CÓDIGO POSTAL IGOR CALVO Entre la realidad y la ficción “Código Postal” muestra fotografías de hogares temporales, lugares desprovistos de presencia humana pero con rastros muy visibles del paso de personas ocupando tales espacios. Sabemos que alguien habita allí pero no podemos verlo. Sabemos que en el momento en que fue tomada la fotografía ese lugar existía, pero no tenemos ninguna certeza de que continúe allí. Registro sin manipulación del escenario, imágenes que van acompañadas de textos que no describen la fotografía ni nos aportan más datos sobre cuándo, qué o dónde están tomadas, textos que parecen estar disociados de la misma y que alejan la imagen de su “propósito” documental. Textos extraídos de medios de comunicación y libros, textos actuales que nos remiten a la realidad e inmediatez (está pasando ahora), pero que sacados de su contexto y acompañando las fotografías (a modo de pie de página, nota o descripción) nos hacen desconectarnos de esa supuesta realidad y preguntarnos qué es lo que tratan de decirnos exactamente. Me planteo una reflexión sobre las nociones de realidad y ficción, a través de la situación (i)real de todas aquellas personas que han hecho de la calle su hogar, de la cronicidad de una situación de desamparo, injusticia y desigualdad que pretendemos obviar. Al no haber presencia humana en las imágenes, lo que encontramos en esos espacios son el reflejo del propio espectador al ver la obra, esto no solo “sumerge” al mismo espectador en la realidad de ese hogar temporal en la calle sino que nos hace reflexionar sobre nuestra propia percepción de la realidad de las personas sin hogar. La disociación entre la realidad de lo que podemos ver en las fotografías y lo que podemos leer en los textos crea un resultado final que parece ficción (realidad+realidad = ficción). Es una doble negación: la de la sociedad que mira hacia otro lado y la de las propias personas inmersas en la situación de desamparo forzadas a sobrevivir en la calle, se esconden, no se muestran, avergonzados de una situación personal no deseada y del “repudio” de quienes no quieren conocer esa realidad”

En “Código Postal” Igor Calvo sigue investigando sobre la ciudad distrófica en la que apenas hay indicios de la presencia humana. “Código Postal” muestra hogares temporales acompañados de textos periodísticos que nos obligan a preguntarnos sobre nuestra percepción de lo real. Un paisaje urbano siempre ambiguo, un juego perverso en el que la disociación fotografía-texto nos lleva a cuestionarnos la realidad. En todo el trabajo de Igor Calvo se advierte esta querencia por incluir dentro del espacio fotográfico elementos contrapuestos: identidad/diferencia en “Escenas del Mundo Flotante”, realidad/irrealidad en “Comic City” espacio formal/espacio percibido en “Colmenas”, documento/ficción en “Código Postal”. CP es la última entrega de la Tetralogía Urbana, Un recorrido “en progreso” por el espacio urbano conformado por: “Escenas del Mundo Flotante” Igor Calvo parte de la premisa de la imposibilidad del conocimiento, presentando nuestra vieja ría bajo un nuevo horizonte perceptivo en el que la identidad surge como un darse efectivo en el seno de lo diferente. “Comic City” el autor recupera elementos del cómic para transfigurar la realidad creando enunciados metafóricos que no hacen más que incidir en el substrato real de esa ciudad irreal. “Colmenas” se detiene en estructuras hiperbólicas que se diseminan, obedientes, en una sucesión de habitáculos in-habitables dispuestos para ser acoplados a sus correspondientes “unidades de vida”. Son fotografías que presentan un espacio visual ampliado que remite a un no-límite. El autor donará íntegramente los beneficios logrados por la venta de las fotografías de “Código Postal” a Cáritas Bizkaia, con el propósito de contribuir económicamente al trabajo que dicha organización lleva diariamente a cabo con todas aquellas personas y colectivos más desfavorecidos, débiles y en riesgo de exclusión social. Pero, además, con el objetivo de visibilizar una realidad especialmente dolorosa y promover una reflexión sobre ella.

