I-

I’ll admit it: I’ve been called a luddite. Generally, it’s by my own kids, who typically phrase the barb differently, but it still carries the same weight. And sometimes its by people here at school who like to tease me about my relative lack of technological skills. And I guess they’re right. I still have an iPhone 3. (Dad, that’s pitiful!) I use a big, cumbersome iPod that I got for my birthday in 2008. (My wife recently bought me a shuffle, but I unwittingly jumped into the pool with it, so I’m back to the iPod.) I text and email all the time, but I don’t tweet or Instagram or Snapchat. I don’t even have a Facebook page. (Can you imagine that?!) But that doesn’t mean that I don’t see or appreciate the rapidly-growing tidal wave of social media. Whether we like it or not, it’s dramatically affecting the lives of the students with whom we work every day. It shapes their experiences in powerful ways— some of which, sadly, can be deeply concerning and even destructive. I choose to see social media, though, as an incredible opportunity. It’s simply astounding how much access we now have, and how rapidly we can all communicate with each other. And I have great optimism knowing that these new and exciting possibilities will continue to be in the hands of our capable students and young graduates. We’ve spent much time this year talking about what it means to THRIVE. I don’t believe that one can truly thrive— or flourish— in an environment characterized by old habits and stagnation. To the contrary, innovation and creativity are hallmarks of the social media generation. They are, I’m proud to say, alive and well here at PCDS, pushing us forward on a continual basis, spurring us to grow vigorously— to evolve and, ultimately, to THRIVE. And who knows? You might even find me on Twitter one of these days... Andrew M. Rodin Headmaster

JkOkfo UOUQtts Robert Frost once said, "There are tw o kinds o f teachers: the kind that fill you w ith so much quail shot that you can't move, and the kind that just gives you a little prod behind and you jum p to the skies."Well, this may have been true before you became a teacher. You go above and beyond the expectations and standards of a teacher, and give each of your 100 students much, much more than a slight prod on the back. Not only are you everyone's favorite teacher, but you're also every student's friend. Whether you're teaching Biology, Human Evolution, Cultural Anthropology, or spending tim e w ith your advisor group, you never fail to connect w ith each and every student and make them feel like they have a whole support group in a single individual. You somehow manage to teach over 100 students and w rite countless recommendations, but you never complain, take the easier route, or turn down an opportunity to help a student. The little things you do are what we will remember most, like the class group chats to make sure we understand assignments, and the extra tim e you spend having dinners w ith your advisor group. Your teaching style is one o f a kind, as your classes are fun and informative, intense and lively, a mixture o f discussions and lectures. You teach us to be kind, respectful, and introspective; and you stress the importance of being unique and sharing our opinions andJdiosyncrasies w ith everyone who w ill listen. You help us grow into adults, but more importantly, into individuals and intellectuals. You are passionate about the pursuit of knowledge, and you always have a smile on your face while teaching others.

On behalf of the Class of 2015, I'd to thank you for everything you do for the PCDS community, but especially all you've done for the senior class. You're not thanked or recognized nearly enough for your effort, affection, and selflessness, so we'd like to dedicate this yearbook to honor you. We couldn't have made it through the end of senior year w ithout your guidance, reassur ance, recommendations, and so much ’ more. I know I speak for the entire se nior class when I say we love you, we'll miss you, and we'll always treasure you as our friend and role model. -Shannon Burke and the Class of 2015

In the Lower School we believe that each and every child deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, that each interaction with children is a chance to let them know that they are cared about, and that every child is an important part o f this community. We believe that our curriculum must support the child in ways that make sense to him or her. We must provide learning opportunities that provide deep understandings - that rigor is not quantity but rather the depth o f knowledge that the child is engaged in trying to understand. We believe that children deserve an environment that they can explore ideas in, one in which “wrong” answers are wonderful opportunities to develop understandings and resiliency to try and try again - that inherent in the trying is the education. We believe that community is necessary to education - that children, parents, and teachers all have rights and that this collaborative culture has advantages for all because everyone searches for experiences that are laden with meaning - that real community is hard work but is worth it. We believe in joy - that each child deserves to experience joy when engaging with their friends and in their learning; that each teacher deserves to experience the joy and excitement of teach ing; that all parents deserve to experience the joy of seeing their child’s thinking and profound capabilities. And that children, parents, and teachers deserve to feel the joy of being in a place in which they know that they are valued. I am here to tell you that education happens when all of these expectations come together, and it is truly beautiful. This is our Lower School. Mrs. Ivins Head of Lower School

