Talley Society
The Honorable Mae Sue Talley Society recognizes donors throughout School history whose cumulative giving to PCDS equals $25,000 and above, directed to any area of the School. Mae Sue Talley was the visionary leader who spearheaded the creation of PCDS as the Valley’s premiere independent school in 1961. A prominent Phoenix philanthropist and Arizona leader who passed away in 2017, Mrs. Talley, along with her husband Franz, served among the School’s original founders. The Talley Society recognizes the School’s most supportive donors throughout our history.

ENDOWMENTS IN ACTION: PROJECT EXCELLENCE ENDOWMENT
Project Excellence is Phoenix Country Day School’s signature outreach program. It has been striving to meet the needs of highly motivated, high-achieving, often first-generation students from surrounding Title 1 schools in the community for over 30 years. The goal of Project Excellence is to connect these gifted and talented students with resources, mentors, and scholarship opportunities to help them realize their full potential.
There are two separate programs within Project Excellence: Saturday Workshops and PCDS Project Excellence Scholars
Each year, PCDS welcomes over 70 students from surrounding Title 1 schools onto our campus to participate in Saturday Workshops. These workshops have featured courses such as Biotechnology, Engineering & Invention, STEAM, Artistic Expressions, and Struggles for Justice in American History. Many of our Saturday Workshop participants go on to become PCDS Project Excellence Scholars who matriculate to the PCDS student body.
For the 2022-23 school year, PCDS has 37 Project Excellence Scholars on campus. These scholars make up a tight-knit community within PCDS and are involved in all types of school activities such as track, softball, robotics, e-sports, Speech & Debate, basketball, swim, soccer, volleyball, musicals, plays, and more.
PCDS is grateful for the generosity of those who support the Project Excellence endowment, and in turn, allow these gifted students to thrive in and out of the classroom.
“ Project Excellence is a community program that I really care about because it is one of the reasons I’m here at PCDS today. I came to PCDS in middle school, and what made me choose PCDS over any other school is that I received multiple scholarships to attend, and no other school has the same educational quality. With a more difficult curriculum than other schools, PCDS has challenged me to grow into a more developed thinker and student.”

PCDS partners with Financial Advisors at Stifel to coordinate gifts of stock, mutual funds, and bonds to the School. Contact Annie Servis at 602.952.2500 or servisa@stifel.com.
When donors gift stock, they get the full fair value of the stock as a tax deduction. PCDS then liquidates the stock with no tax due.

PLANNED GIVING
By making a planned gift, donors can leave a legacy, whether through a tax-advantaged life income gift or through a bequest.
IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER
Individuals who are 70.5 and older can make a tax-free gift (up to $100,000) from their individual retirement account directly to PCDS without paying taxes on the distribution. Many PCDS grandparents and former parents consider this option.
Phoenix Country Day School is a 501(c)(3) charitable orga nization. Individuals who donate to PCDS can deduct up to 100% of their Adjusted Net Income. Corporations that donate to PCDS can deduct up to 25% of their taxable income to charities. Tax ID: 86-0172671