POSTCODE IGOR CALVO Between reality and fiction Postcode shows photographs of temporary homes, places deprived of any human presence but with clear and visible traces of the people who inhabit them. We know there is someone there but we can not see him/her. We know the place existed when the photograph was taken but we do not have any certainty it is still there. Register without scenery manipulation, images accompanied with texts that do not describe the photographs nor give us any other information about when, what or where the photographs were taken, texts that apparently are dissociated from the photographs and that move the image away from its “documentary” purpose. Texts extracted from mass media and books, present-day texts that refer to the reality and the immediacy (it is happening right now), but once out of its context and accompanying the photographs (as a caption, note or description) they make us disconnect of that supposed reality and question what they try to tell us exactly. I reflect on the notions of fiction and reality through the (un)real situation of all those people that have made from the streets their homes, the chronic situation of neglect, injustice and inequality our society pretend to avoid. Being the images deprived of human presence, what we find out in those spaces is our own reflection as observers when looking straight at the photograph; that not only “immerse” us into the reality of that temporary home at the street, but make us think about our own perception of the homeless reality. The dissociation between the reality observed in the photographs and what we could read in the texts ultimately makes it look like a fictional work (reality + reality = fiction). It is a double negation: the one of the society that looks the other way and the one of the people immersed in a situation of neglect, forced to survive in the streets, hiding themselves from our sight, ashamed of a non desired personal situation and the “repudiation” of those who do not want to know their reality”

Through “Postcode”, Igor Calvo carries on researching into the dystrophic city, a city in which there is hardly signs of human presence. Postcode shows photographs of temporal homes accompanied with texts taken from journals, magazines and books that compelled us to ask ourselves about our perception of what is real. An always ambiguous urban landscape, a perverse play in which the photograph-text dissociation lead us to put into question our reality. Throughout the work of the photographer Igor Calvo, it can be observed this willing for including opposed elements inside the photographic space: identity/difference in “Scenes of the floating world”, reality/unreality in “ComicCity”, formal space/perceived space, document/fiction in “Postcode”. Postcode is the final work of the Urban Tetralogy, an itinerary “in progress” around the urban space comprised also of: “Scenes of the floating world”: Igor Calvo starts from the premise of the impossibility of knowledge, introducing our old river under a new perceptive horizon in which the identity arises at the very heart of the difference. “Comic City”: the author recovers elements from the world of comics for transforming the reality creating metaphoric statements making nothing but stressing the real substrate of that unreal city. “Hives” dwells in hyperbolic structures that spread themselves, obediently, in a succession of inhabitable receptacles prepared to be fitted to their correspondent “life unities”. Photographs that introduce an amplified visual space that refers to a no-limit. In a decision taken according to his beliefs, the author will give the benefits obtained through the sale of the photographs to Cáritas Bizkaia, with the only purpose to contribute economically to the everyday work of the organization with all those people and collectives more disfavoured, weak and in risk of social exclusion. But, moreover, with the objective of making visible an especially painful reality and promote a real reflection on it.

CON UN ESTILO ESTETICISTA Y UNA CUIDADA TÉCNICA VA CONCATENANDO BELLÍSIMAS IMÁGENES BAJO LAS QUE SUBYACE UNA MIRADA MUY CRÍTICA Y UNA ACTITUD DE DENUNCIA ANTE LA CONVERSIÓN DEL INDIVIDUO EN MERO OBJETO DE PRODUCCIÓN / CONSUMO. CADA UNA DE SUS FOTOGRAFÍAS PROPONE AL ESPECTADOR UN ANÁLISIS DE NUESTRA SOCIEDAD; PRETENDE QUE CADA SUJETO REFLEXIONE SOBRE LA REALIDAD EN LA QUE VIVE Y SEA CONSCIENTE DE SU PODER DE ACTUACIÓN PARA MODIFICARLA.