Middle School Students: I write this in December just before the Winter Break. So far this has been a wonderful year in the PCDS, Middle School. We all loved your produc tion of “A Midsummer Nights Dream in the OC” earlier in December. The Middle School concert was of the usual excellent quality. The 8th grade Catalina trip was an exciting success as always as were the 5th and 6th grade trips, and as will be, I am sure, the 7th grade trip to Boston. With experiences like these, and your every day activities in school, I hope you can begin to realize how much you are learning about yourselves and how much you are learning about your role in the larger world. You are learning through action and doing and you are on the way to discovering your passions and preparing for your futures whatever they may be. As I depart this excellent school after six years, I leave behind a feeling of confidence that you have the tools to dream big and follow these passions as you move ahead in life. Good luck in all that you do! Mr. Dukehart Head of Middle School

In the fall, Ms. Lisa Zima, Mr. Erik Domuingez, and Mrs. Julie Larrea directed and produced an entertaining version of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream taking place in modern day Orange County; A Midsummer Night in the OC by D. Tupper McKnight. The lead roles were played by Sam Roland, Henri Richardson, Chloe Chodorow, Max Montrose, Halle Troadec and Louis Hulbard. The set was constructed and designed by the members of Ms. Liz Olsons Middle School design elective. The play was a hilarious rendition of a timeless classic. M id d le School

As I sat to write this, I pulled out my own yearbook from senior year of high school. Instantly, I traveled back in time to sitting in classrooms w ith my favorite teachers, laughing in the hallways w ith my best friends, and proud of my superior fashion decisions The best part of a yearbook is the snapshots that can transport you to another time. As you go through these pages, remember the wonderful journey you have been on. And as you go through these pages many, many years and adventures from now, I hope you get to travel back into time to your favorite teachers, best friends, and your inner fashionista.

Oune ^Wft/ips Cesar Acosta became a professional body builder in order to motivate the ‘small,’ inspired by highschool friend Nihaal. He spends his spare time writing for a relationship advice column. Carlos Alvarado minored in English Studies and perfected his grammar skills. He used this degree to work his way up the ranks and eventually became editor in chief of the New York Times. With his experience in business, Carlos went on to establish a candy monopoly, selling Skittles and Mike & Ike’s to 3/4 of the world’s nations. He sits on his candy empire from a penthouse in Barcelona, where he owns the soccer team, FC Barcelona. Meryl Ax is a successful makeup artist, splitting her time between Los Angeles, New York, London and Milan. She married an NHL player and drives her 3 kids around in a Range Rover. Meryl styles her family, and they are a more powerful fashion family than Kimye and North West ever were. Will Bassoff received a degree in political science but abandoned his promising future as a politician and started living in Waka Flocka’s trap house and producing his sick beats. Flocka realized his talent and produced Will’s triple platinum mix tape, which featured a hit single about the infinite gender possibilities. Anna Bodney inherits The Stand after her former employer Ron wins the lottery. She lives off a strict gluten-free diet of milkshakes and crispy fries. She also founded many organizations, one of which opposes the creation of organizations opposing things. Steven Bolden failed to start up his own valet company after college. However, he is now a sucessful agent for several NBA players and helps to improve both their style and their game. Anhad Brar hosts his own talk show, “Ask Anhad,” on the E! network. He discusses many serious topics from climate change to pagri and patka fashion trends . Anhad also started his own charity “High Fives for Kids.” His charity has been blamed for the major flu outbreak in Disneyland. Shannon Burke owns Hogwarts Academy, a boarding school in Boston that allows teens passionate about Harry Potter to learn in a setting identical to that of their favorite movie. In her extra time, Shannon is a large supporter and endorser of the Fruit Roll Up company. A close friend stated that Shannon eats around 30 every hour. Caroline Cogliani lives in Bali with her husband Sergio, where they both teach hot yoga. They eat raw, and Caroline devotes her spare time to various animal-rights causes. Her one cheat meal is her closet full of Chick Fil A sauce which she eats plain, with a spoon. She owns an extensive wig collection to hide the damage her hair endured through years of dying it various colors not found in nature. Wesley Curci completed a PhD in commercial fundrasing/ponzi schemes after failing as a presidential speech writer and master of relationships. He then evaded arrest by the SEC & FBI by becoming a leading executive in China’s buregoning almond production industry. Lilia Dashevsky shocked the world by running for Arizona Congress as soon as she was of age. Later, she became the first female leader of China after realizing she was a communist after all. She spends her off-time relaxing in Cape Cod with her fluffy dogs who dress exclusively in Vineyard Vines and husband, owner of Dunkin Donuts. Alexandra Davis invented a highly-efficient coffee machine with her amazing engineering skills. She sold this machine to Starbucks for millions, and now gets her coffee for free. With this new found fortune, she moved her family of a husband and two kids to Abu-Dhabi. Sage Druch retired at the age of 25 to the mountains of Mt. Fujasaki from his job of selling watches and pens out of his pockets. He owns a multi-billion dollar professional Heath Stone team and is now a major donor for the new company Big Afros R Us. Jesse Edwards spent her college years playing soocer, but after graduating decided to focus her time on advocating rights. She then became the spokesperson for an organization that aims to spread peace understanding to different countries. In her spare time, Jesse is a secret hip-hop dancer and was featured in several of Beyonce’s music videos. 170 |Time Warps

