Windbreaks are ideal for all types of crops, from container grown nursery stock to field crops. Artificial windbreaks will give you immediate protection along with constant permeability.

Unlike natural windbreaks, they don’t compete with crops for nutrients or water.

A windbreak should face the prevailing wind to give the best protection.

A windbreak with less than 50% permeability will give a reduction in the destructive value of the wind.

However 50% - 55% permeability has been found to be the most efficient.

Avoid gaps in the windbreak or where the net does not reach the ground as this can result in local acceleration of the wind.

Although a dense (e.g. 90%) windbreak has a more immediate effect of reducing windspeed, a 50% windbreak will give more protection over a longer distance.

The size of the post is relative to the height of the windbreak and the strength of the material chosen. See diagram for recommended construction. The netting should be fixed to the side of the posts facing the wind.

When using lightweight material the position of the horizontal supporting wires should be marked carefully on the uprights, an allowance must be made for the net to be folded around the top and bottom wires.

Loktex monofilament 40 is the standard product within the range of knitted windbreaks. Made from high density polyethylene monofilament, it is designed to reduce wind speed by 45%. Supplied as standard with eyelets top and bottom for easy fixing and is cost effective and light.

Loktex monofilament 50 is a superior knitted windbreak constructed from high density polyethylene monofilament, it is designed to reduce wind speed by 50%.

Both the standard and heavy duty windbreaks are made from extruded HDPE and are designed to reduce wind speed by approx. 55%. The standard is the traditional material used for many years.

The heavy duty is more of a cladding type windbreak material with reinforced strands, making it a much stronger material.

Tildenet Tunnel Covers are made to measure sheets of one of our own fabrics designed to reduce light emittance within a required area, normally produced to fit directly onto polytunnels. These covers can be made from any grades from our Loktex range of shade fabrics in any colour as well as the Monofilament

Time Thermagro crop protection fleece is made from non-woven spun bonded polypropylene and has been developed to be durable yet very strong. Ideal frost protection for all agricultural and horticultural needs. The standard stocked material is 18gsm meaning it has a 10% greater density than the standard

17gsm on the market today. Thermagro creates an excellent microclimate promoting growth of crops to increase yields for a potentially earlier harvest. The fleece provides protection from frost, keeping the crop temperature above a critical level.

Maxi Net is thermal crop cover, very similar in application to the Thermagro non-woven fleece. This net is very lightweight and can sit directly onto the crop, providing an economical solution to protecting crops from frosts. Due to the microclimate it creates, it can keep a temperature of 3 degrees higher than above the net. Unlike Thermagro Fleece, the Maxi Net is much stronger and can be re-used for several seasons, reducing

problem of waste management and disposable costs. Due to its strength, the Maxi Net is the ideal solution for windy sites where non-woven products can suffer damage. Maxi Net is a transparent fabric and allows sunlight to pass through it to the crop allowing for excellent photosynthesis as well as allowing much needed water to pass to the crop.

Loktex is also semi-permeable, meaning high level of air flow is still achievable.

The tank covers are supplied as standard with reinforced webbing, brass eyelets, D rings and webbing straps along the cover. For added reinforcement, Union Jack webbing is often recommend, meaning a combination of both cross and diagonal webbing.

Anti-Bird Netting PN1 is an economical anti-bird netting made from HDPE single stitch monofilament thread. PN1 is extremely lightweight and is available in large widths, ideal for covering large areas.

Can be installed onto a frame work system to form a cage or laid directly onto the crop.

Spray guards are an ideal solution for protecting young trees from damage caused by herbicides due to the solid 30cm plastic base. The top 30cm is an open 5mm mesh, allowing the tree to

Propagation Rootrainers™ The Secret of Rootrainers

ABOUT ROOTRAINERS™

Originally conceived as an invention to improve the success rate of conifers, the Rootrainer system is now in widespread use in many markets.

Rootrainers are the perfect start for nearly all plants, and especially those that are sensitive to disturbance and require deep root runs. Ideal for growing on seeds, seedlings, plugs and cuttings.

The Rootrainer system is made up of deep seed trays, divided into separate segments known as ‘books’. They are unique because they open up like a book, for easy inspection and easy transplanting.

In the last 20 years, over 60 million Rootrainer cells have been sold to professional growers throughout the world and the resulting plants are now specified in many landscape and forestry contracts. Tildenet offers support to both large and small growers, advising on the use of Rootrainers for a wide variety of plants, from strawberries to potatoes, vines to date palms, conifers and quercus.

The enormous success of Rootrainers since their introduction in the UK and Europe and their widespread adoption for the growing of trees and shrubs as well as flowers, fruit and vegetables, is due to the many advantages they possess for nurseryman, foresters and horticulturists alike.

FLEXIBILITY

Rootrainers are available in a number of different sizes to accommodate the widest possible range of plant species.

Rootrainers are the only modular system which allows plants to be spaced out without re-potting.

QUALITY

Rootrainers encourage optimum root formation including strong, straight roots, a fundamental requirement of healthy and successful growth.

The rectangular shape provides a greater surface area and the grooves allow more roots to develop on the outside of the plug. The air-pruning design means no root repairs — just fibrous straight roots.

The main root grows straight down the grooved cell towards the large drainage opening at the bottom.

The root makes contact with the air and dies off.

The plant then compensates by producing new root growth, with no root balls.

PACKING AND PLANT DELIVERY Rootrainer plants are easily extracted from the ‘open books’ without ‘shock’ (even when frozen), for grading, packing and transplanting.

The rectangular root plugs pack tightly into uniform bundles in plastic film for safe and economic delivery. Alternatively, high value plants can be delivered in the Rootrainers books, which provide optimum protection, using the custom designed Rootrainers Mail Packs.

Vigoroot works using an air-pruning process, when the root tips reach the side of the Vigoroot fabric, an air-pruning process takes place, enabling the roots to continue to develop without rootballing, thereby reducing the need to re-pot.

The strengthened root system can then take on more nutrients, befitting the entire plant.

Tildenet Net Pallet Wrap is designed as a superior alternative to traditional stretch films. It is a very cost effective and efficient way to wrap products onto pallets, especially where the product needs to breathe.

The stretch wrap offers up to 30% extra due to the elasticity of the product, meaning less material is required per pallet. The wrap is used on a variety of applications including turf, flowers, fish, fruits and vegetables.

The net allows the circulation of air through the pallet, meaning a build up of condensation does not happen and keeps the product fresh for transportation.
