Anti-racism champions honoured Winnipeg – The Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) celebrated its 10th biennial Awards of Excellence Gala Dinner at the Delta Marriott Hotel last September 27. The event celebrated the achievements in the struggle against racism in Canada and acknowledged best practices and excellence in the field of anti-racism. It also marked the end of the 2018 Best Practices program, which highlights the different programs, strategies, or initiatives developed to combat racism and promote positive race relations across Canada’s multicultural communities. To celebrate achievements in the struggle against racism in Winnipeg and the province of Manitoba, the CRRF presented 14 Community Champion Special Awards to Dr. Rey D. Filipino rom-com on the prairies The early Filipino-Canadian experience here on the prairies is the setting of Prairie Theatre Exchange’s season opener for 2018/19. Winnipeg actors Stephanie Sy and Dutchess Cayetano star in the play Prairie Nurse, a story of welcoming that is part farce, part romantic comedy and part cultural history. Running from October 3 to 21, Prairie Nurse, is playwright Marie Beath Badian’s love letter to her own mother’s immigration story.