Remi Edwards made her fortune expanding the AJ’s Fine Foods franchise internationally. She cruises down the streets of Malibu in a Mini Cooper with her two French Bulldogs in the back. She will maintain this lifestyle with a career in forensic science. In her free time, she goes surfing with her Frenchies on her board, who are wearing coordinating life vests. Bernardo Fonseca, the CEO of Party Airlines, floats between his mansions in Cabo and Cancun. His original wealth was gained through an invention of a utensil used to eat Cheetos, but was then devastated when the company invented a new Cheeto that did not leave cheese dust on your fingers. Reilly Freret worked part-time in college patching up small holes in people’s walls but realized he was simply too gifted to keep living that life. Years later, he sold his Lego Engineering company for $10 million and now owns his own anger-management center, Calm the #*?! Down, where he takes summers off to work the SnackSquad at a local summer camp. Gracie Gilberg is now a full time empolyee at TGen. After her many internships with the organization and countless attempts to remain involved, the owners decided it might be best just to hire her rather than filing a restraining order. She works part time at PCDS as a coach of the lacrosse team where the warm-up consists of a 20-mile run to start and a 40-mile run to finish. Brianda Godoy completed college at her dream school and went on to become an international photographer for the world’s leading publications after her selfies graced the covers of top fashion magazines; never in one place for too long, she makes hundreds and hundreds of friends and manages to see sunsets in over 50 places around the globe. Morgan Gonzales lives off the coast of Croatia with her husband who made his fortune playing a vampire/serial killer with a heart of gold on a mediocre ABC Family drama. As Morgan has not quite gotten over her repulsion to both public and private displays of affection, her husband sleeps in the guest room with their four cats Beemer, Bentley, Bugatti, and Benz while she sleeps with her trophies. Wynston Hamann morphed into a literal troll after his time in prison for continually harassing Carson Krause and now lives under a bridge in China. When he isn’t trolling, Wynston spends his days running marathons, playing cello, and spreading his infectious smile and love. Sophie Hill became a renowned comedy writer after taking over a well-known student travel organization and calling it SOPHisticated Pathways. Decked head-to-toe in feathers and Lulu, Sophie spends her days off travelling around the world with her younger-brother-turned-personal-assistantand-body-guard Nick and best friend Amelia. Dylan Hong took over Apple and created the very first widley-available in home robot, the iRobot, and now never has to leave his multimillion-dollar home. Lina Khan published a book called, “The Art of Sarcasam,” and tours the country with her fluffy cat, whom she is allergic to. She graduated from USC with honors and now lives in New York City with her boyfriend Cody Simpson. She writes for Saturday Night Live and just wrapped six seasons of a hit show on Netflix following her rap duo, “Pakistani & Jew”. Kyle Kinnie becomes the first person in American history to ascend to the Presidency through a military coup. Carson Krause spent 5 years hitchhiking from Chick-Fil-A to Chick-Fil-A after his friends continually ditch him without his knowledge. Carson has now become the visionary of a company that allows people to gain all of their ancestors’ knowledge. Using his own technology, Carson is now an expert on China because his grandfather was born there. Staley Lane walked the runways of New York for a couple of years, but decided to retire and focus on her medical career. With her background in biology and medicine, she discovered a new art form that promotes healing through stress relief. To keep herself sane during hectic times, she cuddles up with her pets to watch a couple hours of the Kardashians. Fallon Leyba is the head of a top secret organization bent on fighting everyday social injustices. The front for the orginization is an indie comics publishing compnay, where Fallon continues to create witty and insightful cartoons. Time Warps | 171

