Lito Taruc, beloved CKJS newscaster signs off Lito Taruc, veteran newscaster on CKJS Radio’s daily show, Good Morning Philippines, succumbed to a heart attack on November 17, 2020. He was 62 years old. Lito was born on June 29, 1958 in Gapan, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. He moved to Winnipeg in 1979 and worked for almost two decades at Versatile farm equipment manufacturer before joining CKJS in 1997 as the news director. Brother of late DZRH news anchor, Joe Taruc, in the Philippines, Lito was also a trusted voice in media here in Canada. As the news director of Good Morning Philippines, Lito developed a keen desire to serve the community. Most prominent as a past President of the Philippine Association of Manitoba Inc. Winnipeg-Filipino movie gets VOD release The hit Winnipeg-Filipino movie, I Propose We Never See Each Other Again After Tonight, is now showing on several Video On Demand (VOD) outlets on. Audiences are now able to watch the movie from the safety of their own homes on Rogers, Shaw, Telus, Bell, Vubiquity, Cogeco, iTunes, Sony, Cineplex, and Google. Hoopla will also release the film on December 29th. The film, with a cast of mainly Winnipeg Filipino actors, including Hera Nalam, Andrea Macasaet, and Mithus Mallari, has become this year’s
come-from-behind success story – despite having no marketing budget in the midst of a pandemic and cinemas being shut down for a second time across the country. The movie was originally set for theatrical release last March but was delayed due to the first pandemic lockdown. When it was finally released in August, it spent its first three weeks as one of “Canada’s Top Five Canadian Box Office Successes” in Playback magazine. It was held over for 10 consecutive weeks at the Cineplex Northgate and eight weeks at the Cineplex McGillivray in Winnipeg, seven
