique artistic environment.

At the heart of the Tashkeel Art Hub is a grand entrance featuring a double-height lobby that seamlessly connects to both the gallery area and intimate studios. The design philosophy prioritizes limitations in mass and opacity, while promoting continuity through openness and transparency.

Noteworthy features include the incorporation of enormous windows and doors, significantly amplifying the studio’s size and brightness.

The first-floor deck area is strategically connected to select studios, offering a versatile space for workshops and various events.

T.I.M.E Management Office TIME is an innovative office management building in Dubai, spanning two stories and housing 60 containers within 16,707 sq ft. Its core concept revolves around creating a level difference within the interior space, seamlessly reflected in the elevations. The design prioritizes functionality, efficiency, flexibility, comfort, accessibility, and sustainability.

Beginning with hand sketches and mood images, the project was meticulously developed using Revit and Lumion for tender submission, ensuring a comprehensive and visually stunning proposal.

ROCK GARDEN - ODISHA .

Odisha, a prominent state in India, is keen on enhancing community engagement by fostering the development of open spaces within its cities. Berhampur, a bustling town recognized for its vibrant trading activities, is currently in the transformative phase of evolving into a city. The state government envisions the creation of a rock garden on the outskirts of Berhampur. During a site visit, I encountered intriguing elements such as naturally occurring rocks and a petite mountain adorned with boulders. These distinctive features prompted me to delve into the topography of the site and its surrounding environment.

Drawing inspiration from my previous experience in designing and developing landscapes for airports in a reputable firm, I was excited to apply my architectural expertise to this project. The unique natural elements found on the site and my experience in airport landscape design which helped me to Design a distinctive and harmonious rock garden in Berhampur. This endeavor aligns with the government’s vision of fostering community interaction through thoughtfully crafted open spaces and with the eagerness of bringing my architectural vision to life in the evolving cityscape of Berhampur.

SLUM REHAB CHENNAI - THESIS (2018)

RUTHERPURAM Nestled in the heart of Chennai, Rutherpuram is a distinctive slum, emblematic of the urban challenges faced by many in the city. Positioned around the central core, this neighborhood is separated by the Buckingham Canal, a vital waterway facilitating trade between states and the city’s central districts. Unfortunately, the influx of migrants over the past two decades has taken a toll on the canal, rendering it contaminated and compromising its once crucial role.

Motivated by a desire to propose comprehensive improvements rather than mere rehabilitation, I have chosen the theme of “Slum Rehabilitation” for this particular area. Notably, the government’s policy in recent decades has favored the development of slums on the outskirts of cities, inadvertently leading to a lack of employment opportunities and an upsurge in crime rates. In addressing the challenges faced by Rutherpuram, the objective is to explore strategies that go beyond conventional rehabilitation, aiming to enhance the overall quality of life and economic prospects for its residents.

CREATING OPPORTUNITY Introducing a transformative architectural master plan tailored for slum improvement, displaying exceptional resilience in adverse conditions. Prioritizing utility enhancement, the design ensures improved water and electricity access. A strategically positioned market hub with a plethora of businesses fosters employment opportunities, significantly diminishing crime risks. The integration of efficient public transportation links seamlessly with community spaces, including halls, elementary, and secondary schools. Environmental consciousness is woven into the fabric, discouraging litter through river steps and a temple. Abundant open, green spaces cultivate a strong community bond, a cornerstone in crime prevention. This visionary construction promises a sense of belonging crucial for crime reduction among local inhabitants

Drawing Title: The Story of Harvey flood Student Name: Prabhakaran Elangovan Professor: Asmaa Olwi Project Description: This Hand Drawing reflects the combination of two stories from different video clip which taken during harvey flood 2017 * CCTV footage shows a lift lobby area overrun with floodwaters during a Harvey event. The clip depicted the rising water level as floodwaters enters the lobby area through the elevator doors. * In the second video, an adolescent bravely stands amidst Harvey floodwaters engulfing her home. Despite the deluge, she shares her heart through the piano, once her cherished sanctuary. The accompanying line drawing vividly illustrates the dual narrative of the Harvey flood, using dotted lines for water, black hatches for reflections and emotions, and white hatches for resilient surfaces. Four key points capture the essence of this poignant tale.

Details: The Line drawing reflects the two story of harvey flood. In which Dotted lines denotes the water , Black hatches denotes the reflection of water and the dark emotions, The white hatches denotes the surfaces.