Jorge Manzanares creates a new font using his own grafitti-like handwriting as a template. Lupe Martinez synthesized a new, organic and safe medicine that allowed her to become the only human to not need any sleep. However, during our 20th reunion at PCDS, she somehow managed to fall asleep. Bond McGillivray slept through his own college graduation, so he decided to join the British Secret Service. On the side, he owns a mildly successful gaming trackpad company. Amelia Meyer spends her time organizing charity runs, working on her art, and being a fashion icon. Danny Minard became a photographer and videographer for both National Geographic and Discovery Channel, however, his career suffered a tragically abrupt ending. While trying to photograph an extreamly rare penguin in Antartica, he tripped over a sleeping polar bear and skewered himself on an icicle. Kyle Money became the student body president at ASU Barrett where his leadership skills shone, and then became the star player on their basketball team. He went on to be the headmaster at PCDS, and is to this day encouraging the children to “thrive!” Amelia Montooth joined the Peace Corps, where she met her husband and fufilled her lifelong dream of having 7 kids. She has a self-driving minivan (to prevent her from crashing), and is a successful journalist who writes articles on social injustice. Paulina Moreno starred in a Bollywoodfilm, “Bubble Gurl” a comedic remake of “Bubble Boy,” and now owns her own sari company. Josh Munoz became a successful forensic scientist who became a nationally renowned tennis and soccer player in his spare time. He spends his free time pursuing his love of bus rides by riding buses everywhere he goes around town. Claire Myers gave up on her pursuit of a career in sports psychology and realized her dream of becom ing a Dallas Cowboy’s cheerleader who moonlighted as a Top 40 pop-country crossover star in the style of one Hannah Montana. She goes by her stage name, Sparklez, and speaks only in a British accent. It is rumored that she is in an on-and-off polyandrous relationship with Prince Harry, Dirk Nowitzki, and some lesser-known PCDS ‘12 graduate. Andrew Novoa Andrew Novoa owns one of the most successful goat farms in the world. His hobbies include flying his life-size Mindstorm robot and dressing up as a goat for children’s parties. Kendall Reaves owns her own cold-pressed juice bar in which people must order while in downward dog if they wish to be served. Nihaal Reddy owns his own vest company, called “Vests and Things,” which took off and is available in over 30 countries, including Antarctica where he has designed many vests for penguins. Today, Nihaal works closely with the mens basketball team. In many games, he has been known to run on to the court, grab the ball, and swish another 3 pointer, this always ends with him being escorted off the court but at least he got to relive his glory days! Eva Reynoso is still continuing to make amazing sculptures that add beauty to communities across the world while maintaining her killer sense of style. Morgan Richman starred in the remake of the classic Monty Python skit, “The Argument Clinic,” and critics described her as speaking faster than the speed of light. Later, she was the victim of a radioactive spillage. She woke up from the accident with the power of super strength, and now has a strong -- and quite literally killer -- spike. Bryeson retired to the Philippines where he lives with twelve personal physical therapists. Cassidy Server owns a multi-billion dollar fashion industry dedicated to saving those who are fashionably challenged. Her cat, K.C., has been discovered to be immortal and lives with her to this day. Daniel Shuster offended one too many people with his offbeat sense of humor and annoyed thousands with his SDLC tales and thus has been banned indefinitely from Twitter and Instagram. When he isn’t managing his clothing company Funderwear, Daniel frequents music festivals, couchsurfs, hitch-hikes, and manages several experimental pop-up spiritual communes. Mariel Sokolov, in an attempt to become famous, parachuted into the halftime show of Super bowl 60 while playing “Careless whisper” on her saxophone. After thoroughly enjoying her 15 minutes of fame, and some jail time, she lives in Santa Monica with 15 cats writes novels about “minor existence problems.” Bryce Stockslager owns a pimped-out workshop in rural Ohio, where he is currently working on the first viable Iron Man suit. Sabrina Whitfill married into the royal family of Brunei and has five children named, Augustus, Julius, Octavian, Haydriean, and Caligula. You’ll catch her sporting Roman clothing, and she manages to look fashionable doing it. Ben Whitmore continued to grow throughout his twenties and now towers over the general population at a whopping six feet and eleven inches. Ben is mostly known for holding the world record for earning a PhD with the least amount of credits ever recorded. He still manages to win over the ladies with his charming British accent. Jessica Winssinger competed on the national tennis circuit for a few years before deciding her true calling was to become a competitive eater and professional taste-tester, working for companies such as Chipotle Mexican Grill. She splits her time between her homes in South Korea and the French countryside. Allison Winter turned into a mermaid with permanent tan lines on her back after swimming in the 2020 Olympic games. To the shock of her family and the world, Allison traded in her gold medal for Lululemon store credit. She permanently lost her voice in a freak accident in college and no longer screams when she should be speaking at a normal volume. Rana Zayanderoudi landed herself in a sticky situation after stalking a teenage heartthrob for several weeks after seeing him perform at Coachella, claiming that he was the “perfect ten” who she would never see again. {f&toitke £dite»is When we joined the Yearbook Freshman year, we had no clue we would one day become the Editors in Chief. We could not even imagine how much time we would commit to the Yearbook over four years, but we have truly enjoyed the experience, and if given the option, we would not change a thing. We hope you all enjoy looking at your yearbooks as much as we enjoyed making them. There are bound to be some mistakes, and we ask for your forgivness in advance. We are sorry if there aren’t many pictures of you, or your name is spelled wrong, or you were left out of a picture or off of a roster, but think about it this way -- you could join the yearbook next year and put yourself in as many times as you like! Regardless, we just really hope that in ten or twenty years, you will pull this yearbook out to show your friends and family your embarassing clothes and hairstyles, look back on things like Twitter and Facbeook, remember your friends, and treasure the memories and experiences you had in high school. High school is a time in one’s life unlike any other. It is the time in many of our lives in which we discover the most about ourselves. We hope you use this book to remember how high school, and specifically PCDS, impacted you and what you learned in your time here. Thank you to everyone who helped us create this, even if it was just by listening quietly while we yelled at you about one deadline or another that we all knew was not exactly final. Good luck to Anita next year! We know she’ll do a great job. Best wishes, Amelia and Caroline 246

GTkaafe;Qjeu! Thank you so much to everyone who helped us! We could not have completed this project without the dedication and compassionate support of the students, faculty, staff, and administration. All divisions and departments of the school truly came together, by taking photographs, scheduling pictures, proof-reading text, advising, problem solving, offering technical support, sending personal messages, and contributing in many other ways. Our Yearbook Staff was incredible, as always, spending weekends and long days at school putting the book together. It is truly astounding how much work goes into this book, and its completion would not have been possible without everyone’s contributions. Our experience this year clearly demonstrates the wonderful benefits of having the close-knit community that epitomizes Phoenix Country Day School. In addition, we would like to specifically thank Lauren Strohacker for being our Faculty Advisor. She sacraficed her own free time to help us make this yearbook the best it could be. We would also like to thank Nathan Lewis for helping us with design. It is also important to note that without Kyle Money’s incredible mentoring and help, there would most definitely not be a yearbook this year. He taught us everything we know, and helped us with all the bumps along the way, and we are incredibly grateful for his support. Furthermore, Anita Sheih deserves recognition for the incredible work she put in to helping us this year. She was responsible for making sure every photo you saw in this yearbook was taken on time, uploaded, and submitted to us. We are truly grateful for all of the support we received! #ThankYou

Thanks again to everyone who made their contributions! Amelia and Caroline 1247
